Best Buy had published an ad on their site for taking pre-orders on the Motorola Xoom listing it at $1200. This seemed way over-priced, double that of an entry-level iPad, and much more than the anticipated but already hefty $800 price point. However, today, it seems that Best Buy has pulled the ad. What's going on?
We have been excited about the hardware inside the Xoom tablet from Motorola and the fact that it will be one of the first Android 3.0 tablets to hit the market. We are far from excited about the prices that have turned up with the Xoom showing an $800 MSRP at Best Buy. Europeans wanting to get their hands on the Xoom will be able to do so before you know it.
Back when we thought the Motorola XOOM might be $800, we wondered if the company had priced the Android 3.0 Honeycomb slate out of contention. Now, with a new Best Buy listing offering the 10.1-inch Tegra 2 tablet for $1,199.99, we're trying to figure out whether Motorola actually want to sell even a single unit.
No glamor shots or details, but what looks to be Motorola's WiFi-only version of the XOOM has been spotted crossing the FCC. WirelessGoodness caught the listing - complete with the usual confidentiality request - in which Motorola submits a WiFi a/b/g/n tablet with Bluetooth for testing.

Honeycomb was shaping up so well. CES 2011 saw several new slates debut and look to offer solid competition to the iPad, and then Google's Android 2.3 launch event last week left us even more confident in the tablet-centric build. Could Motorola and Verizon bring the whole party crashing down with silly pricing for the Motorola XOOM however? With a leaked Best Buy advert tipping a sales price of $799.99, that may well be the case.

US release dates for the Motorola XOOM Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet - which we spent more hands-on time with earlier this week, at Google's Honeycomb launch event - have been confirmed, after a regional Best Buy Facebook page prematurely listed the schedule. According to the Grand Rapids store, the XOOM will drop on February 24, while the HTC ThunderBolt will be here even sooner.
