Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 hands-on and first impressions

Windows 8 officially launched last week, which means that a ton of new computers, laptops, and tablets are either on shelves now or coming up soon. By far one of the most interesting new Windows 8 machines is the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13, a new convertible that aims to show off Windows 8 in all of its touch-based glory. The major selling point of the Yoga 13 is its 360-degree hinge, which allows you to use the laptop in a number of different ways. It’s certainly cool, if not a little strange at first.

Samsung Series 3 Chromebook gets Ubuntu hack via Google itself

It would appear that the folks at Google - or at least one of their ranks - wants to prove the versatility of the hardware behind the newest Chromebook on the market with a port of Ubuntu as an operating system. We've reviewed the Samsung Series 3 Chromebook in full and can say with some confidence that it'd be amazing to have more options than just Chrome as an OS, especially given the undeniably low price point of the unit at $249 USD. Microsoft: Over 1,000 new PCs now Windows 8 Certified

Microsoft's new OS is here, and there shouldn't be a shortage of PCs to experience it on. The company is launching Windows 8 officially today, and according to Windows President Steven Sinofsky, there are over 1,000 new PCs that are certified to use the new platform. Teardown time for Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina

Apple tried to dissuade the teardown merchants from ripping apart the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display by showing exactly what was folded inside during its Tuesday keynote, but to no avail. The new pixel-packed portable has shown up on the cruel teardown bench of iFixit, only to be dismantled to its slimline parts. Overall, the news for those (few) wanting to do DIY maintenance is not good: the notebook scores just 2 out of 10 for repairability. Read The Full Story

Dell opens Windows 8 device floodgates with pricing galore

This week Dell has begun the final announcements of their Windows 8 devices in full, with no less than 10 machines ready for action this Fall. These devices aren't all computers, of course, with a wireless touchpad and a monitor in there as well, but they're all aiming in the same direction nonetheless. Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro pricing tipped at $1699

The folks at Apple have been tipped to be bringing on the 13-inch version of their lovely Retina-quality display-toting MacBook Pro soon, and with a price tag that jumps $500 over the non-Retina version of the device. The 2,560 x 1,600 pixel display on this device was reported as having started production earlier this year - in August, to be precise - and the announcement of the notebook will quite likely be appearing at the Apple event coming up on the 23rd (next week.) Fujitsu gets touchy-feely with Windows 8 tablets

Fujitsu is talking tablets again, and specifically how Windows 8 plays nicely with its touchscreen line-up that now includes the Stylistic Q572. The 10.1-inch Windows 8/Windows 8 Pro slate joins the Stylistic Q702 and Lifebook T902 first announced earlier this year, with an AMD dualcore Z-60 APU processor and 4GB of memory, along with Radeon HD 6250 graphics. Windows 8 HP PCs pop up at Best Buy stores

We've heard a lot about Windows 8 today - Netflix pushed a Windows 8 update earlier today, we learned a little more about the Windows 8 marketing campaign, and - most importantly - the new OS officially went up for pre-order. With that mind, Best Buy has wasted no time putting Windows 8 PCs on display in some of its stores. WinSource reports that at least one Best Buy store is showing off a number of HP Windows 8 notebooks, ultrabooks, and all-in-one PCs to get customers excited about the release of the latest Windows installment. Dell hits Windows 8 PC pre-order market with a bang

It would appear that Dell wants to get in on the party early with three Windows 8 computers it's putting up for pre-order here this morning for a release date "soon after Windows 8 is officially available on October 26." With the XPS 12 convertible laptop, the XPS One 27 All-in-one, and the Inspiron One 23 All-in-one ready for action, you'll not be left wanting for the Windows 8 touch-capable environment in all its glory. This release will be strictly pre-order inside the United States on Friday, the 12th of October (today), with releases of the actual physical devices aimed nearer the end of this month. Sony unveils touch enabled VAIOs, Tap 20 and Duo 11 available this month

Sony has introduced its first tabletop PC in the US market, the VAIO Tap 20, a massive 20-inch tablet computer, as well as the smaller VAIO Duo 11 "hybrid slider" PC, which we reviewed back in August. In addition to the Tap 20 and the Duo 11, Sony has also released touch-enabled ultrabooks, including a refresh of the T13 and the E series 14P models. This line of touch-enabled PCs runs Windows 8.
