No TRON 3, say insider sources

No TRON 3, say insider sources

Now we will never know if Flynn really (still) lives. Barely two months since it seemed almost guaranteed that there will be a third film from the geek favorite TRON franchise, Disney suddenly pulls the rug from under it, at least according to anonymous sources. Just as TRON 3, for lack of a better way to call it, has never really been official, it is now also unofficially dead. And while no definite reason has been handed out, some fingers are being pointed in the direction of Disney's most recent sci-fi flick, Tomorrowland.

‘IT’ movie’s future uncertain with director Cary Fukunaga’s exit

The upcoming movie to be based on Stephen King's chilling and bizarre novel IT is now on shaky ground, with the flick's director Cary Fukunaga abandoning the project. Fukunaga has enjoyed success with his work on True Detective, but his name won't be attached to New Line's rendition of King's book -- if the movie happens at all, at this point (it's likely another director will be found, but how long that'll take is anyone's guess). The reasons aren't officially known, but anonymous sources have teased possibilities.

World of Warcraft movie: first look at Orgrim the Orc

The movie based on Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft really is happening despite how long fans have been hearing about it without any results. It'll be arriving next summer (yes, there's an entire more year of waiting left), but we've finally been given some sort of tangible look at the film, and it's in the form of a still from the movie. In it there's Orgrim the orc, and he's looking particularly, well, orc-like and unamused. Gallery after the jump!

8-bit Captain America: The Winter Solider reminds of the Nintendo days

8-bit Captain America: The Winter Solider reminds of the Nintendo days

Growing up in the 80s, video games were at the start terrible graphically. We thought they looked fantastic at the time, but for the most part they were terrible and we just didn’t know any better. Fast forward several years to the Nintendo/Sega days and we had some cool 8-bit and 16-bit graphics to enjoy on several different consoles.

Pixar co-founder says smartphone, GoPro filmmaking are the future

It’s already happening on a small scale, but mobile videography just got a huge nod from Pixar co-founder John Lasseter. Speaking on a panel for ‘The New Audience: Moviegoing in a Connected World’ to an audience at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Lasseter said smartphone videography and GoPros are the future of film making. Some films, like the independent ‘Romance in NYC’, have been filmed entirely on iPhone, and released into major film festivals; it’s likely just the start, too.

Avengers: Infinity War to be shot entirely with new IMAX 2D cameras

The movie “Avengers: Infinity War”, both the first and the second parts, will be filmed entirely using IMAX cameras, making them the first two movies to do so. The announcement came from IMAX today, which has revealed that the movies’ directors Anthony and Joe Russo will be using the recently revealed IMAX 2D digital camera. We’d previously heard that the Russos were slated to get access to the cameras, and that about 15 minutes of “Captain America: Civil War” will be filmed using them.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer rehashed in 16-bit stylings

Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer rehashed in 16-bit stylings

The Internet can’t get enough of modern media being turned into 16-bit masterpieces. We’ve seen numerous examples via the always wonderful (and somewhat disingenuously named) 8-bit Cinema, for example, and some have even taken to creating philosophy videos in fun pixelated stylings. It’s no surprise, then, that someone has created a rendition of the latest Star Wars movie’s trailer rehashed as a 16-bit video game, bringing back memories of playing Star Wars games on the SNES. Video after the jump!

Tom Hardy wants to play Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’

It's no secret that some actors have pushed to take on the roles of iconic superheroes (and super villains), and now Tom Hardy can be counted among them. He has had many notable roles in popular movies over the years, and now he's pining for his own slot in the Marvel universe -- he will take just about anything he can get (within reason), it seems, but he is particularly interested in the role of "The Punisher", the anti-hero who brings about his own sense of justice to the streets.

Marvel announced the addition this afternoon, with the movie’s producer Kevin Feige praising the move. Freeman has a long list of movies and shows under his belt, and this latest one looks to be just as promising as the past Captain America movies. More on the news after the jump!

Indiana Jones movie confirmed as inbound

We’ve known for a while now that another Indiana Jones movie could come about. Back in February, for example, word surfaced that Steven Spielberg was interested in directing a new Indiana Jones movie, and some voiced hopes that Chris Pratt would take up the role previously held by Harrison Ford. Disney got the rights to the franchise back in 2013, and all signs have been pointing toward a future movie. Now word from Lucasfilm’s president has confirmed that we can expect a new film.

Zoolander 2: Justin Bieber revealed as cast member

In early March, Paramount revealed that there would be a Zoolander 2 movie in a wonderful way — by having Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller take to the floor at the Paris Fashion Week show in full character garb. The movie won’t be arriving until February 12 of next year, but we’ve been slowly hearing bits and pieces about what we can expect. This week the newest bit of information surfaced this week in the form of a picture fired off on Instagram: Justin Bieber has joined the cast.

Sony is making a Jump Street and Men in Black crossover movie

This past December, the Sony hack led to emails being revealed that spoke of a Jump Street and Men in Black crossover movie. The company, obviously, didn’t confirm the information, but fast-forward a few months and we have now got word that, yes, the movie previously leaked will indeed be happening. It is an unusual enough movie that it provoked surprise when word of its first arose, and now doubly so now that we know it’s a real project.
