Titan supercomputer goes live with potent CPU/GPU tag team

The Titan supercomputer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been upgraded, tackling complex climate change calculations with 20 petaflops worth of new processors. Under the (considerable) hood its NVIDIA's "Kepler" GPUs and AMD Opetron 6274 processors doing the heavy lifting, though NVIDIA can't resist pointing out that its graphics chips are in fact carrying 90-percent of the overall load. The GPUs, more commonly found powering gaming rigs, help make Titan "the world's fastest supercomputer for open scientific research." Read The Full Story

Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro pricing tipped at $1699

The folks at Apple have been tipped to be bringing on the 13-inch version of their lovely Retina-quality display-toting MacBook Pro soon, and with a price tag that jumps $500 over the non-Retina version of the device. The 2,560 x 1,600 pixel display on this device was reported as having started production earlier this year - in August, to be precise - and the announcement of the notebook will quite likely be appearing at the Apple event coming up on the 23rd (next week.) This notebook will almost certainly have the same specification upgrades that the Retina MacBook Pro had in its original iteration as well. Read The Full Story

NVIDIA sings Tegra 3 praises for HTC One X+ with LTE

The folks at NVIDIA have made it clear that their biggest effort yet in the smartphone space will indeed by the HTC One X+, complete with a monster Tegra 3 quad-core processor and LTE capabilities with AT&T. This device will be the first 4G LTE-capable device working with the Tegra 3, and this version of the Tegra 3 comes in at 1.7GHz per each of its four main cores. Of course there’s always that hidden fifth core – the ninja core, as some call it – made to handle low power-needs tasks and keep your battery life surprisingly long.

HTC One X+ official: We go hands-on!

It’s six months since HTC launched the One X, one of its best smartphones in years, and with the HTC One X+ the company hopes it can polish its flagship back to the top of the list.
