zoom lensNEC have developed a technology that, they claim, will cut out zoom lens and auto-focus motor noise during video recording.  The system uses a microphone and DSP that generates “pseudo-noise” to cancel out background buzzing from the camcorder’s own hardware; the advantage of a predominantly software system is that it can be fitted to even the smallest of point-and-shoot camcorders and video-capable digital cameras.

As well as ongoing, steady noise from hardware, the system is apparently capable of cutting out intermittent or unexpected sounds, such as noise from the cylinder lens or mirrors.  In fact it’s even clever enough to take into account the ageing of motors and tweak the “pseudo-noise” accordingly.

Little more than a tiny image and a handful of specs right now, but NEC are believed to be working on a mobile PC that, to our squinting at least, looks to be Android based.  The touchscreen slate has a 7- to 8-inch LCD display, and NEC apparently have high hopes for its sales performance: they're predicting that they'll eventually ship over 1m of the UMPCs each year.

It packs all the grace of an FM radio, but the NEC Aterm WM3300R distinguishes itself not by aesthetics but by packing a WiMAX radio and WiFi router into a palm-sized device.  Basically a MiFi but for WiMAX rather than 3G connections, the WM3300R offers up to 40Mbps downlinks and up to 10Mbps uplinks, together with a removable 1,880mAh Li-Ion battery.

Wearable computer concepts aren’t new, and we’ve even seen the odd DIY effort, but NEC are hoping to drive the idea into the mainstream market.  The NEC Tele Scouter also attempts to solve one of the fundamental issues wearables suffer: sufficient processing power for real-time functionality while ensuring the end result is light and compact enough to be carried and doesn’t guzzle its way through batteries.

Truth be told, 19″ monitors seem to be an ancient past-time, only talked about in hushed whispers, amongst technophiles joking about their parent’s sloppy PC setup. Sure, there’s a niche for the smaller screen sizes, and it looks like NEC wants to slide right into that spot. They’ve got a new LCD monitor set to hit shelves some times this month, and it’s got some pretty interesting aspects to it that might grab the attention of any working professional out there.

There are so many uses for projectors from boring presentations at school or the office to the much more fun like big screen gaming or football games. No matter what you are using a projector for, it has to be appropriate for the environment it will be used in. Big venues are especially demanding on projectors with the need for a very bright device.
