Nokia brings the “Lumia Challenge” to London

Nokia brings the “Lumia Challenge” to London

Those who live in London unfortunately don’t have a chance to take the “Smoked by Windows Phone” challenge, a campaign that’s been limited to the United States so far. Nokia, however, has decided to run a similar campaign to promote its Lumia handsets. The contests are fairly similar to the “Smoked by Windows Phone”, although the prizes on offer aren’t quite as enticing.

Nokia Lumia 800 battery fix firmware released

The near-magical update for the Nokia Lumia 800, tipped to hugely increase battery life for the Windows Phone, has been officially released. The new firmware "shows significant improvements" in the Lumia 800's runtime, Nokia says, along with improvements to audio quality and some other tweaks. However, there's still no WiFi tethering, and not every Lumia 800 user will get the new firmware immediately.

“Smoked by Windows Phone” winner to auction prizes for charity

Yesterday probably wasn't very fun for Microsoft. They were accused of not playing fair when it came to their “smoked by Windows Phone” competition, telling a winner that he lost “just because”. The story quickly gained traction in the media, and hoping to avoid the situation blowing up further, Microsoft representative Ben Rudolph took to Twitter to apologize. He also offered up the $1,000 prize laptop as well as a Windows Phone.

How Low Can Nokia Go?

Nokia is ramping up for a far more interesting Mobile World Congress than in recent years: having opted out of a presence in 2011, rumors have it that the Finns have at least two new Windows Phones to bolster their range. After the original Lumia 800 and 710, and the imminent Lumia 900 headed to AT&T, we're also told to expect a new, higher-end device in the shape of a European 900 variant, along with an entry-level model that should cater to a more affordable price point. Question is, with Symbian's appeal souring ahead of schedule, has Nokia done enough to shave away smartphone pricing.

Nokia Lumia 800 is jet fighter tough, survives MACH 5 wind tunnel test

Nokia has touted before that its Lumia 800 Windows Phone is made from the same material used in real life jet fighters, but NokNok has now put that claim to the test. Since taking the Lumia 800 for an actual nose dive in a jet wasn't an option, the team instead threw the device into a MACH 5 wind tunnel. And yes, it survived and phoned home just fine after the extreme test. You can watch the video after the cut.
