Star Wars BB-8 toy a reality: Sphero confirms Disney team-up

This morning amid rumors and a fan-made creation, Sphero have revealed that they're actually making a real BB-8 toy in the near future. Not only were they already working on a toy like what you've seen roll onstage last week, they've worked with Disney to make BB-8 a reality. Today Sphero "confirmed their direct involvement in the latest Star Wars franchise; specifically their technology contributions towards BB-8, the new droid featured at Star Wars Celebration last week." The real deal hasn't been revealed yet - but it will be soon.

Summer is closing in quickly, and many are preparing to get their motorcycle out of storage for the warm weeks ahead. If you're one of them but you're looking to hit the road with something a little more noticeable, Sotheby's is about to auction a bike that fits the bill: it's a light cycle from TRON: Legacy, and it is fully functional, meaning you could ride it to work if you want, assuming you can get a tag for it.

MTS briefcase doubles as weapon-proof personal shield

MTS briefcase doubles as weapon-proof personal shield

You never know when you're going to need to unleash your inner Rambo, and having the right equipment on hand is probably essential to make sure it ends well. You could carry a metal shield around everywhere and claim it's a hipster umbrella, but if that's not quite subtle enough for your needs, there's the MTS briefcase, which looks like a good alternative. It's a briefcase during the 9 to 5, but when the time comes it transforms into a personal (nearly) weapons-proof shield.

Robotic jellyfish: a modern twist for your fish tank

Robotic jellyfish: a modern twist for your fish tank

Fish tanks are pleasant to have around, but they're a decent amount of work, and no matter how much effort you put into it, those little fish are going to go belly up at some point. Fortunately, we live in an age where there's an alternative -- in this case, a robotic alternative. It's a robot jellyfish from Hexbug, and it looks surprisingly like a real jellyfish (only, you know, with mechanical parts and unnatural colors). This 'pet' runs on batteries and swims just like the real thing.

Google’s View-Master: here’s how it works

Google’s View-Master: here’s how it works

Believe it or not, you won't actually need a View-Master to view the content Google is presenting this week. The View-Master device is just a box with a magnetic switch - just like Google Cardboard. To "view" a View-Master reel - like the "reels" you remember from the original View-Master, you'll need only your smartphone. To view these reels correctly, you'll need a Google Cardboard headset - and that doesn't need to be manufactured by Mattel. The View-Master headset just makes everything easier to understand visually.

Behold, Furbacca: the Furby Chewbacca

Behold, Furbacca: the Furby Chewbacca

The very first licensed Furby toy in the history of Hasbro's Furby lineup is, appropriately, from Star Wars. Furbacca, he's called, and he's part of Hasbro's return to the market with the Furby brand. Chewbacca's visage might be slightly less recognizable than your average licensed Star Wars collectible or toy - coming with the standard yellow beak of the Furby rather than his own furry set of chompers. Is this a one-off, or is this the start of something great for Hasbro's strange, speaking electronic friend collection?
