Nintendo Wii 2 Coming in 2011, Featuring HD Output and Blu-ray?

Hot on the heels that Nintendo has managed to sell 30 million units of the wildly popular Nintendo Wii (here in the US), comes a new rumor, mingling with an old one. Nothing wrong with that -- if you hear a rumor enough, doesn't it mean it has to come true? In the case of the Wii, which at the moment doesn't support HD gaming (or anything, for that matter), it's that jump to high definition that's got some people firing up the rumor mill yet again.

WiiLeanback adds Wiimote control to YouTube Leanback [Video]

YouTube's new Leanback lounge-friendly UI went live last week, but if you're more comfortable with a remote control than a keyboard then WiiLeanback may be of interest.  The handiwork of Robert Oschler, who has been merrily controlling WowWee robots with the Nintendo Wii controller for some time, WiiLeanback is basically a simple way to use the wiimote as a remote for the new YouTube interface.

Digiwinner Machine Gun Wii Accessory Brings Too Much Realism to the Wii

Digiwinner Machine Gun Wii Accessory Brings Too Much Realism to the Wii

This time around, we can't start a Wii accessory article by saying how "ridiculous" it is. In fact, this one is way more "normal" than we would ever have guessed we'd see launch for the Nintendo Wii. Then again, we're not sure this one's officially sanctioned by the House of Mario, either, so . . . Take that for what it's worth. This is Digiwinner's Machine Gun accessory, and yes, you're supposed to use it for all those rail-shooters available for the Wii.

Microsoft: 3D Gaming is Too Expensive

Microsoft: 3D Gaming is Too Expensive

We know Sony's pushing 3D hard on their home video game console. Nintendo? They've got 3D down in the mobile gaming market. So, where's Microsoft's stand on all of this? When it comes to 3D, Microsoft doesn't seem to be making a play for the 3D market quite yet. In fact, if it weren't for motion-based gaming with the Kinect, it wouldn't seem like they were moving into the future at all (unless you count that shiny new console). Thanks to the head of Xbox in the UK, we now get a glimpse of what Microsoft thinks of this "new" platform.

CTA Digital Inflatable Race Car Accessory for the Wii Unveiled at E3

CTA Digital Inflatable Race Car Accessory for the Wii Unveiled at E3

We're beginning to think that part of the draw of Nintendo's video game console isn't the console itself, but the crazy accessories people can create for the games. From footballs to rowing machines, they really are all over the place. This time around, though, we may have hit the nail on the head. Because if you've played a few games of Mario Kart Wii, then you know holding that steering wheel accessory isn't nearly as cool as it should be. Why? Because you don't have a car to go along with it. Now you do.

CTA Wii Rowing Accessory is $34.99 Too Much [Video]

As much as we love ridiculous accessories, especially for the Nintendo Wii, this one might take the cake. And not just a piece, either, but the whole thing. It's supposed to be a rowing machine (that's what it says in the commercial), and it's actually supposed to help you, some how. We realize that many people consider the Wii a revolutionary work-out assistant, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

Black Nintendo Wii Could be Coming to the States After All

Black Nintendo Wii Could be Coming to the States After All

When the black Nintendo Wii was announced for Japan last year, it was one of the most hotly anticipated pieces of technology here in the States, at least for a few months. That probably wavered, a lot, when a month after that announcement, Nintendo came forward and revealed that the coveted piece of tech wouldn't be coming to the United States. It only got worse when European "limited edition" models started showing up in Europe near the holiday season, but there was still no US launch date. Well, things may be changing for the better.

NPD with report that Wii fronts video game industry to “biggest sales month ever” in December

NPD Group’s retail data released last night discloses that December was the video game industry’s “biggest sales month ever”, besting last December by 4%.  While it wasn't enough to match up with 2008's combined record-smashing revenues, December's sales rally saved 2009 from an even dismal finish, leaving aggregate industry revenue 8 points down, or $19.7 billion compared to last year's $21.4 billion.
