Though it doesn’t quite leave light ribbons behind it yet, the vehicle the folks at Lit Motors have created here is the closest you’re going to get to Kevin Flynn’s “vintage” white cycle from Tron: Legacy without entering The Grid yourself. What you’re looking at here is more than an exercise in aesthetics, too, it’s a fully-enclosed two-passenger electric motorcycle which is able to fully self-regulate its balance automatically. Kick it in the side just like you would that robotic dog you’ve all seen videos of – it’ll right itself just the same!

This motorcycle also doesn’t have the same crossbar you’re used to when you think of a motorcycle, instead you’ve got a steering wheel, and two full-sized doors on either side of you, the whole vehicle enclosed to the point that you could drive it in a bit of hail without trouble. Of course you’ll get a few dents if you do that, but still, you can do it! This vehicle also employs KERS Kinetic Energy Recovery System in addition to both an aerodynamic shape and a low rolling resistance.

With KERS, whenever you use your brakes, that kinetic energy will be stored and used to assist in spinning up the flywheels. The flywheels sit near the bottom of the vehicle and both provide stability for the vehicle and deliver power to the drivetrain when you’re accelerating. Quite efficient! The C-1′s flywheel stabilization system allows you to balance in essentially any situation, as shown quite clearly in this lovely video:

You can currently reserve yourself a vehicle with Lit Motors for a fully refundable $250 USD deposit, 25 of which have been placed so far. The vehicle is currently set at a price point of a cool $24,000, but the team hopes to get the price down to a much more reasonable (depending on who you’re talking to) $16,000 USD once production is fully underway in 2014. I’ll take one!

Automotive is a rather quick growing category on not only our tech blog but the whole internet world’s tech radar – and with products like this Stormtrooper Motorcycle Suit made of leather by UD Replicas for the real-life wearing and crashing in of bike riders everywhere, it’s not tough to see why! What you’re looking at here is two options for the Star Wars and moto-bike lover in your life, one classic white-shelled “Imperial white” stormtrooper and one black Shadow Trooper full set of grade-A cowhide leather. You won’t find a fold out of place nor a detail undone here, folks, and you’ll certainly be safer on your bike than a “real” stormtrooper is in the blaster pistol smoke.

UD Replicas have what they say is “setting a new standard in leather garment manufacturing” with their classic Star Wars imperial armor sets. And these aren’t just costumes, folks, each set is totally strong as you need it to be – built-in CE-approved body armor keeping you protected from the elements including that ever-present pavement that you may be prone to slapping into should your speeder malfunction. Rebels are prone to make that happen when you’re chilling on the dark side, if you know what I mean.

You’ve got adjustable biceps, thighs, shins, and forearm leather for a customized fit, and snap buttons on the cuffs and wrist zipper to keep you in a familiar space. You’ve got a removable quilted cotton lining, and a waist belt that’s non-removable near the “cleverly” hidden main front zipper with three main access points for ease of use. The jacket and the pants zip together to make essentially a one-piece body suit, and the CE-approved bits include body armor in the shoulders, forearms/elbow, thighs and knee/shin armor, and a back spine protector. Each of these pieces are removable for day-to-day off-cycle wear.

The car industry is going green at a fast pace with more hybrids and full EVs coming to market each year. The motorcycle industry is also going electric as well, but at as slower pace than the auto industry. A motorcycle company called evolve is talking up three new all electric motorcycles that are available now. The bikes are more like scooters than a traditional motorcycle and are meant for use in urban areas.

The three models include the titanium, neon, and helium with the titanium being the top of the line model. The helium has a 1500w electric motor, a 40ah battery and a 40 mile range. It can charge in 2.5 hours. The scooter has a 40 mph top speed and sells for $2,900. The neon is the next up the line and sells for $3,900. It packs in a larger 3000w electric motor, a 60ah battery, and has a range of 50 miles.

The scooter also needs 2.5 hours to charge and has a top speed of 50mph. The last in the line is the high-end titanium model with a 5000w electric motor. The battery is a 60ah unit and it has a 60 mile driving range. The charge time is 2.5 hours and it has a top speed of 70mph. the titanium will sell for $5,400. The driving range and top speed will naturally vary with terrain and other factors.

There are a bunch of green electric cars on the market today and a few electric motorcycles. The thing that most of those electric motorcycles have in common is that they have a very modern and racy look to them. Take the Mission R electric motorcycle we have talked about before, it looks like a racing motorcycle. Some will like that style and some won’t. If you are more the cruiser sort that wants a bike with old school style, the new bike from Orphiro may be your ride.

The bike looks like one of the old Harley or Britt bikes from the 60′s to me. It’s not totally old-fashioned looking but has a retro style that so many cars are using today. The company Orphiro is Dutch and calls the design of the bike a wide-body cruiser. It crams the lithium-ion batteries inside that wide body. The electric motors have a total of 72V of power.

The top speed for the bike is 75 mph so it has enough speed to drive on most roads without being run over or getting the rider the finger for going to slow. The driving range is pretty short though at only 60 miles. I wonder how fast the bike charges. It is set to launch in September of this year at an undisclosed price.

Chris Malloy of Australia has developed a hoverbike that looks strikingly familiar. This is the first generation prototype that has some definite similarities to the science fiction floating cycles seen in the Lucas film. It is not currently in production, but Chris hopes to bring them to market in about a year. The bike is classified as an ultralite, so there is currently no need of a pilot’s license to operate one.

The bike flies via two ducted propellers, one in the front and back. There is no need for a tail rotor, because the propellers spin in opposite directions. The engine is a 1,170 cc 4-stroke that is capable of taking the hoverbike to altitudes of up to 10,000 feet and speeds of up to 173 miles per hour. The bike hasn’t undergone flight and safety testing, so we won’t be surprised if that pushes back the product launch by at least another year.

It looks impressive with its sleek Kevlar coated body, but we are not likely to see any flying around the forest any time soon. Thrill seekers will have to wait a while before they can actually experience the hoverbike for themselves. One concern we have about the bike’s design is the open duct area above the front and rear propellers. It seems like important body parts might accidentally get chopped off if they happen to fall in. The price is estimated to be $40,000, but that is likely to change as we get closer to the actual release.

While this may not be the first “real” TRON: Legacy-inspired light cycle to hit the news, these cycles offer the name of Parker Brothers Choppers behind them. And let’s face it, seeing more real-life light cycles running around, especially those that can actually be driven on the road, is nothing to pass over. After all, deep down inside we all one.

To celebrate the upcoming release of the major motion picture TRON: Legacy from Disney, Parker Brothers Choppers decided to build ten ridiculously exclusive light cycles. Thankfully, each of the bikes are perfectly legal, which means you can drive it around to show off to all of your friends. The bikes are constructed from steel frames, and feature a fiberglass bodywork. Inside, you’ll find a Suzuki TLR-1000 V-twin engine.

It gets better, though. It will cost you $55,000 to get your body on one of these things. You can opt-in for physical gauges, but if you decide that you’d much rather have a digital read-out, they will include an iPad-dock, which will let you put your iPad right there in front of your face, and provide all the essential information while you’re out cruising around. There are only four left, so if you’re interested, you’ll have to hurry. Check out a video below to see the bike for yourself.

Considering how many iPod Touch/iPhone docks that are out there, people might have been wondering where on Earth we might see one pop up next. While the more traditional model, the one that sits on your desk or table, may be the more popular version floating around these days, there’s probably a few Harley-Davidson riders out there that would love to see a docking station on their ride. Thanks to Hell’s Foundry, it looks like your dreams are coming true, thanks to the DashLink.

Hell’s Foundry has announced that their brand new DashLink will be made available soon, and pre-orders have already begun. The DashLink replaces the stock fuel tank, and in the process adds an iPhone/iPod Touch dock that will securely hold your device in place. You’ll be able to use the device in an easily accessible fashion, which will let you check your GPS, listen to music, and whatever else you may need. You won’t have to worry about any wiring being exposed, as the installation makes sure to hide all of it. There’s the standard power connection, but the DashLink will also let you connect your bike’s speakers to the dock as well, making sure you can enjoy your music without headphones. And, thanks to the Bluetooth technology in the iPhone, you can use Bluetooth headsets or headphones, if you prefer.

If you own a FLH or FLT model Harley-Davidson, you’ll be able to control the volume by using the handlebar controls. Hell’s Foundry has also made sure that a power detection tool is in place, making sure that the DashLink is not powered on if the iPhone or iPod Touch is not connected. Once you connect your iDevice, the system will start up, and you’ll be able to use it accordingly. If you’re interested, and you have an FLHT/FLTR or FLHR model that’s from 1996 or newer, then you can go ahead and pre-order now. It will only cost you $400, and it’s due out in January of 2011.

There are plenty of good looking hybrid concepts out there, but Igor Chak’s 2012 Izh Hybrid Motorcycle also tries to slip in some smartphone integration too. Chak envisages the bike – which would pair a traditional 140HP V-Twin gas engine with a 60kw electric motor in the rear hub – hitting 80mpg, but also having radar distance control, proximity sensors for blind-spots, and a massive 3D touchscreen LCD. It’s there that we start to get a little worried.

Concept video after the cut

That LCD is packed full of tech, including WiFi, 4G connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS (ambitious stuff, but which should all be pretty widely available by 2012) and can be hooked up with your Android, iPhone, Symbian or other smartphone for remote use. Chak reckons it’ll also show augmented reality views of what’s ahead of you, overlaying graphics onto a live feed from a front-facing video camera.

Thing is, we’d rather people on high-powered motorbikes were looking directly at the road and not down at an eye-catching 3D display (underneath what looks to be an equally eye-catching instrument cluster). Still, it’s an attractive design and we can’t argue with Chak’s render video below.

If you needed to get someone to stop so you could talk to them, you had to wave your hands until you caught their attention. Thankfully, today you don’t have to rely on hand signals with devices like the new scala rider G4 from Cardo Systems.

The G4 is a Bluetooth intercom system that has something different from other systems on the market. It will allow up to four riders to communicate over the intercom with a range of up to a mile. The devices are full duplex allowing for talking and listening at the same time.

The device can also connect to Bluetooth phones and supports VOX activation, A2DP stereo music and more. The system has a built-in FM radio tuner and can be updated with new firmware via USB. Power for the system comes from a rechargeable Li-Po battery good for ten hours of use. The system fits most 3/4 and full-face helmets and is available for $279.95.

If you are a motorcyclist that likes taking long trips on your bike Garmin has unveiled a new navigation device just for you called the zumo 665.

The device is packed with features and is rugged and water resistant to IPX 7 standards. The device includes a GXM 40 XM antenna that not only allows you to get a subscription to XM satellite entertainment, but also allows the rider access to the XM NavTraffic and NavWeather services.

The device features a 4.3-inch touchscreen that is glove friendly and the PND comes loaded with maps of the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Turn-by-turn driving direction and music can be sent to a headset inside the riders helmet via Bluetooth with A2DP support. The zumo 665 will ship in Q1 for $999.99.

If the Piaggio MP3 leaning-scooter has taken your fancy, but you’d prefer something with a bit more grunt, Nick Schotter should be your first port of call. He’s spent the past 20 years working on the 4MC (4-wheeled motorcycle concept), a bike capable of leaning 40-degrees to each side for super-speedy cornering.

Video demo of the trike after the cut

The prototype currently uses a Yamaha YP400 engine and a DIY frame, which add unnecessary length and weight. Still, it does all that without being as wide as a truck, too; in fact at 58cm the main body of the bike is narrower than many grown-up motorcycles.

Parked up, the hydraulic tilting system means the 4MC doesn’t require a kick-stand, and at low speeds it can be locked upright so as to avoid the need to put your foot down to prevent falling over. Schotter is currently looking for someone to license his IP, and it could end up being Yamaha; the company produced a similarly tilting concept back in 2007.

Last week at Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in New York they were able to unveil the new Victory Motorcycle’s CORE concept bike. Designed by Victory’s lead Industrial Designer, Michael Song, the bike features some great body work with a ton of touring amenities.

The frame is made of an aluminum alloy that consists of five main pieces that houses everything. This concept has very solid brakes as it is powered by the same engine as the 2008 Hammer with 97 HP and 113 lb-ft of torque. True to its name Victory has managed to take out all of the added bloat and create a really amazing concept bike.

Victory Motorcycle claims the “design team felt the name CORE perfectly reflects the essence of this concept motorcycle. It is, in fact, the raw ‘core’ or center of a motorcycle. There is no traditional bodywork; the motorcycle is effectively turned inside-out with its architecture completely exposed. It also accentuates the innovative frame design and the process that is used to make the cast aluminum frame: the molten aluminum is poured into a sand core, which is removed when the casting process is complete.”

We have all asked why take the time, money and effort to build a functional concept, Victory’s Director of Industrial Design, Greg Brew, sums it up best for us. “The fact is a project like CORE is as important to the design team as winning Daytona would be to an engineering team. ‘Pushing the boundaries’ is just another cliché – CORE exists to show the world how dedicated Victory is to the art and science of motorcycle design.”

Tell us what you think about the Victory CORE concept.

That means you get chunky icons suitable for stabbing at even with gloves on, an IPX7-standard waterproof casing, and battery life rated up to 8hrs since you might not be using the Nuvi 510 near a standard 12V car power socket. A range of mounts offer a sturdy place for the 510 to perch no matter the vehicle, as well as providing extras like Bluetooth to connect with motorcycle helmets that have integrated microphones and speakers.

Garmin include topographic, nautical and detailed street mapping, with further maps optional. It accepts microSD cards, has capacity for 1,000 stored locations, and is FM traffic compatible. The Garmin Nuvi 510 is available now, priced at €300 ($376).

The bike, Dreamfit is made for those that are paralyzed from the waist down. Giving many bikers another chance. Darren Lomman modded a Honda CBR250RR so that it will hold the biker in place on the bike even without the use of their legs.

He used custom-molded ergonomic cups which is what holds the biker in place. The cups however, won’t place any pressure on the lower body.

I’ve seen several headsets recently that use bone conduction to get what was said to you, to you, but they were lacking the voice part that goes on your neck for direct connection to your voice box. Now we have a headset that has the voice box part but some dinky little ear bud for the speaker part, when will they marry the two?

I really want to get my Navy S.E.A.L. on with bone conduction and conduction right from my neck for speaking, I mean, imaging the call quality if you had that combo. However, if you are just going for the look, and not the actual effectiveness of such a system, this should do for your next Call of Duty, Splinter Cell, or Ghost LAN party.

It is Bluetooth connected and would be good for situations where you can hear alright, but talking is near impossible, such as in large crowds, on your Motorcycle, or wherever its really windy (which is usually all your mic would pick up). If you want one, its $79, not a bad price to look like a badass (or not).

Check out this nifty little gadget from Parrot! It connects to just about any helmet because it has some pretty flexible mounting options. On the outside you have the mic and the majority of the hardware and then they were ingenious enough to move the speakers to the inside of the helmet and they give you several different options mounting that on the inside of your helmet.

Then, there is some wireless hardware that mounts to your handlebars that allows you to control the MP3 player of your choice, or the built in FM radio, or even better yet the phone functionality. This headset does the normal thing of playing your music and then muting it for the phone calls, but the phone features are where its at.

Once you pair your mobile phone, it will download (and constantly update) the phone book on your mobile phone, and it does two things with it, the first is it allows you to use voice commands to call whoever you want without having to program in voice signatures for all of them. The second is that you can have the device read your phonebook to you one at a time until you find the name you are looking for. All of the media functions and the phone functions are controlled by the device on the handlebar, and obviously, some of the controls are voice controlled. And it looks awesome, they demoed it for us, and it looked really easy to use, and they were smart enough to make the controls on the handle-bar attachment large enough and far enough apart that they could be operated with gloves on.

The Vectrix is the first two-wheeled ZEV (Zero Emissions Vehicle) that combines style and performance. It’s an all-electric maxi-scooter operates at a penny a mile cost. The Vectrix will go from 0-50 in 6.8 seconds with a max speed of 62 MPH and it’s highway legal.

It has a nickel metal hydride battery which offers 40-60 miles per 2-3 hour charge. It has a patented regenerative braking system which redirects energy back into the battery and that helps extend its range by 12%.

Not only is the Vectrix emission free, I can vouch for it’s quietness as I heard nothing when they road it into the ballroom. The Vectrix is available right now and goes for $11,000.

If you feel like you’re not getting your message across with all those crazy drivers out there, this bad boy might be just the thing for you. The site does state that any altercation that comes as a result of the plate flipper they are in no way responsible for.

Just push the button in the cab of your vehicle and give that tailgater a piece of your mind. The plate flipper is $99.99 for your car and $89.99 for your motorcycle. I think I’d get a kick out of slipping one on a tractor, scooter or golf cart, then you can look cool going all of 15 mph.

The Renovatio is the slickest motorcycle design I have ever laid eyes on. It’s a design from Confederate Motor Company hailing from Birmingham, Alabama. Feast your eyes on this V-twin, SFI, 135 hp beast.

Forged of aircraft grade aluminum, titanium, and carbon fiber, the bike is super durable. You might notice the six LED lamps on the front end. All of the lamps and lights are low power consuming LED.

Confederate describes the Renovitio as “original, impacting, alluring and elegant.” I couldn’t have said it any better. It’s only a project design, so there is no pricing information right now. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for a production run.
