ASUS have surreptitiously released official photos of their misleadingly-named Eee Monitor, which in actual fact is not merely an LCD display but a full, all-in-one PC.  The machine, available in black and white, will feature an as-yet unconfirmed processor, likely to follow the trend of ASUS’ Eee Box desktop PC and be Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N270.  The screen is believed to be 19-21-inches.

Viewsonic have announced their latest LCD display, the VA2626wm, aimed at the professional on a budget.  Despite being a whopping great 26-inch 1920 x 1200 1080p high-definition panel, with 6,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, the company is only asking for $529.  If the quality they deliver is as good as the press release verbiage would have it, you could be looking at a serious bargain.

NEC have taken the wraps off of the MultiSync EA261WM, a 26-inch desktop LCD monitor with WUXGA resolution.  That means a full 1,920 x 1,200 resolution widescreen panel that, in the EA261WM’s case, boasts a contrast ratio of 1,000:1, 400 cd/m2 brightness and 5ms response time.  Knocking Lenovo’s 22-inch WUXGA ThinkVision L220x Wide into the proverbial cocked-hat, the NEC display takes the top spot for high-resolution.

AOC 2230Fh 22-inch HDTV

By Chris Davies on Friday, Jun 13th 2008 1 Comment

AOC are a brand more traditionally associated with computer monitors, but all that playing with LCD panels seems to have given them a taste for frivolity and their latest display is more home entertainment than home office.  A 22-inch high-definition TV, the AOC 2230Fh combines HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs for the best of work and play.  It’s no terrible compromise, either; a 20,000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms response time is highly respectable.

One of the big benefits of LCD screens over traditional CRT displays was the lower power demands; that’s not to say they’re generally all that frugal, just a little more so.  Now LG are really pushing the eco boat out, with the Flatron W2252TW: a 22-inch monitor that uses 45-percent less energy than others of the same size.

Nintendo Wii gets an LCD monitor

By Chris on Friday, Apr 18th 2008 No Comments

If you stacked up the three current-gen consoles next to each other, you’d notice just how small the Nintendo Wii really is. When I get in a new game, I’ll pack it up in one of my spare laptop bags with all of my controllers because it’s so small. It’s because of the console’s small size that I think it is perfect to be played on the road with its own LCD monitor.

Starting with the projector, it has a 2000:1 contrast ration and 2220 lumens, which means it can be used just about anywhere. Add to that the 720p and 1080i support with its native 800×600 resolution and you’ve got yourself a nice projector. For those with more of an eco friendly mind it also has an ECO mode that saves power, lowers noise pollution, and extends the lamp life, the cost will save some paper too at a meager $499.

Sadly, after reading the description, I don’t believe you get all the gear that is set up on this thing, but you get the odd shaped desk, the monitor stand, the chair, and probably the two audio component boxes, but that seems to be about it. Now, if you work in the audio industry this is great news to you I am sure as I’ve seen some pictures of some audio studios and not only are they quite unattractive, but they also don’t generally look too terribly comfortable.

These new 20.1-inch LCD monitors have a 5000:1 contrast resolution and a 2ms response time. The best part is that you don’t need a new or even good graphics card to push these monitors, just a spare USB port.
