Black Edition HTC Desire hits Orange UK late April

Black Edition HTC Desire hits Orange UK late April

Remember the black version of the HTC Desire spotted on Amazon earlier this month?  At the time we wondered if it was just a copy and paste job from the HTC 2010 roadmap that we saw leaked earlier in the year, back when the smartphone was known as the HTC Bravo, but now it turns out the color variant will be getting a commercial release.  Orange UK spokesperson Connor Maples has tweeted that the carrier will have "an exclusive Black Edition" of the Desire from the end of April.

Windows Phone 7 feels like its been a long time coming, and today Steve Ballmer took to the stage complete with some carrier partners to discuss the upcoming smartphone platform. Orange deny Apple iSlate blunder: VP “taken out of context”

It comes as little surprise that Orange - or at least the carrier's UK arm - are leaping all over today's speculation that Orange France exec Stéphane Richard accidentally confirmed the Apple iSlate tablet on French radio.  According to a statement given to paidContent - and as SlashGear predicted - Richard's comments were "taken out of context", and in actual fact the VP was merely stating that yes, indeed, he was aware of the ongoing rumors.

Orange France VP confirms Apple Tablet on-air?

Securing a deal with Apple is the kind of thing any carrier executive would want to crow about, but we're still somewhat dubious about Orange France VP Stéphane Richard's apparent on-air confirmation of the Apple iSlate tablet. Interviewed by French radio station Europe1, Richard is asked about the persistent rumors that Apple will announce a webcam-enabled Tablet in a few days time, something to which he answers yes; he then - in one interpretation - goes on to confirm that Orange customers would benefit from such a device.

Augmented reality has plenty of interesting applications for navigating unknown cities and spotting old friends among crowds, but it's also new enough to make for an entertaining gimmick.  To celebrate Orange Israel offering the iPhone 3GS, the carrier has worked with Ogmento to produce an AR iPhone app that shows a virtual iPhone on-screen whenever you point the iPhone's camera at a modified Orange logo.

Orange Tabbee web-tablet gets video hands-on

While all eyes may be on the JooJoo/CrunchPad (and most editorial concentrating on skewering the home web-tablet segment) it's easy to forget that there are other devices out there, already on sale and offering just about everything the contentious slate promises.  One such example is the Orange Tabbee, announced back in April and on sale in France since June for €249 ($362).  Charbax caught up with the 7-inch tablet at LeWeb and shot some hands-on video.

French iPhone exclusivity broken after regulator decision

French iPhone exclusivity broken after regulator decision

Apple and carrier Orange have announced that their exclusivity agreement in France has ended prematurely, after telecoms regulators decided the deal was "a new rigidity factor in a sector that already suffers from lack of competition."  The news comes after a temporary injunction filed back in December 2008 - and later upheld in a review in February - following complaints from network rivals Bouygues Telecom and SFR.
