Verizon Wireless and Motorola have announced a new handset called the Entice W766. The handset is a clamshell design that is centered on one-touch access to popular features like music. The clamshell form factor may be old school looking in today’s touchscreen, tablet -style market but the device has the features you expect in a modern feature phone.

Motorola have been previously tipped to be putting many of their cellular eggs in one Android-shaped basket, but could they be planning an initial range of 10 devices within the next six to ten months?  That’s the prediction of Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry, who expects the beleaguered cellphone manufacturer to push out handsets with end-user pricing ranging from just $39 to $399.

Archos’ new PMP isn’t the only Android gadget SlashGear has been playing with recently. Last night saw the launch of the European version of Motorola’s first Android smartphone, the Motorola DEXT. Debuted last week as the Motorola CLIQ in the US, the QWERTY slider smartphone is set to arrive exclusively on Orange in the UK and France; so far all the carrier has said is “early October”, but SlashGear was told that the official release date is somewhere between the 5th and the 9th of October.

The Bluetooth headset market has split in recent years, with the budget end of the market being served by low-cost, simple devices for $50 or under, and the high-end packing complex noise-reduction and DSP for $100 upward.  Into that fray steps Motorola, whose Endeavor HX1 headset packs military-type bone conduction in order – they claim – to completely vanquish background noise.  After the cut, check out the full SlashGear review and why we reckon the HX1 isn’t quite ready for the urban battlefield.

We’re still waiting for official word from Motorola and T-Mobile in the US as to when the new CLIQ Android smartphone will land, but that hasn’t stopped the manufacturer’s UK arm from getting a little more specific.  The Motorola DEXT – which is how the handset will be branded outside the US – has been confirmed to arrive on Orange UK in early September, with preordering expected to begin on September 22nd.

After announcing the Motorola CLIQ with MOTOBLUR yesterday, we grabbed some hands-on time with the new Android smartphone and persuaded one of the company’s demo team to give us a ten minute walkthrough of its capabilities.  There’s plenty to like about this distinctive new addition to the Android stable; we didn’t have as much time to play as we’d have liked, but our early impression is that the keyboard is well made, sturdy and tactile, and the capacitive display responsive and accurate.

As promised, Motorola have announced their first Android device, the MOTOCLIQ, at the Mobilize conference in San Francisco today.  The Motorola CLIQ will be an exclusive for T-Mobile in the USA and go on sale before the holidays; it has a 3.1-inch HVGA 320 x 480 touchscreen, 3G, WiFi and a flip-out QWERTY keyboard.  Meanwhile the new MOTOBLUR system syncs contacts, messages, feeds, photos and more from Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Gmail, corporate email Last.fm and more, putting all of the new information on the smartphone’s homescreen.

Motorola WiMAX CPEI 775Motorola has announced two new WiMAX products, a desktop base-station which shares WiMAX over WiFi and supports VoIP – the Motorola CPEi 725 – and a USB dongle, the USBw 200.  The two products – which will go on sale via WiMAX carriers, rather than directly to consumers – enable both deskbound and mobile workers to take advantage of the next-gen high speed networks slowly spreading across the US.

The CPEi 725 is perhaps the most interesting of the two new products, and has twin WiMAX antennas to support the 2.5GHz band.  As well as WiFi it has an analog voice adapter port for plugging in a handset and using the WiMAX connection for VoIP calls.  As for the WiFi side of the equation, there are MIMO antennas for improved coverage.

Alternatively, the Motorola USBw 200 is a USB dongle intended for a single user.  It will be available in 2.3, 2.5 and 3.5GHz versions, and has a “power boost” system for better connectivity with reduced draw; in fact, it requires just 1.5W, which means the notebook you’re using it with should last even longer.

Another week has come and gone leaving us with memories and a hoard of cool stories to throw your way for weekend reading in case you missed them over the week. An Asus 900HA netbook was hacked into a touchscreen slate on Monday and we really liked it. DIY gear is so cool, especially when it turns out this good. Monday also brought some details on the Blackberry Storm 2 piezo touchscreen tech. We really hope its better than the original Storm.
