Monster says “bully” Apple used MFi as weapon

Monster has accused Apple of bullying, after the Cupertino firm rescinded the headphone manufacturer's license to make iPhone accessories. Apple inherited a lawsuit with Monster after buying Beats Electronics, which had been accused by Monster of shady dealing to cut CEO Noel Lee out of a share of the proceeds of that acquisition. With the lawsuit headed to courts, Monster now says Apple is playing hardball by cutting it out of the MFi program.

Nokia may soon be unveiling a new partnership with Monster Cable to introduce co-branded audio gear. According to leaked marketing graphics obtained by PocketNow, the duo appear to be readying at least one product called the Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset by Monster. This move could be similar to HTC's deal with Monster's Beats Audio line and may help boost appeal for Nokia's first Windows Phones.

iPod shuffle “control chip” not DRM, just more licensing

After speculation that Apple was using the new iPod shuffle 4GB to launch an "authentication chip" which only licensed headphones would offer, Apple themselves and a number of third-party accessory manufacturers have spoken up about the smallest iPod's hardware.  V-moda, Monster Cable and Scosche have all described it as a "control chip", which uses the microphone channel in the four-channel headphones to send multiple commands: play, pause, volume control and more.
