Everything seems to be revolving around patents in the tech space these days. When companies aren’t acquiring them for large amounts of cash, they’re suing others for alleged infringement. Motorola claims that Microsoft fell foul of patent infringement thanks to the use of H.264 in Windows and on the Xbox 360, and a judge last night ruled in favor of Motorola on the issue.

The Xbox 360 was found to infringe on four of Motorola’s patents by a judge at the US International Trade Commission. The patents cover the use of H.264 encoding, an industry standard, so it doesn’t come as much surprise, but it’s a win for Motorola nonetheless. Microsoft tried to argue that Motorola was abusing its H.264 patents, and that they could “kill video on the web”, but the judge wasn’t swayed.

Microsoft responded to the ruling in a statement, saying it “remains confident the Commission will ultimately rule in Microsoft’s favor in this case and that Motorola will be held to its promise to make its standard essential patents available on fair and reasonable terms.” Motorola has requested as much as $4 billion per year for the use of H.264 on the Xbox 360 console, which Microsoft believes to be extortion.

Once fitted upon your wrist it acts like a watch and displays the time and date. However, if you take it off and unroll it, it becomes a fully functional Mp4 video player. It would be powered by kinetic energy in place of traditional batteries as well.

I’d like to see this play out. It’s extremely geeky but very cool, I can only imagine the price tag it would carry though.

The device will also read MP3s and MPEG4s off of discs. On top of that there is a SD card slot that will play the same formats from it.

There isn’t a price or drop date available, but I would assume from its appearance that it will be cheaper than most poolside solutions. So if you are on a tight budget but want something that’s water resistant to watch videos on, this thing has you covered.

There is also a speaker now, whereas before all you had was headphones. There is a digital watch, MP4 player (duh), music player, FM radio, voice recorder, photo album, and e-book reader all in a compact wrist watch form factor.

So basically it is an iPod Nano on your wrist with more features. Not only could it be considered better than a Nano, but its 2 and 4 gigabyte capacities are cheaper than the Nano, with the two capacity’s of MP4 Watch being priced at $92 and $118 respectively.

Introducing my favorite gadget; the MP4 watch. Made by Thanko, the MP4 watch sits comfortably on your wrist, and like the title suggest, it plays all your mp4 video files and more. An mp4 watch should come as no surprise since they’ve been around or mostly in concept, but this watch caught my eye because of its design. The Thanko MP4 watch has a 4 X 4 cm screen with excellent resolution and the most impressive spec is the 2gb of internal storage capacity. The 2gb storage should come in handy for those graduation videos that you value and the excursion videos we love to brag about.

For all you music lovers it also stores and plays mp3s. Additional features include voice memos, which are saved in mp3 format, so it’s excellent for listing to your music files and important audio. If someone ever doubts you just say you have it on video or on audio and they will deny it. Then, flip your wrist and play your music or video file as proof. The MP4 watch is also compatible with pictures files so you can store and view your photos and did I mention the most important function; it displays the time. There are two version of Thanko’s MP4 watch, the 1gb for $189.00 and the 2gb for $249.00 Does an alarm clock function matter when you have a multimedia viewer on your wrist? I don’t think so.

Price: 1gb $189 and 2gb $249

Sitting comfortably under the N-series moniker umbrella parasol damn this metaphor, Nokia is keen to stress the multimedia capabilities of each model. First up is the N91, an update of the hard-drive toting iPod competitor – this time round it’s packing 8gb of storage and a Darth Vader-style black casing, support for the A2DP Bluetooth wireless headphones standard and a great range of music files (MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WAV/M4A/WMA). Shortly behind it is the N73, capable of handling 2gb of storage for both audio and images from its 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss autofocus lens, with the N70 bringing up the rear; 1gb of storage and a 2 megapixel camera with 20x digital zoom and LED flash.

Well here you have them, images of the Zune in the wild. These spies risked their lives to take these images for our viewing pleasure. Sure they’re not the best quality, but do we care? Absolutely not. As blurry as the shot with the wireless setting is, it’s a gem. In the past four years, I’ve yet to see or hope to see an iPod with that menu item. Nor is there built-in radio receiver on the iPod. The last picture is the most interesting of all, revealing a docking port of some sort. So you can bet on lots of Zune accessories to come.

With no fees, no conversion and no hassle, the Recorder 2 utilizes the screens of these devices to playback your recorded video. It records onto an S/D memory card that can be slipped into the smart phone or cell phone for instant viewing of your favorite shows.

The Recorder 2 makes TV watching more accommodating for its viewers. Other portable recorders with built-in hard drives and color screens cost $400 or more, but the Recorder 2 retails for $159.99.

NEUROS ADDS MULTICARD SLOT TO RECORDER 2 FOR IMPROVED EASE-OF-USE WITH SMARTPHONES, PDA’S AND OTHER PORTABLES

Chicago, August 16, 2006 – Neuros Technology, a leader in portable media devices, has enhanced their MPEG-4 Recorder 2 by adding a multicard slot to the unit’s hardware. The new “Neuros Recorder 2 Plus” can record live TV, movies, and other video content directly onto SD, miniSD, microSD and MMC memory cards, allowing instant video playback on smart phones, cell phones and PDAs without the use of a card adaptor. Like the Recorder 2, the Recorder 2 Plus can also record directly onto duo memory sticks, compact flash (CF) cards and microdrives.

The Recorder 2 and the Recorder 2 Plus record video content from sources such as the TV, DVD player, cable box, DVR, gaming console and camcorder. “We continually improve our products in response to the wants and needs of our customers”, said Neuros Technology CEO, Joe Born. “With virtually all new smart phones and PDA’s being video capable, and with many of these devices accepting cards other than duo memory stick and CF, the need to support other memory cards was something we heard loud and clear.”

Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 remains the best way to get recorded video content on many different handheld devices. Both recorders allow video playback on devices like the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), 5th generation iPod, Motorola Q, Treo 700w and the RAZR V3 to name a few.
