Borders Doesn’t Drop Price of Kobo eReader, Offers $20 Gift Card Instead

Considering all the hub-bub that the Amazon Kindle, and Barnes and Noble nook (both versions) received yesterday, we were shocked that some of the other eReaders out there didn't follow suit. Apparently it took a day for the news to hit the competition, because today sees the announcement from Borders that, for the same price as the "nook Lite," you can pick up the Kobo variation, plus a little gift.

Barnes & Noble PubIt! self-publishing ebook service due Summer 2010

Barnes & Noble have announced PubIt!, a way for independent publishers and authors to create their own ebook content for the B&N ebook store, and the company's response to the Kindle Digital Text platform.  Full royalty details for B&N PubIt! are yet to be confirmed, but ebooks produced via the system will be DRM encrypted and available not only on the nook but the retailer's PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone and BlackBerry clients.

There's no doubt that, out of any company on the planet, that when Google gets involved with something, they go big. Even things like Google Buzz, which may not seem all that big now, we can be sure that Google is trying to figure out a way to make it bigger. Now, with Google Editions, it seems that just a simple announcement last week wasn't good enough. B&N nook v1.3 released: browser, games & Read In Store

Barnes & Noble have announced a new firmware version for their dual-screen nook ebook reader.  nook firmware v1.3 adds a new (beta) web browser, which uses the E Ink display for content and the touchscreen color LCD for navigation, together with faster page-turns, speedier ebook opening and some new games.  Meanwhile the Read In Store feature - which allows nook owners to preview entire ebooks while connected to B&N store WiFi - has now been activated.

Barnes & Noble Launches New nook Advertising Campaign

The Apple iPad is apparently a pretty good eReader. And, it has a pretty impressive (if still ultimately lacking) book store under its belt, so why wouldn't the two other mainstays in the eReader department be changing things up? We already heard that the Amazon Kindle is heading to Target, so now it's about time for Barnes & Noble to step things up. And, if we have to wait for that nook 2, we can deal with some new advertising, if we have to.
