Nokia EOS vs Lumia 920 shows just how small true PureView got

Nokia's EOS PureView camera has cropped up in the wild again, now getting up close comparison-style with the Lumia 920 and showing just how little has changed from the front of the Windows Phone, at least. The new image, shared by perennial EOS tipster ViziLeaks, shows that the two handsets are largely identical, though the protruding camera bulge of the unannounced phone does tip it at an angle. Nokia Lumia 920 users tempted by the improved lens of the Lumia 925 and the new Windows Phone’s broader ISO support should probably hold off before they trade in, with Nokia’s photograpy chief Juha Alakarhu promising an incoming update will significantly narrow the gap between the phones. While all eyes are on the new Lumia 925 today, Nokia has a pleasant surprise for existing 920 owners, with confirmation that the Amber update due this summer will bring many of the improvements to the older device. Meanwhile, Alakarhu also explained why Nokia’s burst-photo system is better than, say, HTC’s Zoe approach, and why the Finnish firm would be happy to work on making it better.

The mobile device and data carrier Verizon is often considered the one to beat in the United States, making this week's report of a possible exclusive release with Nokia a ray of positive light for the smartphone manufacturer. Sources have mentioned the possibility of a device coming to Verizon in the very near future by the name Nokia Lumia 928, one we've heard rumors of before. This device would take the successes of the Nokia Lumia 920 and bring a Verizon-tuned setup to the market with 4G LTE, aiming for a win with Windows Phone 8 while the majority of the devices carried by this top US mobile provider run iOS or Android. We've heard about the Nokia Lumia 928 off-and-on this year, reporting early in March that the handset had surfaced in Verizon's inventory log, having been placed nearly two months earlier than that on January 17. This week The Guardian is tipping the world from one of their anonymous sources that Nokia may well be bringing their full-on Nokia 808 PureView 41 megapixel sensor to a set of standard smartphones in 2013. This tip comes from "sources close to the Finnish handset maker" and is indeed appearing to us to be just about as incredible as it may seem to you. What we'll likely see instead is a continuation of the Nokia Lumia 920's high-powered camera technology rather than the beast that is the lens configuration on the 808 - let's have a chat about why. Nokia EOS Windows Phone tipped with “proper” PureView

Nokia is readying the first Windows Phone to be truly worthy of PureView branding, currently codenamed EOS, new whispers suggest, with the 2013 handset expected to drop on AT&T later in the year. The Nokia EOS – the project name of which may well be a nod to Canon’s DSLR range – will pack a “similar sensor” to that of the 41-megapixel Nokia 808 PureView, according to The Verge‘s sources, as well as a new industrial design.

Nokia “Catwalk” to replace Lumia 920 with sleek aluminum body

Nokia is planning at least one top-tier Windows Phone using an aluminum body rather than the colorful polycarbonate of the existing Lumia range, with the handset – codenamed Catwalk – due sometime this year. Expected to be both thinner and lighter than the Nokia Lumia 920, the Nokia Catwalk will be part of a three device refresh, according to The Verge‘s sources.

The fine folks behind the camera software working with the Nokia Lumia smartphones on the market today have revealed a great boost for one of the odder features: Cinemagraph - the gif-maker. With this app made by Nokia to work directly with the camera built-in to the device you're able to create images called Cinemagraphs - still images (in .gif format) that have moving components.
