Orange France are apparently planning to launch a self-branded iPad rival, as part of a three-pronged tablet attack in time for the holiday shopping season. According to Les Echos, France Telecom are preparing an Android based 3G slate with a €250 ($318) unsubsidized price, which could drop to under €100 ($127) with a data plan commitment. Orange are also supposedly looking to a brand-name rival to the iPad, though the identity of the tablet is unknown.

Orange France planning sub-€250 Android iPad rival for holiday release
Orange confirm BlackBerry Torch 9800 is coming
Having heard yesterday that Vodafone UK would be offering the new BlackBerry Torch 9800, rival Orange UK has now thrown its own hat into the cellular ring. The company has tweeted that it too will be offering the new sliding touchscreen BlackBerry, though as with Vodafone there's no sign of a release date at present.

Orange promise microSIM adapter for iPhone 4 customers [Update: O2 too]
It should come as no great surprise - and you could probably make one yourself using a scrap of plastic - but Orange UK has confirmed that, with each iPhone 4 microSIM they supply, they'll also be throwing in an adapter that converts it to the more commonly used miniSIM size. The adapter basically means that you can take your iPhone 4 microSIM and use it in another, SIM-unlocked handset, handy if you're headed out to somewhere you wouldn't want to risk your new Apple toy.

O2 confirm iPhone 4 pricing
UK carrier O2 has announced official iPhone 4 handset pricing, and there are some surprises in store. Having shown us their tariff details - complete with paltry 500MB inclusive data allowance - this time last week, O2 has now confirmed that the iPhone 4 will in fact be cheaper on an 18-month basic contract than it will on a 24-month agreement: £209 versus £279 for the 16GB model, in fact.

Orange iPhone 4 pricing revealed: 750MB “fair use” data cap
Orange has become the latest UK carrier to reveal its iPhone 4 pricing, ahead of the smartphone's debut on June 24th. Monthly plans start from £30 ($44) on a 24-month agreement or £35 ($52) on an 18-month agreement, with the iPhone 4 16GB itself being £169 ($250) on the former or £229 ($339) on the latter. While Orange still bill their data package as "unlimited", it actually comes with a fair-use policy limiting it to just 750MB per month.

Orange UK next to scrap unlimited data; Vodafone to follow?
UK carrier Orange is the next to follow O2 and AT&T, axing unlimited data packages from their contract range from July 2010. The move follows Orange exec Guillaume van Gaver's comments back in March that "unlimited data packages are not ultimately sustainable. Fair usage policies will be applied, because everyone has to recognise the challenge of carrying video." Meanwhile Vodafone are apparently expected to withdraw their own unlimited data offerings this coming summer.

Motorola FLIPOUT hands-on [Video]
It wasn’t just the Motorola XT720 we grabbed some playtime with this morning; we also caught some hands-on time with the company’s diminutive FLIPOUT, announced last week. In some ways the FLIPOUT is more of a surprise than the XT720 proved to be, mainly because it’s actually very usable despite the palm-sized dimensions. The QWERTY keyboard is reasonable to type on, and the rotating screen section may be the spiritual successor to the Sidekick’s spring-loaded display when it comes to absent-mindedly fiddling with your phone.

Having seen their merger approved, UK carriers Orange and T-Mobile have announced their plans for a "single super-network" under the joint venture name "Everything Everywhere". The two carriers will continue to operate as ostensibly separate businesses, at least when public facing, each with their own stores and promotions; however, later this year subscribers will be able to use each of the company's wireless networks interchangeably and without fees.

Hot on the heels of UK pricing for the iPad WiFi and iPad WiFi + 3G comes carrier Orange with 3G data pricing for the cellular-enabled version of the Apple tablet. Unlike in the US, where carrier AT&T offers a $29.99 unlimited 3G data package (and a $14.99 250MB package), Orange UK have a range of pay-per-use and pre-pay bundles, though no unlimited 3G option.
