Despite the shocking news this morning that Google is purchasing Motorola for 12.5 billion, the handset maker managed to unveil a new handset today that's a successor to its rugged smartphone called the DEFY, which we've had our hands-on in the past. This new handset is called the DEFY+ and maintains much of the same exterior with the ability to withstand extreme conditions. But inside, it now sports Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and faster 1GHz processor.

Dunk it in! This morning over at Android Community (or was it late last night?) Vincent reviewed the Motorola Defy - a rugged piece of machinery that'll get wet and keep on clickin. There's some 3D modeling and studying of flying snakes on SlashGear, a hands on with the Marvell Android tablet, and a gaming computer employing cooled liquid to get it down to some sub-zero temps. BOGO at T-Mobile USA, Buy One Smartphone or Samsung Galaxy Tab, Get a Smartphone Free!
Not just ANY smartphone, of course, and there's a catch: Starting Black Friday, new and existing customers signing up for a T-Mobile FAMILY PLAN with a 2yr agreement and purchase any of several featured smartphones (including the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, or the Samsung Galaxy Tab) get a fatured smartphone or "affordable Android handset" for free! Motorola DEFY first-impressions [Video]
T-Mobile’s Motorola DEFY has dropped with a bump onto the SlashGear test bench, but we’re not too concerned: after all, this particular smartphone is one of the few ruggedized Android handsets around. You wouldn’t necessarily know it to look at it, however, since Motorola has managed to avoid the over-rubberized look so many rugged devices suffer from. Still, we thought we should get the main challenges out of the way first, so check out the wet entrance the DEFY makes after the cut.

T-Mobile USA has confirmed that the rugged Motorola DEFY will arrive on its network from November 3 2010. Priced at just $99.99 with a new, two-year agreement, the DEFY has a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera and runs Android 2.1 with the company's latest MOTOBLUR enhancements.

T-Mobile adding Android WiFi calling support with DEFY and myTouch
T-Mobile USA has announced that it will be bringing WiFi calling to Android, with the VoIP functionality rolling out over the coming months. Powered by Kineto’s Smart Wi-Fi app, the feature will allow for voice calls and SMS messages to be routed over WiFi b/g/n connections, though so far T-Mobile is yet to confirm exactly which handsets will support the service.

T-Mobile USA and Motorola have announced the Motorola DEFY, exclusive to the carrier and - bizarrely - making its public debut on the Oprah Winfrey Show today. Packing a 3.7-inch WVGA scratch-resistent touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera and waterproof/dustproof casing, the DEFY was first spotted in the UK at the start of the month.
