Interstellar’s black hole code leads to real science

Interstellar’s black hole code leads to real science

To achieve the effect of a black hole in the film Interstellar, Christopher Nolan worked with real physicist Kip Thorne to depict scientifically-sound images. Thorne and a team at Double Negative Visual Effects worked to create a new code to solve the equation for visualizing light beams as seen from a viewer as they approach a black hole. This has never been done before. While previous studies have been performed at great distances and with light rays, this system bundled light beams together to create an image that was realistic, beautiful, and scientifically sound.

Kanye West “YEEZY BOOST” sneakers released in technical video

If you though a pair of sneakers could never warrant a nationwide live video event hosted by an international pop star, you were wrong. Kanye West has just run an event just like that - with live feeds being sent to theaters in several cities across the United States. And the subject matter - they're not embedded with Bluetooth, nor are they able to check your steps. They are, on the other hand, designed by and endorsed by Kanye West himself. For many consumers, that's more than enough reason to want a pair or two or three.

Chris Pratt visits sick children as Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star-Lord

If the release of the second Jurassic World trailer during the Super Bowl proved anything, it's that actor Chris Pratt is Hollywood's current go-to leading man. But he's also one heck of a cool guy, and his Super Bowl bet with Captain America actor Chris Evans show why. Pratt and Evans together visited the Christopher’s Haven children’s hospital last week, except Pratt went in full Star-Lord costume, the character he played in superhero movie Guardians of the Galaxy.

The six big Hollywood studios have struck an agreement with Kodak that will have the latter company provide the film used for both TV and movies. Star Wars standalone flick eyeing Felicity Jones as lead

We've known for a while that Disney is planning to introduce standalone Star Wars movies, and last summer word surfaced that one of those movies will be directed by Josh Trank. LEGO Avengers SHIELD Helicarrier revealed: very massive

LEGO Avengers SHIELD Helicarrier revealed: very massive

To be entirely clear up front, this model does NOT reflect what we're about to see in the Avengers: Age of Ultron film. Instead, this is a set made based on the first Avengers film, already released in theaters and long since placed on Blu-ray, DVD, etc. This particular set also reminds us that there's more than one scale at which LEGO sets are built - this one contains several super tiny minifigs (called MICROfigures) that allow this set to exist on a scale that's reasonable for the average builder.

Ghostbusters cast tipped: Melissa McCarthy’s on board, others in talks

The cast for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot has been tipped, and among it all is word that Melissa McCarthy -- known to have been in talks for one of the lead roles -- has signed a deal and is on-board. A trio of others have also been tipped as being in talks to sign on, with the four of them ultimately being destined to assume roles as the newest collective of ghost-foiling comrades. If all goes as planned, the movie will enter production some time this summer after a relatively long -- and sometimes troubled -- development phase.

Fantastic 4 reboot trailer: showing real promise

Fantastic 4 reboot trailer: showing real promise

The same studio that brought you the X-Men movies is giving a bit of a reboot to the Fantastic Four. The first couple of Fantastic Four (or Fantastic 4, if you prefer) films didn't do so hot - the actor who played Johnny Storm left the project to become Captain America with Marvel, if that's any indicator - now it's time to give the title a kick in the pants. Instead of continuing to roll with the same cast and the same plot, 20th Century Fox is bringing heat with a "re-imagining" of the team.

New animated ‘Jetsons’ movie in the works from Warner Bros

The last time we saw The Jetsons, the family from the '60s cartoon set in the future, on the big screen was way back in 1990. 25 years later, and it looks like Warner Bros. is ready to give the series another chance, as Variety has reported that the studio just hired writer Matt Lieberman to put together a new script. A live-action Jetsons movie is said to have talked about for years, but this is believed to be a different project and will most certainly be animated.
