Nintendo TVii hits Wii U in US and Canada on December 20

Nintendo's TVii update for the Wii U will land in the US and Canada on December 20, the company has announced, turning the motion-tracking console into a smart TV hub. Eventually promising to take control of your TiVo box, as well as cable and satellite TV, and on-demand content, the TVii service allows users to access Hulu Plus and Netflix from their Wii U GamePad.

Nintendo TVii launching December 8 in Japan, US and Europe in 2013 [update]

Nintendo has announced that TVii, the Wii U's multimedia TV guide, will launch alongside the console's Japan launch on December 8, while US and European users will have to until 2013 in order to get TVii functionality. TVii pulls data from Rovi’s G-Guide and lets gamers scroll through listings using the GamePad.

UPDATE: It's confirmed that Europe will see the 2013 delay, but a solid release date for the US is actually still unknown. The last we heard, TVii was delayed into December, so it's possible we may see it on the 8th along with Japan, but no official word from Nintendo on that yet.

Reggie Fils-Aime talks Wii U Nintendo TVii delay

The launch of the Wii U is exciting for any Nintendo fan, but one thing that's bumming owners out is the delay of Nintendo TVii. We found out just before launch that Nintendo TVii won't be arriving until sometime in December, when before that announcement, Nintendo had been saying that the service would be patched in at launch. The last minute delay has to sting for some who were looking forward to Nintendo TVii, but in a new interview with MTV Multiplayer, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime did his best to justify the delay.

Built on the fact that, for many, the Wii has been the single way their TV has been hooked up online, Nintendo TVii will offer access to live TV channels, to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon rentals/purchases, and recorded content on a DVR like a TiVo.
