Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Beta and AIR 2 released

Adobe have pushed their Flash Player 10.1 Beta out of the door, together with Adobe AIR 2, with the Windows version of the new Flash runtime supporting H.264 hardware acceleration.  The Mac and Linux 10.1 prereleases are yet to support that, and so far there's no sign of a smartphone release as Adobe promised back in October; Adobe have confirmed, though, that the webOS beta for the Palm Pre and Pixi will appear sometime this year.

NVIDIA Ion LE DirectX 10 hack suggests purposefully crippled features

NVIDIA Ion LE DirectX 10 hack suggests purposefully crippled features

NVIDIA's Ion LE promises to deliver the same 1080p HD playback as its regular Ion sibling, but at a cheaper price; to do that, it drops DirectX 10 support in favor of solely accommodating DX9.  It turns out that the limitation is, in fact, an arbitrary one and that the Ion LE seems to have been artificially crippled by NVIDIA themselves; MyHPMini forum member runawayprisoner found that by slightly modifying HP's own Ion drivers he could get them to install for the Ion LE.

ASUS Eee Box EB1012 and EB1501 Ion-toting nettops get video hands-on

ASUS Eee Box EB1012 and EB1501 Ion-toting nettops get video hands-on

ASUS' latest NVIDIA Ion based nettops have been well and truly pawed over by NetbookNews.de, and considering that the Eee Box EB1012 at least seems destined for the US market it's only right that we should take an interest.  The EB1012 - and the ASUS Eee Box EB1501 - uses Intel's dual-core Atom 330 1.6GHz processor, paired with the Ion 1080p-capable graphics chipset, with the key difference being that the EB1501 finds room to squeeze in an optical drive.

Acer Aspire Revo R3610-U9012 nettop gets dual-core Atom update

Acer's Aspire Revo nettop has just received a welcome shot in the arm, courtesy of a dual-core Atom 330 processor and an extra gig of RAM.  The Aspire Revo R3610-U9012 kicks out its predecessor's Atom 230 chip in favor of the quicker alternative, and pairs it with 2GB of RAM, Windows 7 and NVIDIA Ion graphics.  That should hopefully make the system a little better at coping with non-1080p video tasks, something the first model had issues with.

ASUS EeeTop PC ET2002 Review

ASUS EeeTop PC ET2002 Review

Back when we reviewed the ASUS Eee Top ET1602 late last year, we suggested it could be the epitome of a niche product: netbook hardware squeezed into an unusual desktop case. Now all-in-ones are more common, and so ASUS have returned with an updated design, bigger screen and more media-centric intentions. The ASUS Eee Top ET2002-B024C sticks with Intel's Atom CPU range but now pairs it with NVIDIA's Ion graphics chipset for potentially 1080p High-Definition performance. Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

NES HTPC mod with NVIDIA Ion graphics [Video]

NES HTPC mod with NVIDIA Ion graphics [Video]

NES console mods are cool, HTPCs are pretty cool, and nettops with NVIDIA Ion graphics are darned cool too, so when you put all three elements together you've got a recipe for something with a whole lot of cool potential.  Modder drumboog has been video documenting his work transforming a NES into an Atom 330 based Blu-ray HTPC with GeForce 9400M graphics, and while it's not quite complete yet, it's certainly 99-percent awesome.
