Notion Ink Adam Could Launch in Multitude of Colors

As potential customers wait all over the world for the official launch of Notion Ink's Adam tablet, featuring Google's Android mobile Operating System, yet showcasing plenty of proprietary customizations to the User Interface, and even applications, getting details on the upcoming tablet device are rare, and that's why even hearing about color options is something to get excited about. Rohan Shravan, of Notion Ink, has been busy updating the official blog, and he's been keeping those in interest updated to the tablet's presence in the design stage. Pixel Qi 7-inch displays due H1 2011

Pixel Qi has announced a timescale for its new 7-inch 3qi panel, intended to take on E Ink in the tablet and ereader market.  The display - a smaller version of the existing 10-inch model that will launch in the Notion Ink Adam and Innoversal Lattice - is expected to go into mass production sometime in the first half of 2011. When it comes to epic words, "Genesis" might be one of the bigger ones. Perhaps that's why Notion Ink have chosen that word to name their Software Developer Kit (SDK) that. Could be some other reason, but we like the whole "epic" idea. But, with the announcement of a price, especially in the face of all the set-backs, it's good to see Notion Ink moving forward. Lessons for Android Tablet Vendors

A few weeks back, Apple reported that it have sold more than two million iPads in less than two months. I think we can safely say the market is now validated and there’s room for a device that falls between the phone and the PC in the consumer ecosystem. It also means that competitors are not going to cede this market to Apple and the space is going to heat up big time over the next few months. Many of these devices will run Android, among the first out of the gate will be a 5-inch device from Dell called the Streak. The Streak will be offered by carriers in some places and will include telephony in addition to content consumption and creation features. It comes to the US next month as an unlocked device selling for $500 putting it directly in competition with the iPad. (Right off the bat that puts the Streak at a disadvantage in the US. Just ask Nokia how easy it is to sell unlocked $500 devices here.)

Notion Ink clinch final investment; new hardware being considered

Having been the subject of speculation over potential launch delays over the weekend, we caught up with Notion Ink founder Rohan Shravan today to find out exactly where the Adam tablet project is up to.  Turns out, Rohan's team are celebrating today as they've just clinched their final round of investment; they can't tell us the identity of the investors themselves, but it sets them up for potentially producing around 100,000 Adam units per month.  Meanwhile there are whispers about new hardware options; more on that after the cut. Notion Ink: Adam won’t launch until November [Update: Not (quite) true]

Notion Ink's much-anticipated Adam tablet is unlikely to see a commercial launch until November, with delays currently being blamed on investor preferences. According to an unnamed would-be customer who contacted the company via email, Notion Ink CEO Rohan Shravan confirmed that while investors stumped up the cash for the project "they also brought the step by step procedures and experience on how we should launch." "I am sad to say that I have to fight every day with them to launch by July end," Shravan continues, "but they want us to hit markets only near Thanksgiving." Has the iPad killed tablet innovation?

How foolish I’ve been. Five months ago I wrote that tablets had come of age, and even sifted my way through the line-up cherry picking what must-have features would make for the perfect device. A month later, in the afterglow – or should that be aftermath? – of the iPad announcement, I marvelled that, while Apple’s slate wouldn’t necessarily satisfy every user, there was nonetheless plenty of choice on the horizon for those given a taste for tableteering. Our analyst contributors wisely told me not to count my touchscreen chickens before they’d hatched onto the market, but I wouldn’t listen. I thought the iPad’s arrival would rejuvenate the tablet segment, but all it seems to have done is killed off any attempt at innovation.
