Nokia has confirmed that developers in its Launchpad project will be automatically receiving one of the 25,000 free Windows Phone 7 handsets the company has promised to coders in recent weeks, following up on the original free phone offer back in February. Launchpad members - who also got a free E7 - join Nokia Developer Champions in receiving either a Lumia 800 or Lumia 710, as well as a rebate on Microsoft's App Hub membership fee.

Spotify Windows Phone 7 app hands-on [Video]
Spotify for Windows Phone 7 has arrived in the Marketplace, and we wasted no time in breaking out the Nokia Lumia 800 and trying out the streaming music app. Announced yesterday, the app supports synchronized playlists with the desktop client, Spotify People friends updates, sharing via social networks and – most important for mobile use, perhaps – offline playback. Nokia Lumia 800 Review
There’s a whole lot riding on the Lumia 800. Nokia’s first Windows Phone and the handset that will usher in – so the company hopes – a new era of smartphone relevance and a turnaround in fortunes. Question is, will the Lumia 800 be Finnish enough for long-time followers as well as mainstream enough for a new audience of smartphone users. Nokia Lumia 800 to hit UK on November 16, black first, other colors to follow
Nokia has confirmed that its much anticipated Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handset, the Nokia Lumia 800, will go on sale first in the UK starting November 16. But carriers will only stock the black model initially with the Cyan and Magenta versions to come later. The gorgeous device is designed based off of the company's N9 MeeGo handset and was unveiled at last month's Nokia World Conference.

Nokia CEO swipes at overstuffed app stores
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has dismissed criticisms that Windows Phone lacks the app heft of its Android and iOS rivals, arguing that "there's only so many flashlight apps that you need for a smartphone." In fact, Elop reckons, the number of essential apps necessary number only "in the hundreds" the chief exec told Bloomberg, suggesting that "it's not a race of total quantity" but of making sure the "must haves" are accounted for.

Nokia Lumia 800 Unboxing
Now that was quick: announced on Wednesday last week, already the Nokia Lumia 800 is here on the SlashGear test bench. Availability in-store will take a week or so more, but we couldn’t wait to get to grips with the Finn’s first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handset. The smartphone on which much of Nokia’s future rests, there’s a whole lot riding on reviewers – and shoppers – falling for the polycarbonate unibody allure.
Nokia World 2011 Wrap-up
Nokia World 2011 has come and gone, a pivotal event for the cellphone giant and one which, while not answering every question we had about the company’s Windows Phone future, at least demonstrated that it’s taking its evolution very seriously. Vincent has already shared his opinion of the show from a US perspective, highlighting the wins and near-misses Nokia made in convincing a North American audience it has legs; now it’s time for our customary Nokia World wrap-up.
Nokia World 2011: The US Perspective
This week was a big one in mobile, plus I lost my virginity. Nokia World 2011 took place in London, my first time at the show, with the company revealing the Windows Phone handsets its bet the farm on. We’ve covered the event in previous years here on SlashGear, but for the first time it felt like there was some relevance in what Nokia was doing to the US market. I’ve left the UK, and the show, with plenty of unanswered questions and mixed opinions about Nokia – and Windows Phone – moving forward.

Nokia is particularly proud of the photographic abilities of its smartphones, and so when they said we could borrow of Lumia 800 here at Nokia World to test out the 8-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, we thought we’d take it for a spin. Since we also had an iPhone 4S and a Samsung Galaxy S II weighing down our pockets, it only seemed fair to shoot a few comparison shots as well. Nokia: Lumia 710 on US site is info-only, not launch tease
Nokia has reconfirmed that it has no plans to launch either the Lumia 800 or Lumia 710 in the US, despite the new low-end Windows Phone making an appearance on the company’s US site. Speaking to SlashGear on day two of Nokia World 2011 today, Nokia execs reiterated that the company plans an entirely distinct line-up of Windows Phones for the US market, expected to launch in Q1 2012.

It’s time to take a look at both of the new Windows Phone enabled devices Nokia has announced today at Nokia World 2011, the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Lumia 710. While both devices do run the newest version of Windows Phone, that being version 7.5 Mango, thats where the perfect consistency ends. Nokia has made two different devices here for two different crowds – see if you can tell which is aimed at who!
iPhone 4S vs Lumia 800
While we know good and well it’s more about the full package than it is about any single specification on the device, it’s always interesting to compare one hero device to another. That’s why what we’re going to do here is to take Apple’s current best in class, the iPhone 4S running iOS 5, and compare it to the Lumia 800, the newest Nokia hero running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, also Microsoft’s newest mobile OS. Will this device that looks RATHER similar to what we’ve seen in the Nokia N9 MeeGo device be able to run Windows Phone successfully enough to take a cut into the iPhone’s mighty market share?
