Nokia Maemo 5 Apparently Perfectly Acceptable For Carrier Customizations

It's only been a day since we reported that Nokia was planning on keeping carrier branding as far away from the N900 and Maemo-enabled devices as possible, but it looks like all of that just changed. In a big way. And now, it seems that Nokia is taking a stand in the other direction, leaving us to wonder what the deal really is. Was our excitement misplaced? After our initial hands-on with the N900 – the video and gallery of which you can see here – we spent some more time playing with the Maemo 5 smartphone at Nokia World this week.  Our initial enthusiasm has been tempered a little by some of the real-world compromises that blending a smartphone and an Internet Tablet demand, though we’re still looking forward to a full review unit; check out our hands-on impressions after the cut.

Nokia N97 mini first-impressions [Video]

We made no bones about our disappointment with the Nokia N97 back when we reviewed it in late June, so we were wary of the N97 mini.  Having played with it at Nokia World this week, it’s clear that many of the issues we had with the larger model have been addressed; still, there are some glaring frustrations that leave us more enchanted by the N900 than this new, compact device.  Check out our first-impressions and a hands-on gallery and video after the cut.

Nokia N900 Maemo 5 Shown Off In Very Vibrant Video

Nokia World is coming. Did you get the memo? Or, should we say, Maemo? If you didn't, you probably still already know about it, considering "we've covered" already. And starting tomorrow, the news will start to take on a far more official standpoint. Not that the Nokia N900 isn't official, because it certainly is, but sometimes getting the information from the horse's mouth is a lot better. And who can say no to press events? We certainly can't. Well, the Nokia N900 is official, and everyone is eagerly waiting to see if anything else gets outed about the device at this week's upcoming Nokia World. Nokia N900 available for pre-order in Germany and Italy

We have talked about the Nokia N900 a few times already and we know most of the details of the device. The N900 will be the first Nokia mobile phone to run Maemo, which is Linux derived.
