Sony atracTable multitouch table with 3D tracking due June 2010

Remember the atracTable, the alternative to Microsoft's multitouch Surface tablet first demonstrated all the way back in October 2008?  At the time Atracsys was tentatively offering to build the hardware to order; now, having sold their technology to Sony, there's a full scale commercial launch promised, with Pocket-lint being told that Sony "is going to indutrialize a 35-inch atracTable in order to compete against the Microsoft Surface." Garmin-Asus A10 Android smartphone targets pedestrians

, Apr 28th 2010 Discuss [0]

Garmin-Asus have announced their latest smartphone, the Garmin-Asus nuvifone A10, a new Android-based handset which is apparently optimized for pedestrian navigation.  The A10 has a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen supporting multitouch, 5-megapixel camera, GPS and comes preloaded with mapping data and - optionally - cityXplorer guides to public transit systems. While the marketing for the A10 is being targeted at those traveling on foot, automobile users aren't left behind either.  In the box there's a powered audio mount for the A10, with a loudspeaker for more audible voice navigation prompts.  Meanwhile there's also the usual bevy of Android apps together with Microsoft Exchange support and access to the Android Market. Samsung NB30 Touch gets reviewed: decent multitouch but dim display

, Apr 15th 2010 Discuss [0]

Having been officially launched earlier this week, Samsung's NB30 Touch netbook has already turned up for review on at least one German desk.  GeekNews have been putting the 10.1-inch touchscreen ultraportable through its paces, and - despite it being a pre-production unit that they're looking at - they've come away impressed. Multitoe multitouch floor system promises walkable interface [Video]

, Apr 13th 2010 Discuss [0]

Multitouch tables are passé; your feet are where it's at.  Over at Professor Patrick Baudisch's Human Computer Interaction lab at the Hasso Plattner Institute they've been experimenting with using feet to control multitouch systems, but this is far more interesting than the walking piano Tom Hanks played in Big.  In fact, the Multitoe system can not only differentiate between general footsteps and control steps, it can track multiple users and identify them by their feet. ICD Gemini takes on iPad: 1GHz Tegra 2, 3G, multitouch & Android

Last we heard of ICD, the company were showing us their Tegra 2-based Vega and Ultra tablets at CES 2010; now they're back with details of a new model, the ICD Gemini, again using the second-generation 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra chipset and now paired with an 11.2-inch touchscreen (using either a resistive or capacitive panel, both of which support multitouch).  Android does duty as the OS, and the specs certainly don't disappoint at first glance: integrated 3G with voice functionality, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, together with USB peripheral support and twin cameras. Apple iPad Review

The Apple iPad is here, and if ever there was a contentious gadget, this is it. We met with Apple this past week to pick up one of a few iPads let out into the wild early, and have been playing with it ever since. Already the subject of countless discussions, arguments and parodies – not least because of what it doesn’t do rather than what it’s actually capable of – there’s also a grudging expectation that, if anyone can make tablets wildly popular, it’s probably Apple. So, does the iPad live up to its promise, or is this really just an oversized iPod touch too big (and too expensive) for your pocket? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Apple sued over multitouch IP: iPad & iPhone imports under threat?

, Mar 30th 2010 Discuss [5]

Apple's iPad might be shipping out to preorder customers, but there's at least one company who'd like to put a stop to it.  Taiwanese company Elan Microelectronics have filed a suit against Apple with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) today, on the premise that the Cupertino company's multitouch implementation impinges on one of their own patents.  If upheld, the ITC could block Apple from bringing iPads - along with iPhones, iPod touch PMPs and the Magic Mouse - into the US.
