Nissan Leaf CARWINGS turns driving into an eco-competition

Nissan has found a way to take advantage of the competition between eco-conscious drivers to promote fuel-efficient use of its new Leaf electric vehicle. The Leaf's CARWINGS telematics system includes an app, the My Nissan Leaf forum discovered, that not only tracks individual efficiency but compares it with other Leaf drivers in the region. Nissan Reveals Fuel Efficient ECO Pedal System

For a car only available in Japan (for now), a car called the Nissan Fuga, Nissan has created a system called ECO Pedal, a system that'll improve fuel efficiency anywhere from five to ten percent. How does this pedal work, you might ask? It provides resistance so that the user will be less inclined to press it all the way down. But there's more, right? It can't just be harder to press down the gas pedal, right? There's just a little bit more, it's not just a brick under your pedal, but essentially it's just a system that suggests you be more sensible about how hard your pressing the gas. Approximately 100 years after Henry Ford starts producing the Model T, now, finally, we've got some nice computers jammed up in there. Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive 7 is out, and it's super fancy. Obviously this isn't the first computer system in a car, not by a long shot, but it's definitely exciting enough to call a milestone. Namco Bandai and Nissan Team Up to Create Futuristic Yokohama City in Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality (VR) was all the rage several years ago. In arcades all over the world (where you could find them), there were rigs set up to showcase a digital world, where the player was fully submerged. A part of the game, and not just playing it. And while it may have quieted down over the years, it looks like Nissan and Namco Bandai have found a way to make it useful again. Both companies have announced today that they plan on creating a driving simulation that uses advanced VR technology, with a Smart Grid, to provide an in-depth driving experience second to none. NEC fit Nissan Leaf speed chargers in Oregon: 80% in 30 minutes

NEC aren't just responsible for the batteries in Nissan's Leaf EV, they've also been working on the chargers too.  The Japanese company has kicked off a new pilot scheme in Oregon, installing chargers that can rejuice electric cars to around 80-percent in just 20-30 minutes.  The scheme follows on from a project started in October 2009, with around fifty of the new third-gen chargers being installed. NEC begins Nissan Leaf EV battery mass production

NEC has begun mass production of high-capacity lithium ion batteries for electric cars, and while that might not sound interesting, if you're considering a Nissan Leaf it's NEC's power packs that will be keeping you moving.  Initially production is at the company's Sagamihara plant in Japan, but in of 2013 the joint-venture started by NEC and Nissan plan to shift production to a new facility in Tennessee, USA, for EV models destined for domestic use. Nissan Leaf EV pre-sales kick off today

Nissan's Leaf may not be the most aesthetically pleasing all-electric car, but it's looking set to be the first one in a long time to go on sale in the US.  The company is contacting those would-be buyers in the US who signed up for more information, telling them that - as of later on today - they'll be able to put down a $99 refundable deposit to buy or lease a Leaf of their own. Nissan makes GPS navigation a cheap option on popular cars

We can all add GPS to our cars if we want by schlepping down to the local electronics store and paying anywhere from $70 to $500 depending on the features and brand you choose. Add on GPS systems work just fine for the most part, but there is no denying the fact that any add on GPS device is nowhere near as visually appealing as one built-in from the factory. Nissan Eporo robot car gets updated
