2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe revealed with Onstar 4G hotspot

Cadillac has unveiled the 2015 ATS Coupe, a compact luxury two-door based on the ATS sedan, and one of the first of the marque's cars to get "Connected by OnStar" 4G LTE integrated. Hitting showrooms this summer, the ATS Coupe will offer a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and two engines, for what Cadillac claims is a "distinctive American alternative" to the BMW 428i and other rivals.

OnStar RelayRides brings auto sharing nationwide

General Motors customers who have OnStar-enabled vehicles have been revealed this week to be getting a car rental service if they do so choose - their own cars being the subject of this new program. Each OnStar subscriber will soon have the ability to rent out their car when they're not using it in order to off-set the cost of owning a vehicle in the big city. This program is called RelayRides, and works with drivers' iPhone app as well as through the RelayRides marketplace through simple key exchanges.

OnStar Family Link service launched

General Motors has rolled out a new addition to its already-successful OnStar platform. Called Family Link, the new service lets users track other family members who have access to your car, allowing you to sign up for text messages and e-mail alerts when the vehicle arrives at a specific location or to let you know where it is at a specific time. Yeah, it's a double-edged sword, but it's a feature that customers want.

OnStar shows off in-car video chat and video streaming

Somewhere in Washington, a lobbyist wanting to remove all forms of distraction from our vehicles is having a seizure right now. OnStar is showing off a new system that is designed to stream video chats and calls to your vehicle using 4G LTE technology. If using a hands free calling system is too much of a distraction in the eyes of the NTSB having a video call going in the car is going to cause some strokes at safety HQ.

OnStar backtracks on GPS tracking

OnStar has bowed to public and governmental pressure, and reversed its controversial decision to track ex-subscribers using its in-car GPS navigation and support system. Having announced - via a change in its terms & conditions - that from December it would be tracking the location of those with OnStar systems installed, even if the individuals were non-subscribers, OnStar has now backtracked and said it would now make any data collection opt-in rather than opt-out.
