Nokia’s N8 started shipping to pre-order customers today, slipping just inside their Q3 2010 promise, and the Finns were kind enough to offer us one of the first from the production line. Fresh out of Helsinki, the new N8‘s are certainly well made and feel just as premium in the hand as the prototypes always did.
Nokia's N8 has begun shipping, and you do get the feeling from the company's tersely-titled press release (which you can read after the cut) that they're getting no small amount of satisfaction from proving wrong the naysayers who predicted lengthy delays. To be fair, as we heard previously, you'll have had to be among the first batch of pre-order customers if you want to get your N8 smartish; Nokia says there'll be "broad availability" over the coming weeks.

One way for Nokia to make some headway into the United States market, is to team up with one of the largest wireless carriers in this neck of the woods. And while Nokia's longevity is a topic of contention for a lot of people out there, that's not stopping the company from doing what they can to make sure that Nokia's a household name, some day. Silly us; here we were waiting for Nokia's official launch of the N8, and all we needed to do was head over to eBay. A supposedly "brand new & boxed" N8 has just sold on the online auction site for a measly £310 - that's £119 less than the unlocked, SIM-free model is going for on Nokia's own preorder page - meaning someone will get their hands on the smartphone potentially weeks ahead of everybody else.

The Nokia N8 launch is getting pretty confusing. After rumors of global delays - which the company squashed - the Finnish firm then performed an apparent about-turn and admitted yesterday that it would be holding the shipments into October "to do some final amends." Now, according to the company's official blog, the reports based on yesterday's statement are still wrong: the N8 will apparently be shipping from the end of September, as originally promised.

It looks like rumors about the Nokia N8 being delayed were true, after all. In a recent report last week, Indian analyst Gaurav Hasabnis claimed that Nokia would be delaying the N8 smartphone until October, saying that it was in fact a global delay. But Nokia said that everything was still on track in the same report, pointing out that they would still be making that late Q3 2010 launch window. Press material continued to state that, by the end of September, the N8 would be available and in customer's hands. However, that's all come crashing down, as Nokia has officially delayed the N8 for a few weeks.

While Nokia had three new devices to show at Nokia World this week - the E7, C7 and C6 - the company's researchers also had some concepts not quite ready for primetime. The Nokia Blog spotted "Plug and Touch" running on the Nokia N8, an app which basically turns any HDMI-connected display (whether HDTV, projector or something else) into a huge touchscreen.

Nokia’s E7 may slot into the Finnish company’s business-centric ESeries range, but that’s not to say the handset has nothing for more mainstream users. We spoke to Nokia’s David Rivas, VP of technology management, about the E7′s multimedia appeal, together with finding out why, exactly, they’re so confident with it as an enterprise offering. I’m in London this week at Nokia World and it’s a defining moment for Nokia. Last week Nokia announced their CEO’s departure, and new CEO (and Microsoft alum) Stephen Elop. Nokia phones once defined state of the art and the S60 platform defined the modern smartphone era in 2002. Today, in a world dominated by news of the latest Android and iOS devices, Nokia looks to drive forward their relevance and innovation.
Among the plethora of news, one of the highlights is Nokia officially unveiling the N8, their flagship device for the Symbian^3 platform. I’ve been using one for the last week or so and I can safely say it’s the best Symbian phone I’ve ever used. The question remains, though: is that good enough in today’s competitive market?
Nokia has outed its new range of smartphones, and there are three new devices alongside the N8. First up is the Nokia C6, a full touchscreen handset with a new CBD “ClearBlack Display” that, according to Anssi Vanjoki, is “blacker than black”. Then there’s the Nokia C7 – “the thin one” says Vanjoki – with the same functionality as the C6, a 3.5-inch display, more memory and a stainless steel chassis.
