Nokia shipped 500k 5800 ‘Tube’ phones in last 30 days [Updated]

, Jan 23rd 2009 Discuss [0]

It's obviously not just Londoners who fancy some Nokia 'Tube' action: according to company CEO, Olli Pekka Kallasvuo, over half a million Nokia 5800 handsets have been shipped in the last 30 days.  Not bad at all, when you consider that the touchscreen XpressMusic handset was only available in "limited markets", and enough to make Kallasvuo believe that "the Nokia 5800 has the potential to become our highest revenue and gross margin generating device in a fairly short order." Update: Nokia have just issued a release saying that one million 5800 handsets have now shipped.  Remember, that doesn't mean devices sold, just in circulation among consumers, stores and suppliers. Codenamed the “Tube”, this handset brings a touchscreen element that Nokia has not really taken part in before. Being a mid-grade phone that is not aimed directly at Apple’s iPhone, how does it stack up?

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic ‘Tube’ hands-on first impression

, Dec 15th 2008 Discuss [1]

We have been dying to get our hands on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic since seeing the first leaked info. Vincent just got this device in on Friday and luckily for me he decided to let me do the review. The first thing that came to mind when holding this device was wow this is smaller than I had originally imagined. It may or may not be due to the flood of Nokia N97 pictures that I have not been able to take my eyes off of this past week. Hopefully this handset will keep us occupied for a while as we wait.
