Barnes & Noble NOOK for Android released

Barnes & Noble has pushed out their promised NOOK app for Android, synchronizing ebook content across from the company's standalone ereader together with their existing software readers, together with allowing access to the B&N eBookstore.  NOOK for Android - a free download from the Android Market or available at www.bn.com/nookforandroid also automatically takes you to the page you last read (though not if you're using the iPhone client).

B&N NOOKstudy sets sights on students

Barnes & Noble are pushing to get their nook dual-screen ereader into schools, with the announcement of NOOKstudy.  A new, free digital content management app, NOOKstudy promises to take ebooks, digital class materials, textbooks and notes, and keep everything packaged neatly in one place.  The app doesn't actually require a nook to be functional - though obviously B&N would rather you did buy one - since you can buy, download and read eTextbooks on the PC or Mac client itself.

Considering all the hub-bub that the Amazon Kindle, and Barnes and Noble nook (both versions) received yesterday, we were shocked that some of the other eReaders out there didn't follow suit. Apparently it took a day for the news to hit the competition, because today sees the announcement from Borders that, for the same price as the "nook Lite," you can pick up the Kobo variation, plus a little gift.

Barnes & Noble PubIt! self-publishing ebook service due Summer 2010

Barnes & Noble have announced PubIt!, a way for independent publishers and authors to create their own ebook content for the B&N ebook store, and the company's response to the Kindle Digital Text platform.  Full royalty details for B&N PubIt! are yet to be confirmed, but ebooks produced via the system will be DRM encrypted and available not only on the nook but the retailer's PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone and BlackBerry clients.
