Motorola XOOM pre-order at Best Buy: February 24 release

Motorola's XOOM is on track to be the first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet commercially available, with Best Buy stores now accepting pre-orders of the 10.1-inch slate ahead of its retail release on this coming Thursday, February 24. Priced at $799.99 complete with embedded Verizon 3G broadband - and set for a 4G update later in the year - the XOOM is also being offered with a range of accessories.

Details of Microsoft's various XOOM models have been released, with the initial Verizon version of the slate up against the WiFi-only MZ604 and HSPA MZ601/MZ603 versions. Meanwhile, Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha has defended the $799 pricing of the 32GB Verizon XOOM MZ600, confirmed earlier this week, saying that it's the potential for 4G that makes the Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet more valuable than Apple's iPad.

Majority of CIOs surveyed are buying tablets for employees

Morgan Stanley's latest report on corporate technology development reveals a very interesting statistic that shows the impact tablets are having on corporate America.  According to the suvey of 50 enterprise CIOs, 21 percent are already involved in widespread tablet purchases for employees and another 51 percent are expected to begin doing so within the next twelve months. That's a whopping 67% marketshare for tablets in corporate America.

Honeycomb was shaping up so well. CES 2011 saw several new slates debut and look to offer solid competition to the iPad, and then Google's Android 2.3 launch event last week left us even more confident in the tablet-centric build.
