Microsoft’s My Phone backup service for Windows Mobile devices has shifted into public beta, meaning that anyone can now sign up and test out the system.  My Phone uses an on-device backup client to synchronize contacts, calendar entries, SMS messages and media with the cloud, as well as offering a web interface through which they can be viewed, edited and added to.

Microsoft have officially confirmed their My Phone backup and synchronization service, after it was spotted running ahead of time last week.  An official announcement regarding the service - plus an invite-only beta – is expected for Mobile World Congress, but what we do know now is that My Phone will offer synchronization of contacts, appointment and other date, together with photo sharing, for Windows Mobile handsets.

It looks as though Microsoft have prematurely launched their mobile backup service, codenamed SkyBox, an announcement of which is expected at Mobile World Congress later this month.  Now named My Phone, though found at getskybox.com, the beta service promises 200MB of storage for contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, photos, videos, text messages, music and documents, via an on-phone sync app.
