AT&T MiFi Liberate shares 10hrs of LTE with touchscreen simplicity

AT&T has revealed its latest mobile hotspot, the MiFi Liberate, the first to include a color touchscreen. Running on AT&T's LTE network, the Novatel Wireless-made gadget has a 2.8-inch multitouch display and can share its 4G data connection with up to ten WiFi-connected devices, while the battery is said to last for up to 11 hours of active use. Novatel patent infringement lawsuit against ZTE and FWC still stands [UPDATED]

This week the folks at Novatel Wireless have been allowed to continue a lawsuit against competitors ZTE Corp, ZTE USA, and Franklin Wireless Corp for patent infringement on key architecture and functionality of mobile hotspots. This case has been going on for several months and started more than a year ago, and today's ruling has both of the defendants' requests to dismiss the case shot down by the Judge presiding over the case. This ends up being a sort of preliminary plus for Novatel who could very well have lost quite a bit of money in legal fees if the case had been found void at this point. Read The Full Story

Verizon 4G LTE Jetpack hotspot launching April 12

Verizon announced today that it will be launching a new 4G LTE mobile hotspot on April 12. The device is called the Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4620L and will be available through Verizon's website and stores as well as through Best Buy for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year service agreement. Novatel Wireless Adds DLNA to the MiFi 2372

We reviewed the AT&T MiFi 2372 back in January, but since then Novatel, the devices manufacturer, has recently updated the device’s software. DLNA streaming media support has been added to the MiFi 2372. The MiFi 2372 already functioned well as a mobile 3G or 4G hotspot, and sharing the microSDHC card helped set it apart from the competition. Adding DLNA support just sweetened the package. Novatel Mobile Hotspot patent opens door to MiFi legal firestorm

Novatel Wireless has clinched a mobile hotspot patent which could usher in the next round of legal battles between it and MiFi-making rivals. The patent, "Systems and methods for automatic connection with a wireless network," details the way in which a mobile hotspot automatically hooks up to a cellular data connection and pre-associated WiFi clients, bridging one to the other. Novatel Expedite E362 LTE modem gets Verizon 4G approval: Next stop XOOM?

Novatel Wireless has become the first modem manufacturer to get its embedded LTE module certified by Verizon Wireless for use on the carrier's growing 4G LTE network, with the Expedite E362 also offering backward compatibility to 2G/3G GSM and CDMA networks. Interestingly, as well as working with various flavors of Windows, the miniPCI modem also supports Android (from Froyo to Honeycomb), meaning this could well end up being the LTE card that slots into Motorola's XOOM 4G.
