If Monster’s new collaboration with Lady Gaga is a little too extreme in the style stakes for you, then their new entry-level headphones – the Beats Solo – may be more attractive.  Smaller and lighter than the original Beats by Dr. Dre, the new Beats Solo set still has the folding earpiece design but now packs a more compact driver.

After speculation that Apple was using the new iPod shuffle 4GB to launch an “authentication chip” which only licensed headphones would offer, Apple themselves and a number of third-party accessory manufacturers have spoken up about the smallest iPod’s hardware.  V-moda, Monster Cable and Scosche have all described it as a “control chip”, which uses the microphone channel in the four-channel headphones to send multiple commands: play, pause, volume control and more.

Apparently the Irish have odd way to name their silicon goody, but for some reasons, Monster Cables dig it and has announced partnership to collaborate a smart and ultra-thin profile active HDMI cables.

SlashGear had the opportunity to sit down with rapper Ludacris and Monster Music owner Noel Lee at CES today, to discuss the artist’s new Theater of the Mind album which has been remixed in surround sound.  While Monster may be better known for their Cable hardware division, responsible for the Dr.Dre Beats and Beats tour headphones, the company also has an Superdisc audio arm putting out music DVDs in full surround sound.  Company founder Noel Lee is responsible for High Definition Surround, a set of recording, mixing and reproduction techniques to accurately recreate the sound field of an original performance in high definition for 5.1 surround sound.  Check out the full interview after the cut.

acer aspire one 3gWith just a few weeks until CES 2009, we’ve been seeing hints of what tech will be showing its head at the biggest consumer electronics event of the year.  Unsurprisingly, netbooks are taking top billing, with MSI confirming three of them.  In fact the budget ultraportables are selling so well, they bested the ever-popular iPhone 3G in Summer sales.  Acer are sitting pretty in the top spot, with their latest model – a 3G-integrated Aspire One – launching this weekend.

Dr. Dre beats tour review

Monster Cable’s headphone collaboration with Dr. Dre, the Beats, surprised us with their musical prowess back in August.  While celebrity endorsements tend toward the cheesy, and Monster’s products toward the over-priced, we weren’t expecting much; in actual fact, they proved impressively capable.  Now the pair is hoping to do the same for in-ear headphones, with the Beats Tour: can the follow-up muster the same success?
