I don’t think anyone is surprised that we are seeing new tablets hit the market in the post iPad unveiling days and weeks despite the fact that some are predicting the iPad will not be popular for Apple. The latest new tablet to debut is from a company called OpenPeak and it is called the OpenTablet 7.

The OpenTablet 7 is a slick looking device that is portable and has a multi-touch touchscreen that is 7-inches wide and uses LED backlighting. The tablet also supports 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and cellular connectivity. That cellular connectivity allows mobile broadband access and the device has a mic and speakers allowing it to be used as a phone.

Other features include HDMI out, dual cameras for HD video recording and still images. Storage can be expanded with microSD card and the OpenTablet 7 has a USB port. The tablet measures 9″ x 5″ and is 0.59″ thick with a weight of 1.15 pounds. The CPU in the device is a Moorestown Intel Atom. Apps for the device can be developed using Adobe Flash CS4. Pricing and availability are unannounced at this time.

Nokia calls this concept “The Remade”; it uses up cycled aluminum cans, a chassis formed from plastic of used drink bottles, and rubber keys made from old car tires.

Under the hood, printed electronics are made with environmental friendly manufacturing process. You won’t be seeing this green phone soon, but Nokia has planned to use this concept to build up for future Nokia handsets.

Garmin’s Nuvifone is a transformation of GPS into a mobile phone. It features 3.5-inch screen, HSDPA support, WiFi, and GPS functionality. We will have the video up and running soon. For now, enjoy the pictures.

If you thought the N95 was hot (and it is) you should see its younger sibling, the new N96. It has a sleeker physique and shine that is hard to look away from, alright, enough with the human/phone analogy, they didn’t just update the appearance, this phone has some nice specs too.

It has Quad-Band GSM and HSDPA, here are the full deets: WCDMA/HSDPA 900/2100, EGSM 900, GSM/EGPRS 850/1800/1900 MHz. On top of that it has WiFi in the b/g flavors, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, GPS, aGPS, and some of them will even have DVB-H TV receivers.

There is a 5MP cam with optics from Carl Zeiss (as usual) and a dual LED flash/video light. It can capture video in MPEG-4 format at VGA resolutions at a speed of 30 frames per second. Both the videos and the still images can be geo-tagged thanks to the GPS and then stored on the N96’s capacious 16GB of integrated storage space, and they were even kind enough to leave the microSD card slot in there so you could potentially double the integrated storage by adding a microSD card. You can also upload them to Flickr or one of Nokia’s many new video/pictures services they are offering.

There is also a new version of Nokia Maps being announced, version 2.0, and that comes with the N96 as well. The new version offers multimedia city guides, user-downloadable maps, satellite images, and obviously navigation. But the navigation even has multiple functions with your choice of voice-directed car nav or pedestrian turn-by-turn directions.

There is a 2.8-inch QVGA display that you can watch MPEG-4, MPEG-4 with AVC/H.264, RealVideo, WMV9, Flash Lite 3.0, and Flash videos on, along with whatever can be streamed from various sources, or the DVB-H browser. Music wise you have your choice of formats including MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, and WMA which can be played from the integrated stereo speakers, the 3.5mm headphone jack, or via the A2DP Bluetooth profile that is included.

Obviously it is running S60 as its quite possibly one of the best mobile OS’s around so it has all the nifty apps and such that are generally included as well as the N-Gage gaming system. It weighs 125 grams and has the dimensions of 103x55x18 millimeters. For battery life they are claiming it gets 220/150 minutes of use for GSM/3G and 220/200 hours of standby time for the same. Then there are the claims of 5 hours of video playback, 14 hours of audio, and 4 hours for TV playback.

I want one of these now, it’s like a more attractive, more media centric version of the N95. If you, like me, want one of these, we’ll have to wait until the 3rd quarter and then we’ll have to come up with the $797 price tag this device will fetch, but honestly, other than a really upgraded iPhone, this is the only phone I’ve seen that I’d gladly pay that price for.

Other than the new N96, Nokia is dropping the N78, 6220, and 6210 devices and the new Version 2.0 of their Nokia Maps application. They all have their intended audience, the N78 is for the professional who is also into photography, the 6220 is intended for those not looking for something as full-featured as the N-Series, but want some nice functionality in a fairly basic phone, and the 6210 is aimed at those that need direction, as in GPS direction.

The 6220 is a fairly basic candy-bar phone but it adds HSDPA for fast surfing/tethering and aGPS with Nokia Maps 2.0 for navigation. It also has a 5MP cam with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, it has quad-band GSM, the S60 OS, a 2.2-inch screen, 160MB of integrated storage, a microSD card slot, FM radio, and the usual array of S60 apps as well as support for MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, and MPEG-4 media files. It has up to 20x digital zoom for pictures or up to 10x zoom for videos and both can be directly uploaded to a few different online services. Overall it’s a pretty good phone with some really high-end features for the less feature-oriented consumer; it will be out 3rd quarter this year for $470 prior to any subsidies or taxes.

The N78 doesn’t differ too much from the 6220, in fact the only ways it differs, other than in appearance, is the integrated FM transmitter, the lower res 3.2MP camera, the smaller 70MB of integrated storage, the addition of WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and a second front-mounted camera for video conferencing. There are some other less noticeable differences that make it a more professional phone than the 6220, but at the same time they added access to the N-Gage platform for gaming to keep things fun at the same time. The N78 even looks more professional than the 6220, and has a larger battery to keep things going longer; it will come out second quarter of this year for $507 prior to taxes or subsidies.

The 6210 Navigator ditches the candy-bar form factor of the previous two phones and goes with the slider form factor. As I am sure you can tell from the full title of the device, its made primarily for navigation. It has the new version of Nokia Maps built in as well as aGPS, a compass, and an accelerometer which combine to allow you to use the navigation feature both on and off the road. This phone is running the S60 OS as well and has HSDPA running at 3.6Mbps which can be used with the Nav software to look up people, places, and points of interest. On last interesting part about the navigation is that it can be used without a SIM card, so you could feasibly use this device just for navigation, but somehow I think there are better solutions for that. This phone has a 3.2MP cam, an LED flash, and the ability to do both still and video. There is also Bluetooth 2.0 and micro USB for connecting to your computer and for charging. It has 120MB of integrated storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to an 8GB card. Overall, it’s a nice, navigation oriented mobile phone that offers up a lot of features, it will be released the 3rd quarter of this year for $435 prior to taxes and subsidies.

Now for Nokia Maps 2.0, an app that seems to have made its way onto every single device announced by Nokia today. What’s the difference? Well they’ve added multimedia city guides, satellite imagery, better pedestrian navigation, and a new UI. If you have a device with an older version of Nokia Maps, you might be able to get a beta download. There are two modes, walk and drive, in drive mode you get voice directions and on-screen prompts, in walk mode you get almost the same directions, but it includes potential shortcuts that your vehicle probably couldn’t make such as through parks and things of that nature, and you also get informed about landmarks as you are walking past them. Some handsets, such as the 6210, have a compass built in so the map can automatically reorient itself with the direction you are traveling. With each device you’ll get local maps, but you can buy more maps from Nokia and load them onto your phone. They have maps for 200 countries with 70 of those being able to be used for point to point navigation, there is Metro guidance in 17 cities, and for a fee, you can get real-time traffic info and be directed around jams in 18 European countries. It will work with all GPS-enabled Nokia devices even if it only gets its GPS data from a Bluetooth GPS receiver, and they are working on an S40 version for release sometime this half.

This phone is amazing, at least from my point of view, music is my drug of choice so the 8GB of built in storage and the integrated FM transmitter are two features of this phone I love. Add to that the TrackID service that can help you figure out what you are listening to and the PlayNow online music store and I am hooked.

It’s a clamshell phone, which is nice, but for those of you concerned, all of the music controls have been placed on the outside of the phone, so you can control your music without having to open the phone up. Alongside the FM Transmitter there is an FM radio built in, and some cool lights.

There are 8 equalizer presets available, and probably a user programmable one and it comes with a stereo hands-free kit as well. It works on the UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 bands and should be out sometime in June, I want one.

There were rumors of a water-proof phone coming from Sony Ericsson today, and they were right, sort of. The 702 is the splash proof camera phone with a 3.2MP camera, integrated GPS that can be used with Geo-tagging as well as navigation and Google Maps.

Opening the lens cover on the 702 automatically switches the phone into camera mode ditching the usual menu navigation required to get to the camera function meaning you can get to snappin’ a lot quicker so you don’t miss that shot of your grandmother doing a keg stand. The 902 has the same function, but adds a lot of camera-like functions via the series of 8 lit up touch-sensitive buttons you see in the photo.

Those buttons are used for camera modes, photo flash, face detection, auto-focus, and more. The 902 also has 160MB of integrated memory and can use the new MS micro M2 cards, which will come in handy with the 5MP camera that’s attached to the 902.

Both phones also have UMTS/HSDPA 2100, EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900, there are also versions of both phones that lose the UMTS/HSDPA, the C902c and C702a. All four models will be available the second half of this year.

They are kind of being billed as digital organizers, which sounds like code for “just short of a smartphone” but they are pretty nice phones, and if they have a reasonable price their features and cheap price should make them appeal to the public. Both phones have a 2.4-inch touchscreen and a numeric keypad and are in a candy-bar form factor.

Part of the software includes some seemingly cool uses for the touchscreen including post-it style notes that you can write on and send to other people, phonebook and gallery navigation, and you can doodle on the device and send those pictures to other people as well. All very cool features, but those seemingly childish features are backed up my 3.2 (on the G700) and 5.0 (on the G900) megapixel cams with the ability to edit the photos, to some extent, on the phones.

They both work on UMTS 2100 and GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 bands with the G900 also adding WiFi to the list of connectivity options. So, whether you are some kid looking for a nice phone with nice features or a SO/HO user that just needs something to help keep them organized, this could be the phone for you.

It also comes pre-loaded with Google Maps. It has a fairly amazing 8.5 hours of talk time and a 2.2-inch screen.

The RSS feed can be set to display on the home or idle screen and the camera can be set to automatically upload images to an online gallery or blog if you wish. Seems like a pretty amazing phone, and just like the other handsets that have been announced by SE, its coming out second half of this year for an as yet undisclosed price.

This phone has a QWERTY keyboard, WinMo OS, and a 3-inch VGA screen to show it all off on. It also has the XPERIA Panel Interface group which is apparently a grouping of 9 different iterations of the phone’s dashboard that are reorganized/different, each one being more convenient for a certain task that you might be trying to accomplish.

Windows Mobile isn’t exactly the most convenient smartphone OS out there and SE seems to have grasped this and made a move to try and make things at the very least better. The phone has HSDPA/HSUPA, WiFi, and you can control the OS via your choice of keyboard shortcuts, the touch-screen, or the D-Pad/Optical Joystick.

There is aGPS and an all metal body, and I must say, it looks pretty amazing. Sony Ericsson says that the phone should be out in the second half of this year, but we have no details of price yet, or where it will be released, check back on PhoneMag later for videos and more pictures of the device.

The i900 is supposed to be the slimmer, keyboard-free cousin of the F700v or “Croix”, the U900 on the other hand is completely new.

I am assuming from the U prefacing the model number that the U900 is part of Samsungs coveted Ultimate Edition line of mobile devices, so you know its bound to be great. But here are the specs we have for the device thus far, it has a small secondary touch-screen below the main screen, a slide out keypad, a 5MP camera, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Vincent likes it, and thinks that provided it hits North American shores it’ll be Samsung’s second biggest hit, next to the i900.

The i900 is literally the Croix with a 5MP camera and the lack of the keyboard. It has the full touch-screen and the same OS as the Croix, albeit hopefully with some bug fixes as I’ve heard there were some issues with the F700v’s OS. More to come, and as always, stay tuned to PhoneMag.

Vincent hasn’t actually been able to get any real images of the phones as they technically haven’t even been announced yet, but they’re the ones that put up billboards of the phones all over the city, so Vincent got a pic of one of those which shows both handsets. The KF600 is basically the LG Venus, and the KF700 is a full touch-screen phone with haptic feedback.

The KF600 has the same two-display design as the Venus with the bottom one being a contextual touchscreen, it has GPRS/EDGE and a 3MP camera. Not much new here, so, moving on to the KF700.

The KF700 has a full touchscreen that measures 3-inches and has some of that vibrational feedback a lot of these types of phones seem to be getting these days. Other than that, it has 3G (likely HSDPA), a front camera for video conference calls and it seems to have an arc that pops out with contextual options similar to what’s available on the touch-screen portion of the KF600. No word on price or details, but don’t forget to check out PhoneMag for more details and hands on shots when we get them.
