Orange to offer new Fujitsu Stylistic S01 phone for older people

Orange to offer new Fujitsu Stylistic S01 phone for older people

With the difficulty my mom and dad have operating basic flip phones, I shudder to think of what they would do if I placed an iPhone or a new Android device in their hands. Many older people out there don't want complicated, high-end smartphones, they want something that's simple to use and just makes phone calls. Orange has just such a device for older people from Fujitsu called the Stylistic S01.

EE paring back store saturation: 78 locations to close

EE paring back store saturation: 78 locations to close

UK 4G network EE will close 78 stores across the UK, the carrier has confirmed, as it pares back unneeded retail floorspace following the harmonized rebranding of T-Mobile and Orange locations. The shuttering will affect more than 10-percent of EE's total retail locations, the FT reports, after the common branding led to some EE stores being just a few paces apart.

UK 4G bidders revealed: Vodafone, O2, Three & EE all want airwaves

Telecoms regulator Ofcom has announced the seven bidders in the UK 4G spectrum auction, with the process itself set to kick off in January 2013 and networks potentially switching on midway through next year. Vodafone, Hutchinson 3G (aka Three), and Telefonica (aka O2), are all among the bidders, as well as Everything Everywhere which is currently the only UK network to offer commercial LTE service through its EE brand.

Orange Libon app pushes HD voice (since other carriers don’t seem to care)

Orange has launched Libon for iOS, pushing HD voice calls via app after apparently getting impatient for all other networks to implement the better quality audio. The free download - which will work on all carriers, and is headed to Android in early Q1 2013 - supports HD calls between Libon users over a 3G or WiFi connection, as well as personalized voicemail and voice-to-text transcription of messages.

Facebook Phone universe expands with Orange “Party Call” service

Facebook Phone universe expands with Orange “Party Call” service

It's time once again, and again, and again, to think about a Facebook-centric phone with a deal that's been inked this week at Orange called "Party Call." This "social calling" service will work with Facebook specifically and will be working with both mobile and desktop versions of the social network. The big break in this plan as far as a Facebook phone goes is the fact that it's not Facebook that's leading this initiative, it's Orange using Facebook's open API as any other developer would, working with Orange's IP-based calling and messaging app Libon (Life is Better On).

Nokia LTE Everything Everywhere Lumia 920 deal tipped; Apologizes again for PureView goof

Nokia is reportedly planning an exclusive 4G deal with UK carrier Everything Everywhere for the Lumia 920,  a potential distraction from its second mea culpa over the faked camera sample goof. The UK exclusive would see Everything Everywhere - including T-Mobile UK and Orange - snap up the Windows Phone 8 device for a November launch, the Financial Times' sources say, echoing Nokia's sole-carrier deal with AT&T in the US on previous handsets. However, the new Lumia is still being overshadowed by Nokia's faking of the initial photography samples, something the company now says will be handled with an internal inquiry.

Everything Everywhere reveals 4G LTE event on iPhone 5 Eve

UK carrier combo Everything Everywhere has announced a 4G launch event on September 11, with LTE rollout plans expected and, perhaps tellingly, all the day before Apple is tipped to reveal the LTE-capable iPhone 5. The London event will see the Orange and T-Mobile team-up discuss "the latest innovation in network technology" which UK regulators gave permission for an early launch back in August.
