Nokia Lumia 720 USA release imminent: FCC tapped

, Mar 5th 2013 Discuss [0]

Today the Nokia Lumia 720 has been spotted running through the hoops at the FCC, this being one of the prerequisites for a USA release and a generally OK indicator that a launch here in the states is imminent. We got to take a peek at the Lumia 720 just a week ago at Mobile World Congress 2013 and found it to be a rather impressive machine - especially considering how inexpensive the company aims for it to be. We're to understand that this device may be heated to AT&T first, with the other major carriers coming up quickly behind. Read The Full Story

Nokia “Catwalk” and “Lazer” bring Windows Phone 8 a full metal jacket

, Mar 4th 2013 Discuss [0]

Though Nokia’s Lumia lineup hasn’t thus far been called the thinnest or most hardcore on the market at any point in its short history, it all might change soon with two new models named “Catwalk” and “Lazer”. Spoken about under-cover over this past week internationally, both handsets are being tipped to take the bits and pieces in the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia 808 PureView that people don’t like and toss them out. Left will be a couple of handsets that set the minds of the consumer public on fire – wildfire!

Nokia EOS to sport aluminum body, waterproof nano coating

, Mar 4th 2013 Discuss [0]

We've heard ramblings of Nokia's upcoming rumored flagship before, known as the "EOS" or "Catwalk." This time around, we're hearing some really interesting tidbits of about the phone, most particularly that it'll come with an aluminum outer shell, and will be waterproof thanks to a special nano coating from P2i, which is a partnership that the company's allegedly worked out at Mobile World Congress last week. Nokia Lumia 928 spotted in Verizon Wireless’s inventory

, Mar 3rd 2013 Discuss [0]

Those of you on contract with Verizon Wireless may be excited to hear that the Nokia Lumia 928 has been spotted on Verizon's inventory log. The Lumia 928 has actually been placed there way back in January 17th, and it should be coming out sometime in the near future. Verizon's customers have been waiting anxiously for the Nokia Lumia 920 to make it to their carrier ever since it launched on AT&T's network, and while there is the Nokia Lumia 822 on Verizon's Network, it doesn't have the same aesthetic appeal as the Lumia 920. This week at Mobile World Congress 2013 we’ve seen Nokia‘s own Lumia 820 and 520 getting their own custom casings (not just covers, that is) with the MakerBot Replicator 2 – live and in-action! MWC 2013 Post-Mortem

Mobile World Congress 2013 scrambles to a close, a week of new phones and tablets, a shiny new venue, and more questions as to whether the days of the big trade show are numbered. It’s been a show where the divisions between the mobile upstarts and the current key players have been sharply defined, with ZTE, Huawei, and Nokia all pushing to corner the market, while Samsung and HTC were notable by their relative absence of announcements, favoring their own, standalone events. Nevertheless, there’s plenty to wrap up, and seldom has a headline been so accurate in so many ways.

Nokia “Head Up”: How Lumia’s future is sharper than Glass

, Feb 28th 2013 Discuss [0]

Are wearables like Google Glass the inevitable future for smartphones? Not if you ask Nokia, where simply floating a display in your line of sight doesn’t quite satisfy the self-imposed “head up” challenge its designers and engineers are facing. The evolution of Lumia isn’t just bigger displays or faster chips, it’s a new way of interacting with the digital world. SlashGear sat down with Jo Harlow, EVP of Smart Devices, Marco Ahtisaari, EVP of Design, and Stefan Pannenbecker, VP of Industrial Design at Mobile World Congress this week to talk “people versus robots”, rolling back the clock on convergence, and how the Finns want to pry our eyes away from smartphone screens, even if we’re looking at a Lumia.

A QWERTY Lumia? Don’t hold your breath says Nokia’s smartphone boss

, Feb 28th 2013 Discuss [0]

Nokia may not have ruled out a QWERTY Windows Phone for its portfolio, but the chances of a device with a physical keyboard are shrinking, according to smartphone chief Jo Harlow. Speaking to SlashGear at Mobile World Congress this week, where Nokia took its Windows Phone 8 range to five devices with the addition of the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720, Harlow admitted that the company’s reluctance to revisit physical text entry options was down to a fear of being left on the wrong side of the mobile industry’s momentum – again.

Nokia 105 hands-on: nearly free and perfectly simple

, Feb 27th 2013 Discuss [0]

With the Nokia 105, the former king of mobile phone sales once again attempts to take out an ace: a super-simple phone that looks cool, acts cool, and will cost you less than a couple of movie tickets. With the Nokia 105 you've got two color options - blue or black, and a price point at right around $20 USD (or 15 EURO, depending on where you live), with a release set for somewhere inside the second half of 2013. It's got a flashlight, a tiny (1.45 TFT LCD) yet brightly colored display, and the ability to play a couple of super pixel-friendly games like Forbidden Treasures and Snake Xenzia (aka simply Snake - your favorite!) Nokia NFC Wireless Charging Car Holder hands-on with Lumia 720

This week we're having a look at a set of new Nokia devices, one of the most instantly appealing being the universal NFC Wireless Car Charger. This device is made to work with the Lumia lineup of Nokia devices first and foremost, of course, working with Qi standard wireless charging as well as embedded NFC to tell your device it's docked. When you do dock a device like the wireless charging-shell CC-3068-toting Lumia 720, you've got wireless charging, NFC-activated car mode, and a fully secure clamped-in setup. This lovely beast also has several features that allow you to use it with whatever smartphone you like. Read The Full Story

Nokia Lumia 520 hands-on: the new high end of low

, Feb 25th 2013 Discuss [0]

In the Nokia Lumia 520 you've got Nokia's newest low-end of great, including their renewed dedication to a pure aesthetic, Windows Phone 8, and a rather inexpensive price point. This device is a bit of a shell in the way it appears in the hand, with the front being more of a flat experience while the back bubbles out, and the edges are sharp. Of course no Nokia would be a real Nokia if the edges were actually sharp as a device could be, so you'll find this device "pillowy" when compared to the rest of the smartphones of the world made by non-Nokia OeMs. Read The Full Story

Nokia Lumia 720 hands-on: high-end on a budget

, Feb 25th 2013 Discuss [0]

With the Nokia Lumia 720, the company continues with their unique design solution with high-end specifications on a low-cost Windows Phone 8 solution. Here we’re finding this lovely device to be rather like the Nokia Lumia 820, complete with “pillowy” design elements. The glass up front is curved around the edges, software is swift and rather responsive, and the whole experience is, if we didn’t know better, appearing very much to be the nicest Windows Phone 8 show of power on the market.
