Lenovo planning a dual-boot ThinkPad X1 Hybrid

Lenovo is planning to release a new version of its 13-inch ThinkPad X1 notebook that will be able to dual-boot Windows 7 or a special instant-on operating system, which could be Android, Splashtop, or some other operating system entirely. Plans for the new notebook, which will be called the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid, were revealed from a leaked PDF slideshow that was intended for only Lenovo's channel partners. Read The Full Story

Toshiba Portege Z830 Ultrabook pricing revealed

It was all the way back at the start of this September that we got our first look at Toshiba's entry into the Ultrabook world with the X830 series, and today is the first that pricing has been revealed in the UK. Pricing over the ocean from where I'm sitting is a bit indicator on what the device will cost here in the USA as well, so let's have a look: anywhere from £899.99 for the most basic to £1099.99 for the most powerful of models. Motorola Lapdock 100 Review

Motorola has since the first ATRIX device been pushing a mobile environment it calls Webtop, and here in one of two of its newest Webtop-based devices, the Lapdock 100, working in this world is a strangely enticing option. One of the set of tests I’m putting this Lapdock through is actually creating this post using the Lapdock itself NEARLY exclusively. I’ve not quite been able to bring myself to use it for any sort of image processing yet, but everything inside typing, highlighting, right-clicking, and the basics of blogging seem to be working just fine thus far. How’s this device hooked up with a Motorola smartphone work out for the rest of an everyday set of activities? We shall see!

Apple’s official MacBook Pro refresh may have taken place early last week, but the company is reportedly readying a more significant update to the notebook that will borrow design and spec directions for the MacBook Air. Both TUAW and Mac Rumors have been tipped on incoming 15-inch and 17-inch notebooks believed to be Apple’s oft-discussed significant MacBook Pro overhaul, with integrated SSD memory and no optical drives along with sleeker chassis.

Dell has outed its latest notebook, the Dell XPS 14z, a 14-inch notebook that manages to squeeze its 1366 x 768 display into space that would normally only accommodate a 13-inch panel. Set to go on sale in North America on November, and follow on in the UK come November 15, the XPS 14z has a choice of Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 processors, NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M 1GB graphics (with Optimus switching), up to 8GB of DDR3 memory (4GB standard) and a slot-loading DVD burner. Apple MacBook Pro refreshed

Apple has quietly upgraded its MacBook Pro range, with a speed, storage and graphics boost that sees the entry-level $1,199 13-inch MBP running at 2.4GHz and packing a 500GB hard-drive as standard. The refresh – which had been initially tipped for early November - sees new Intel Sandy Bridge chips added to the MacBook Pro line-up, though memory and many other specs stay the same.

AMD invests in BlueStacks for Android apps on Fusion slates

AMD has joined a $5.6m investment round in BlueStacks, the software specialist that enables Android apps to run on x86-based Windows computers. The investment, made with Citrix, will see AMD leverage BlueStacks virtualization with its tablet and notebook/netbook processors; BlueStacks intends to use the extra cash to accelerate development, with a beta and Pro version - capable of running paid Android apps - both expected by the end of 2011.
