Motorola teases smartwatch later in 2014

Motorola is working on a smartwatch for launch in 2014, the company has confirmed, with execs confirming the new wearable during a press conference at Mobile World Congress today. Details on the upcoming gadget are scant, but Motorola did say that it would be aiming to address "consumer issues" such as the style of the wearable tech, and the longevity of its battery, two factors that many have argued are still widely unsolved in the smartwatch segment.

MOTOACTV Golf Edition is under-par and over-priced

Could golf be the killer app for smart watches? Motorola certainly hopes so; its MOTOACTV impressed reviewers well enough but its price tag has dissuaded all but the most enthusiastic of wrist-computer buyers. Now there's the MOTOACTV Golf Edition, a special collaboration with PGA Tour winner Bubba Watson that offers tracking data for 20,000 courses worldwide, and allows golfers to compare their performance online with that of pros.

Now we're seeing several watches of a slightly similar build come through - back in December of 2010 we saw the Sony Ericsson LiveView, just this June the first we got to see a glimpse of the Tracy XL in part of its lovely glory, then even so recent as this morning we're privy to some hands-on feels for the WIMM Wearable Platform, again running Android.
