What looks to be the new Motorola XOOM LTE tablet has just passed through the FCC today, signaling an imminent launch. This is good news for some but also upsetting for original XOOM customers still waiting for the 4G LTE upgrade. The FCC documents list the device only as IHDP56LU2 but reveals several interesting details on what could be the Motorola XOOM 2.

Motorola cuts Xoom WiFi price to $499
The last time we talked about a price cut for the Motorola Xoom was back in April when the tablet got a price cut in the UK to £479.99. The Xoom didn’t exactly sell like Motorola had hoped in the US or in the UK. The tablet was overpriced in some geek's opinions and just couldn't match the iPad and shoppers didn’t buy in volume. PlayBook returns “much higher” than XOOM tips retail source [Update: RIM responds]
RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook may not be the sales success analysts insisted, it seems, with reports that the 7-inch tablet is being returned at a higher pace than the Motorola XOOM. According to a BGR source at a "major retailer", sales of the PlayBook at that particular store missed internal targets by more than 90-percent.

Novatel Expedite E362 LTE modem gets Verizon 4G approval: Next stop XOOM?
Novatel Wireless has become the first modem manufacturer to get its embedded LTE module certified by Verizon Wireless for use on the carrier's growing 4G LTE network, with the Expedite E362 also offering backward compatibility to 2G/3G GSM and CDMA networks. Interestingly, as well as working with various flavors of Windows, the miniPCI modem also supports Android (from Froyo to Honeycomb), meaning this could well end up being the LTE card that slots into Motorola's XOOM 4G.

No Android 3.1 for WiFi/non-Verizon XOOM for “several weeks” [Updated]
Motorola's XOOM tablet will get its Android 3.1 update this week, although only if you have the Verizon 3G version. Motorola has confirmed that the Verizon slate will start seeing the OTA update in phased release sometime in the next seven days, though if you have another carrier's version or indeed the WiFi-only XOOM, be prepared to wait longer.

Apple’s iPad Owned By 82 Percent Of U.S. Tablet Users, Yet The Daily Loses $10 Million
A recent study conducted by the Nielsen company has revealed several interesting numbers on current tablet usage in the U.S. and in particular about the usage of the Apple iPad. The survey polled only tablet owners in the U.S. and discovered that 82 percent of them owned an Apple iPad. This number is a huge lead ahead of competing tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Motorola XOOM.
