Kodak and major Hollywood studios strike film supply agreement

Kodak and major Hollywood studios strike film supply agreement

The six big Hollywood studios have struck an agreement with Kodak that will have the latter company provide the film used for both TV and movies. It's no surprise Kodak is pushing for film to remain a relevant -- and integral -- part of the entertainment industry, and as such it has been in talks with everyone involved, ranging from indie artists to major production companies. With these agreements in place, Kodak is free to keep producing film for motion pictures while dabbling in its other endeavors.

Star Wars standalone flick eyeing Felicity Jones as lead

We've known for a while that Disney is planning to introduce standalone Star Wars movies, and last summer word surfaced that one of those movies will be directed by Josh Trank. Also on board as director for a standalone Star Wars film is Gareth Edwards, and tipped to star as the female lead for his movie in particular is Felicity Jones, perhaps best known at the moment for her role in The Theory of Everything and the new movie True Story.

LEGO Avengers SHIELD Helicarrier revealed: very massive

LEGO Avengers SHIELD Helicarrier revealed: very massive

To be entirely clear up front, this model does NOT reflect what we're about to see in the Avengers: Age of Ultron film. Instead, this is a set made based on the first Avengers film, already released in theaters and long since placed on Blu-ray, DVD, etc. This particular set also reminds us that there's more than one scale at which LEGO sets are built - this one contains several super tiny minifigs (called MICROfigures) that allow this set to exist on a scale that's reasonable for the average builder.

Ghostbusters cast tipped: Melissa McCarthy’s on board, others in talks

The cast for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot has been tipped, and among it all is word that Melissa McCarthy -- known to have been in talks for one of the lead roles -- has signed a deal and is on-board. A trio of others have also been tipped as being in talks to sign on, with the four of them ultimately being destined to assume roles as the newest collective of ghost-foiling comrades. If all goes as planned, the movie will enter production some time this summer after a relatively long -- and sometimes troubled -- development phase.

Fantastic 4 reboot trailer: showing real promise

Fantastic 4 reboot trailer: showing real promise

The same studio that brought you the X-Men movies is giving a bit of a reboot to the Fantastic Four. The first couple of Fantastic Four (or Fantastic 4, if you prefer) films didn't do so hot - the actor who played Johnny Storm left the project to become Captain America with Marvel, if that's any indicator - now it's time to give the title a kick in the pants. Instead of continuing to roll with the same cast and the same plot, 20th Century Fox is bringing heat with a "re-imagining" of the team.

New animated ‘Jetsons’ movie in the works from Warner Bros

The last time we saw The Jetsons, the family from the '60s cartoon set in the future, on the big screen was way back in 1990. 25 years later, and it looks like Warner Bros. is ready to give the series another chance, as Variety has reported that the studio just hired writer Matt Lieberman to put together a new script. A live-action Jetsons movie is said to have talked about for years, but this is believed to be a different project and will most certainly be animated.

All four will be small budget movies, and as of right now there are no solid dates for when they'll come around.

DreamWorks Animation reveals restructuring plan, will nix 500 jobs

DreamWorks Animation has produced some popular movies, but the company itself has been facing some struggles for a while, and now it seems it has a plan in place to address that. Unfortunately, according to a recent announcement by the company, that plan involves a restructuring that will require 500 jobs to be cut. When precisely those jobs will be nixed hasn't been detailed, though it seems it will be taking place in the relatively near future. In addition, the company will be shifting its creative focus, and that'll mean fewer movies.

Theater Mode will auto-silence your phone at the movies

Theater Mode will auto-silence your phone at the movies

Microsoft has patented a feature for their phones that'll make the whole process of going to the movie theater a lot easier. Not that it's supremely difficult to turn your phone off before a movie begins, but the Microsoft patent that's popped up today will make entering the movie theater the switch. You'll have Normal Mode and Theater Mode - kind of like Airplane Mode, but switched on automatically, right when you walk in the door - and how dare you think you should have sound on your phone during The Hobbit.

Steve Jobs biopic begins filming in his childhood garage

Earlier this week saw film crews setting up at the childhood home of Steve Jobs in Los Altos, California to begin shooting the new biographic movie based on the Apple co-founder. With filming scheduled to take place in the house's garage on Friday and Saturday, crew members could be seen redecorating to make it appear as it did almost 40 years ago when Jobs and Steve Wozniak worked inside building the first Apple computers, with old Bob Dylan posters prominently hanging from the walls.
