It’s taken AT&T long enough to push a MiFi mobile hotspot out of the door, but finally the AT&T Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 is available. As with the original MiFi units, the premise is straightforward: take one 3G connection and share it between a number of WiFi devices. That's right, the Novatel Wireless 4G MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot has won not only a Best in Show Award from Notebooks.com in the notebook accessories category, it's also been recently awarded both the World Communication and Mobile Star awards. These additional awards are the 2010 World Communication Award (WCA) for Best Mobile Device Strategy and the Mobile Village Mobile Star Award for Best Laptop or Tablet Accessory. T-Mobile USA is readying its first mobile hotspot, and the debut device will apparently support the high-speed HSPA+ 4G service offered by the network. One of two MiFi-style devices for the first half of 2011, the first model - codenamed "Lil Wayne" - is expected to arrive in February 2011 according to TmoNews' sources and support up to 21Mbps downloads.

MiFi manufacturer Novatel Wireless has filed a patent lawsuit against ZTE and Franklin Wireless, alleging that the rival firms have infringed five patents "related to key architecture and functionality" of the mobile hotspots. According to Peter Laparulo, the company's chairman and CEO, "Novatel Wireless invented the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot" and "competitors need to rely on their own inventions rather than infringe on ours."

HSPA+ is all well and good, but Bell Mobility and Novatel Wireless are more interested in what speeds you can manage if you pair a couple of cells together. Together they've announced the Ovation MC547 USB modem for Bell Mobility's freshly unveiled Dual-Cell HSPA+ (DC HSPA+) network, which will be theoretically capable of up to 42 Mbps downloads and 11 Mbps uploads.

AT&T has just broken some ground in the Novatel Wireless MiFi market, and have officially unveiled their brand new MiFi 2372 mobile hotspot device. The AT&T branded versions isn't just a rehashed version you'd find on other networks, as the GSM-based MiFi adds a few extra features in there to sweeten the deal.

The Novatel Wireless MiFi 3352 we spotted undergoing GCF testing last week has been made official, with the 3G mobile hotspot launching on Orange UK. Full specifications for the MiFi 3352 are unknown - the carrier tells us battery life is "generally about 5 hours" - but according to the press release it has the same on-board app support as the MiFi 2352, together with some "customisable widgets."

Novatel Wireless' next-gen MiFi mobile hotspots have been caught passing through GCF certification. The MiFi 3352 and MiFi 3372 each support quadband GSM/EDGE and the 1900/2100 UMTS/HSDPA bands, with the 3352 throwing in 900MHz UMTS/HSDPA support and the 3372 having 850MHz UMTS/HSDPA support.

Novatel Wireless has announced the launch of a new USB modem that is claimed to be the smallest dual carrier HSPA+ USB device on the market. Novatel demonstrated the device in Spain recently and it was able to achieve download speeds of 40.5Mbps. The modem is the most compact and portable unit of its type on the market right now.
