LG Viewty II hitting Orange UK in June?

We’re so used to seeing the spec list, press photos, leaked hands-on videos with pre-production samples and early reviews of new cellphones that it’s something of a surprise that the LG Viewty II has remained so discrete.  So far it’s just been a few snaps and a partial spec sheet to whet our anticipation; not bad, since according to Electricpig the touchscreen handset itself is set to hit Orange UK in June.

Orange Tabbee 7-inch WiFi internet tablet

Obviously smarting from the touchscreen attention paid to the O2 Joggler, Orange France are planning to bring out the Tabbee.  Unlike the Joggler, which is resolutely desk-bound, the Tabbee is a 7-inch touchscreen WiFi tablet with a battery good for 3hrs "intensive use"; that can include media viewing, internet widgets and more.

Orange UK planning “heavily discounted” MacBooks with mobile broadband?

Orange UK are expected to begin offering heavily-subsidized Apple MacBook laptops with two-year mobile broadband contracts, according to industry site Mobile.  The deal - which would be the first time Apple's notebooks had been offered in this way in the UK - is believed to begin at some point over the summer, thanks to a "volume commitment" from Orange.

iPhone 3G selling in France without a contract

iPhone 3G selling in France without a contract

When Apple was thinking about selling the iPhone 3G in France, they elected to go with Orange as the exclusive carrier, however the problem is France prohibits carriers to extend this lock longer than a six month period.

In addition to this limitation French service provider Bouygues Telecom SA, filed a complaint with the Competition Council about that agreement back in September. The Competition Council reached a decision earlier this month in which any French carrier would be able to offer the iPhone 3G if they so choose.

Bouygues Telecom and SFR still have yet to begin selling the iPhone 3G as FNAC has. From what we hear the iPhone 3G that FNAC is selling is an unlocked version, but we are still unclear. For now you can pick up the 8GB version for of €799 ($1,122USD), in France, or the 16BG version for €899 ($1,262USS).

Orange set to offer HD Voice technology next year

Orange set to offer HD Voice technology next year

Orange, a popular wireless provider in France, announced yesterday that they plan to introduce an HD Voice technology in order to improve user's call experiences and to make for improved voice clarity.

Announced at the La Collection show in Paris, the HD Voice technology would come in the form of software. It will actually be included in some Orange handsets starting in December. Specifically, it will help limit background noise and amp up the device's ability to transmit the sound of the human voice.

By using an Adaptive Multi Rate-WideBand (AMR-WB) codec, Orange will be able to improve voice quality, but the improvements will only be detectable in handsets that have the supporting software. However, HD Voice handsets will still be able to hear those they converse with on non-HD handsets more clearly.

Sony Ericsson W910i phones recalled by Orange

The first wave of W910i’s are all being recalled by Orange. Why? Because the phone function is somehow causing the device to switch off after 10 seconds and its also not answering calls.

Well, that kinda makes a phone, well, not a phone, doesn’t it? Some people who are returning them, are getting exchanges, and then the exchanges are having the same damn problem.

Orange Iqua BHS-603 SUN Bluetooth headset

200 hours of standby time and up to 9 hours of talk time, that’s what you can expect from this headset in the dark. The solar panel on the side, yeah, that should up those numbers a respectable amount in the sun light.

Its 14 grams, which is pretty light, and as far as BT headsets go, its not too terribly unattractive, which is surprising considering adding solar panels generally makes whatever they’ve been added to quite hideous. Its kind of sad we had to wait this long for such an obvious solar power upgrade, I mean sure, on cell phones, not much sense, they are usually in your pocket, but headsets, generally on your head, in direct sunlight.
