Olympus announced the development of a new Four-Thirds complaint Digital SLR back at Photokina, with an estimate launch date in the first quarter of 2009. The announcement has come early; folks at Cnet have jumped the gun with an officially launch of the New EVOLT but the article was later pulled. So there you have it, the unnamed prototype at Germany has an official title, a 12.3 megapixel Olympus midrange E-30 EVOLT to bridge the gap between the E-3 and E-520. Read The Full Story

Small taste of Olympus new E-system, Four Thirds-compliant Digital SLR camera

Schedule to launch at Photokina is Olympus’s concept Digital SLR featuring the company’s joint ventured Four Thirds System with Panasonic. Few details are available at the moment, but the new body will sport a new light weight and designed E-system with mid-level features set - 11-point autofocus system, 5 stops in-body image stabilization, rotated LCD monitor, high-speed contrast detection autofocus system, face detection function, Shadow Adjustment Technology and supports highest shutter speed up to 1/8000s. The un-named Digital SLR will be Official introduced in the first quarter of 2009.

Olympus µ 1040 hands-on at IFA 2008

Olympus brought their latest compact digital camera, the µ 1040, to IFA this year, complete with a full metal body and some questionable color options.  Seen here in "Melon Yellow" (with "Starry Silver", "Midnight Black" and "Magma Red" your less blaring choices), the 10-megapixel camera squeezes a 3x (38-114mm equivalent) zoom into a body just 16.5mm at its thinnest. Olympus SP-565 UZ has 20x zoom

Olympus appears to be updating their 18x SP-560 UZ by introducing the SP-565 UZ, which possesses a f2.8-4.5 26-520mm-equivalent lens that was formally a part of the SP-570 UZ--their top-of-the-line product. And at the moment, that appears to be the only difference between the old and new models. The only real benefit of the SP-565 UZ is the lack of the zoom ring. However, it also lacks a hot shoe. Olympus E-520 10MP dSLR with image stabilization

Olympus have announced their latest digital SLR camera, the E-520. An update to the existing E-510, the new E-520 slots in as the big brother to the popular E-420. With the same 10-megapixel Live MOS 17.3 x 13.0mm sensor capable of ISO 100 to 1600 as the E-420, the new dSLR adds sensor-shift stabilization, an increased continuous-shooting buffer (up from 6 RAW shots to 8) and new grip. Olympus updated last year’s Evolt-E410 with E-420 to carry on the world’s smallest and lightest Autofocus DSLR titles. The new Evolt now featured a larger LCD, better handgrip, burst mode, auto white balance, dust reduction, wireless flash capability, and added face detection, autofocus on live view function and last, but not least, a pancake size digital Zuiko lens ED 25mm F2.8. Olympus announces New Type M+ xD-Picture Cards

Olympus updated their co-invention with Fujifilm, the xD-Picture Card, with a faster M+ series in preparing for PMA 2008. The new Type M + xD-Picture Card offered 1.5 times fastest than previous version of Type M series when used with Olympus digital cameras. That’s about 3.75-6 mb/s in write and read speed. The Multi Level Cell architecture in M type xD media format is capable to produce up to 8GB of storage space but the new series is still stuck in a rather disappointing capacities of 1GB and 2GB model. Olympus has not disclosed pricing but both will be available in April. [via dpreview]

Olympus SP-560UZ is now supported with Wireless Flash

The $350 8mp point and shoot Olympus’ ultra-zoom series SP-560UZ gets a firmware update with the support of external FL-50R external flash and FL-36R wireless flash. Remote control is now possible using in camera’s ‘RC’ flash mode up to 32 feet away in 60-degree arc, or up to 16 feet away in a 100-degree arc with firmware 3.1. That’s quite a commitment from Olympus, show of continuer support for a point-shot digital camera. Olympus SP-560UZ gains wireless flash through firmware 3.1 [via dpreview]
