Star Wars spinoff films focusing on origins: franchise “evergreen”

Walt Disney Co. chief financial officer Jay Rasulo spoke up this week about the vast possibilities in the near future for Star Wars. Whilst speaking on the assets Disney currently has in tow at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference 2013, Rasulo made clear that there's really no end to the possibilities with where the company could go with the Star Wars universe. In speaking on new licensing deals, rights deals, and everything in-between, Rasulo described Star Wars as a true "evergreen property" whose value does not diminish.

Entertainment to be appearing as a the first in a series of films coming soon (or soonish). This series of movies will begin by focusing on the adventures of the fictitious book's fictitious author: Newt Scamander, and will be neither a prequel nor a sequel to any of the Harry Potter books or movies.

While Matt Damon has - on more than one occasion - suggested that he's not interested in returning to the Bourne film series, it would appear that this week he may be turning a cheek. Reports from Twitch suggest that Damon is in talks with Universal Studios to bring the Bourne character back to the film series - just so long as the next picture is directed by Paul Greengrass. The films The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) were also directed by Paul Greengrass, if you did not know - those are also the two most successful films of the series thus far.
