Lenovo has announced its upcoming ThinkVision LT3053p professional monitor. It’s a 30-inch monitor designed for creative professionals tasked with color-critical jobs. The monitor is priced with an expensive $1,599 price-tag and will be released later this month, with an expected ship date being April 18th. It boasts an impressive spec sheet, with a very important feature being that it covers 99% of the Adobe RGB spectrum, and of course 100% of the Standard RGB spectrum.

The Lenovo ThinkVision LT3053p comes equipped with an AH-IPS Panel with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The contrast ratio is 1,000:1 static and 3,000,000:1 dynamic. It offers life-like colors with its 1.07 billion color depth. It has viewing angles of 178 degrees from any direction of the screen. The brightness of the ThinkVision LT3053p can go as high as 300 cd/m2, of course you can adjust it to the brightness you need.

The ThinkVision has an HDMI 1.4, VGA, DVI-D, and a DisplayPort connector to offer you a variety of options to connect the display. It has a 5-slot USB-hub, 2 slots being USB 2.0 and 3 slots being USB 3.0, integrated into it allowing you to connect more peripherals if need be. The display also has a protective hood designed to block sunlight. It has picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture capabilities so you can work without needing a second monitor.

The Lenovo ThinkVision LT3053p is an impressive monitor that should be a great addition to any creative professional’s arsenal, however, its price-tag may be deterring to many. The ThinkVision LT3053p isn’t the only interesting product Lenovo has planned for this year. It is also planning on releasing a 13.3-inch mobile monitor, the Lenovo ThinkVision LT1423p, this year to act as a portable second monitor. Check out our hands-on with the ThinkVision LT1423p here!

This week the folks at Acer have brought on a new H6 series of monitors, made to be the company’s newest and best in both hardware quality and media delivery. These monitors come in two sizes: 21.5-inch and 23-inch, with Full 1080p HP IPS panels delivering viewing angles up to 178 degrees – hot stuff! These two new SKUs will be available immediately if not soon at retailer near you as well as online across the country – have a peek!

With the 21.5-inch (H226HQL) and the 23-inch (H236HL) panels you’ll be working with the ability to tilt in a pretty great way – negative 5 degrees all the way back to 15 degrees – that ain’t half bad for a standard solution! Both display models come with built-in speakers and connectivity via HDMI, DVI, and VGA as well. Expect this to be your everyday connect-everything sort of setup without a doubt.

Borders around these monitors are .08-inch, prompting Acer to call this construction “zero frame.” This next-generation design allows you to see virtually “seamless” picture while you’re rocking and rolling with what Acer calls a “stylish brushed hairline finish” as well. As a bit of a bonus, the stand for these monitors are magnetic too – made perfect for your paperclips (if you still use paper, that is.)

Each of these new monitors comes with a standard three-year warranty as well as a price tag under two bills. The 21.5-inch Acer H226HQL display will be (or already is) available for $149.99 USD MSRP while the 23-inch Acer H236HL display is coming at you for a cool $179.99 USD MSRP. You’ll be grabbing these displays with the full-on Acer eColor Management tool built-in and you’re encouraged to buy a bunch of them, lining them all up in a massive grid on your wall – feel free!

This machine is a 29-inch “ultra-wide” monitor and works with PremierColor technology as well. This display is called “ultra-wide” due to its unique 21:9 aspect ratio, offering up a massively long amount of space to work with. With DisplayPort 1.2.[1] connectivity, you’re also able to chain several monitors together providing a massive extension for your home computer – wild!

Above you’ll see the 30-inch U3104 with newly-minted PremierColor technology, while below you’ll see the ultra-wide 29-inch newest member of the Dell UltraSharp Display family!

On Monday, BenQ announced an addition to its RL Series of gaming monitors: the RL2455HM. This monitor builds on the previous RL2450HT monitor with various enhancements that are said to be the direct result of feedback from the gaming community at large. Of its various offerings, the blazing fast 1ms GTG response time is its most noteworthy feature.

Other specs include two 2-watt internal speakers, and dual HDMI ports for HD connectivity. The video feed can be adjusted to meet gamers’ preferences with a variety of custom controls, including Display Mode, Smart Scaling, and BenQ’s Black eQualizer. The device was made specifically for console gaming.

The monitor features a 60Hz refresh rate, and measures in at 24-inches (16:9 aspect ratio) with full HD resolution and an LED backlight. Contrast is a cool 12 million to 1. According to BenQ, the RL2455HM offers gamers a competitive edge by allowing them to increase brightness without over-exposing white levels; this results in more detail and clarity in dark areas when gaming. The monitor is slated for launch in March at $229.

BenQ’s Director of Retail and e-Commerce Bob Wudek offered this statement. “As the official MLG gaming monitor sponsor, players relied on our RL2450HT to deliver unprecedented levels of accuracy and control in a number of tournaments across the U.S. With the RL2455HM, we’ve taken all the advanced technologies of the RL2450HT, incorporated feedback from MLG pros, and created a powerful gaming monitor. Now home gamers can get the same experience as the pros, enabling an entirely new level of player performance.”

Today things are officially off and running with CES 2013, and what better way to start some announcements from HP then with a host of new Windows 8 PC monitors. HP has a slew of 5 new monitor series. They’ll be featuring impressive LED, IPS, and ProDisplay monitors on the showroom floor this week, and we’ve got all the details so read on below to find out more.

We’ll jump right in as they’ve just announced 5 different monitors this afternoon. The biggest of the bunch coming in at 27-inches is the new HP Envy 27 Monitor. This features a beautiful and vivid 27-inch IPS LCD panel with their thin blade bezel design. It’s also protected in edge-to-edge hardened glass for extra gloss and protection. It features built-in Beats Audio stereo speakers, and a full 1920 x 1080p HD resolution. The new 27-inch IPS Envy 27 hits the streets February 3rd for around $499.

Next since we’re talking about IPS displays is their new HP Pavilion 20xi-27xi IPS monitors. While not covered in hardened glass like the model above, the xi series features a similar edge-to-edge bezel free design with their blade technology. They’ll come in 4 sizes: 22xi, 23xi, 25xi, and 27xi and all have 1920×1080 Full HD resolution options. You’ll then get support via VGA, DVI-D and HDMI connectivity, while a smaller 20xi offers 1600 X 900 resolution with VGA. The IPS panels ensure 178-degree viewing angles and excellent colors. The new Pavilion xi monitors start at $129 and go to $339 for the 27xi. All available around the end of January.

Then for those on the go HP’s announced their new HP U160 15.6-inch LED Backlit Monitor. This unique display features a built in stand that doubles as a carry case, and is ideal for those on the go needing a portable monitor. Weighing in around 3.4 lbs and measuring only 1.02 inches thin, this should be a great choice for many. It’s expected to be available in January starting at $179 USD.

Next up is the HP x2401 24-inch LED Backlit Monitor (pictured below and also at the head of this article). This is another high end Beats Audio powered monitor, only it is 24-inches and comes with an LED display instead of IPS — so won’t be priced as high as the 27-inch monitor above. The X2401 features an MVA panel, not IPS, but still gives excellent 178 degree viewing angles and extremely inky black colors. This monitor also rocks a full 1920 x 1080p HD resolution 5000:1 contract ratio, and comes in a brushed aluminum finish. Oddly HP states it won’t be available until November, but will be priced at $249.

Then last but certainly not least is the new HP ProDisplay LED backlit line. These are more traditional monitors, and come in 18.5, 20, and 21.5-inch inch models. Respective names are P191 18.5-inch, P201 20-inch, P201m 20-inch, and P221 21.5-inch LED Backlit Monitors. These offer 250 nits brightness, 1000:1 contract, 3M:1 DCR, 5ms response time, and 170/160 viewing angles, so not quite IPS quality. These have the always welcomed 35-degrees of tilt adjustability and 90-degree pivot modes for multiple uses. I’d probably snag two P221′s and put them side by side. The new ProDisplay line will be priced at $129-179 based on size.

Surely we can expect big things from HP here at CES, and we’ll be running around trying to get pictures and videos of all their latest and greatest. Stay tuned for plenty more from CES 2013.

Today, Sharp unveiled the professional-use PN-K321 monitor, which boasts a 4K resolution of 3840×2160 and measures 32 inches diagonally. It’s also powered by Sharp’s ultra-thin IGZO technology to make for a ridiculously high-resolution but thin and sleek display. However, the new display comes with a hefty price tag of $5,500.

The 32-inch display with the 3840×2160 resolution works out to 137ppi, which doesn’t quite match the Retina MacBook Pro‘s 220ppi, but the display should look pretty stunning once it becomes available. It’s expected to released in February 2013 in Japan for a price of 450,000 yen, but no word on release dates for the US and other countries — we should hear more on that front at CES in January.

The display has both HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, and Sharp claims that it’s the industry’s thinnest 4K monitor at just 35mm thick. That’s thanks to the company’s IGZO display technology, which is named after the indium gallium zinc oxide semiconductor on which the technology is based. The company plans to implement the new tech in a wide range of devices in the future, including smartphones and tablets.

IGZO is also a great technology because it uses less power than current LCD displays and it can prolong battery life in mobile devices. 4K displays are still in their infancy, and they most likely won’t hit mainstream for another couple of years, and with the prices the way they are for 4K screens, you can expect to wait a few years before you could really afford one in your living room or on your desk.

Some days it seems like there is never enough monitor real estate for all the applications you have open. Thusly you add a second monitor into the mix, which, while convenient, isn’t as awesome as having one giant monitor spread before your eyes. This is where LG’s EA93, a 29-inch monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio, comes in.

Newly announced over on the LG Korea website, the EA93 is a panoramic monitor with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,080. The monitor features built-in 7w stereo speakers, and has an ultra-slim bezel for those who hate wasted space. It also offers a Super Energy Savings feature, which results in the monitor drawing about 25-percent less electricity than equivalently-sized units.

As for connectivity, the EA93 offers a DVI-D Dual port, two HDMI ports, three USB 3.0 ports, a Display Port, and Audio In/Headphone Out. The monitor has built-in software that offers a four-screen split so that users can divide their computing activities up. You can watch a movie in fullscreen mode in one of the split screens, for example.

Says the announcement, the EA93 offers life-like colors via an IPS display, and is ideal for both entertainment and multimedia, making it a “multi-entertainment” device. The monitor features 100-percent sRGB color expression. Finally, one of the HDMI ports is a mobile high-definition link, allowing users to display share with a mobile device. The monitor is available in Korea for 690,000 won ($633USD), and will be available elsewhere later this year.

Ask any PC gamers with a beefy rig, and they’ll tell you that you want to be using a multi-monitor display while gaming. Naturally, gamers aren’t the only ones using multi-monitor displays, as those setups also come in handy in the workplace. There’s just one problem: if your desktop or laptop only has a single video-out, you’re out of luck when it comes to using a multi-monitor display.

Matrox is looking to solve that problem with its new TripleHead2Go Digital SE multi-monitor adapter. Using this, it will allow you to use a multi-monitor display supporting up to three DVI monitors even if your machine only has a single video out. Matrox says that TripleHead2Go – which is compatible with machines using DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, or a Thunderbolt port – works with a “wide range of GPUs” running on Windows or Mac computers, but didn’t get into specifics as far as what those GPUs actually are.

TripleHead2Go comes complete with Matrox PowerDesk, which boasts a number of features that give you more control over your multi-monitor setup. One of the features Matrox focuses on in its announcement is Bezel Management, which “compensates for the gap in an image resulting from the bezels of adjacent monitors.” Three monitors not enough for you? If you’re using a Windows PC, you can take advantage of Multi-GXM support and connect two TripleHead2Go adapters, allowing you to use up to 6 monitors at a time.

On Windows, TripleHead2Go is compatible with monitors running resolutions up to 1920×1080 at 50Hz, while on Mac, the highest you can go is 1360×768 at 60Hz. TripleHead2Go will be available sometime next month – Matrox didn’t give a specific release date – and will cost $279.00. In the US and Europe, these multi-monitor adapters will be available directly from Matrox, otherwise, you can find them at any certified Matrox seller.

In the past one of the things that made computer displays rather unattractive were thick bezels running all the way around the display. Displays are getting away from those thick bezels and offering designs that push the glass all the way out to the edges of the screen. AOC has unveiled the new display that is borderless and impressively thin called the i2757fh.

This display is a 27-inch IPS unit with a 2 mm thick bezel. The thin bezel gives the screen a borderless appearance, and the IPS technology allows for consistent and uniform color at all viewing angles. The display has a unique look-shaped stand that allows the display to be used as a photo frame without a base. The unique stand can also be used as a height-adjustable display that detaches the button press.

The display supports full HD resolution with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. The display promises to consume little power and has a 5 ms response time. The dynamic contrast ratio for the screen is 50,000,000 to 1. The display has rear-facing ports and supports 16.7 million colors. Connectivity includes dual HDMI ports and a VGA port.

The display also boasts integrated speakers and has an eco-mode. The screen will work with Windows or Mac computers and visually looks a lot like an Apple product. The MSRP for the display is $349. AOC is offering the monitor at retail and online at a special price of $299.99.

The folks at ASUS have brought on a couple new monitors for the IFA 2012 crowd, both of them inspired by sundials and made with matte anti-glare IPS technology for fabulous visuals. The ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H Monitors revealed today work with LED backlighting as well and both have massive 178 degree viewing angles with super slim profiles at 14.5mm and 17.5mm on the MX239H and the MX279H respectively. The smaller model has a 23-inch screen size while the larger has 27-inches to its name.

Both monitors have lovely edge-to-edge bezel-free screens so you can appreciate the entirety of your picture with no distracting borders. With the sundial-inspired design of both monitors, you’ll have the least amount of space taken up with the most dedicated to the display itself. The picture you’ll be working with is backed up by full HD visuals with no less than dual-HDMI inputs on both models.

Both models also have ASUS SonicMaster technology for great audio quality as well. Co-developed with none other than Bang & Olufsen ICEpower audio, you’ll be rolling out with undeniably fabulous audio popping out straight from the monitor itself. You’ll find that both monitors have lovely simple black backs with a Y-shape down toward the imputs they both share, and both units also have a simple set of controls on a silver base sitting under the display.

These units do not yet have release dates or prices at the moment – they along with a whole lot more have been revealed at IFA 2012, and we’re live in effect all week long in Berlin to bring you the action: stay tuned!

Dell has been due for a refresh of its flagship 27-inch UltraSharp monitor, and it looks like an updated model has finally made an appearance on the company’s Japanese website. The U2713HM features the same 2560×1440 resolution as the U2711, but Dell has opted to use the newer AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance IPS) technology. The benefits of AH-IPS include improved color accuracy as well as more efficient light transmission, ultimately leading to a more power efficient display.

In fact, the display is supposedly 37% more efficient than the U2711, drawing 42W under load. All the other benefits of IPS are along for the ride as well, including wide 178 degree viewing angles, and Dell continues to include its various color profiles to get the best out of the monitor. The height adjustable stand allows for small tilts forwards and backwards, and you can swivel the monitor 90 degrees to get as much vertical real estate as possible.

Connections for the monitor include HDMI, DVI-D, DisplayPort, VGA, and four USB 3.0 ports. Contrast ratio is estimated at 1000:1, the response time is 8ms, and brightness is rated at 350cd/m².

Dell say the U2713HM is shipping in Japan starting today, but there’s no word on when it will be making an appearance in other territories. It’s not cheap either, with the monitor commanding a price of ¥49,980 ($639), but at least you’ll be getting one of the only displays in the world with an AH-IPS panel.

UPDATE: Dell has started selling the U2713HM on its Australian website too, although it’s a tad more expensive at AUD $799 (~$843). Head over here to pick one up.

Ready for some more LCD monitors from Acer? The company has taken the wraps off additional entries into the V5 series, bringing the total number of monitors up to six. The three new sizes on offer include 18.5-inches, 20-inches, and 23-inches. Acer say that the V5 series is perfect for those who don’t have a lot of room to play with, and you’ll find all the usual array of ports.

The V195HQL 18.5-inch model comes with a 1366×768 resolution, response time of 5ms, and includes VGA and DVI ports. The DVI port also supports HDCP, so you can feed the monitor with a signal from a set top box or Blu-ray player without content protection kicking in. The V205HL, meanwhile, comes with a 1600×900 resolution, and the V235HL steps it up to 1920×1080.

All the monitors come with a 100 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio, but Acer didn’t provide real world numbers. Brightness is said to be 250 cd/m2, and viewing angles come in at 170 degrees for the horizontal and 160 degrees for the vertical planes. Power consumption varies between the three models, with the monitors consuming between 0.28W and 0.51W when off, and 16.5W and 28.2W when active.

There’s no word on when you’ll be able to pick up these new models, or how much they’ll cost either, but keep an eye out if they sound like a good fit.

The company has further improved its support in the operating system thanks to the increasing popularity of multiple monitor setups. Features that Microsoft will be adding include multi-monitor desktop backgrounds, panoramic pictures spanning multiple monitors, a multi-monitor taskbar, and the ability to launch Metro apps on any display.

In the extensive blog post, Microsoft goes into detail about how personalization was a big focus for them with WIndows 8. They’ll be adding the ability to use different desktop background images across multiple monitors so you’ll always have a bit of variety. Not only that, but you can could also use a single panoramic image across multiple displays, and there’s a new panoramic theme in Windows 8.

Microsoft heard feedback regarding multi-monitor taskbars, and will be providing several different options for power users as a result. The default is to show taskbar buttons on all the monitor taskbars, although users have the option to only show buttons where windows are open, or show buttons on the main taskbar and where windows are open.

Metro apps will be able to be opened and moved to any available display, using the Start menu, keyboard shortcuts, or by dragging and dropping apps. Finally, Microsoft has tweaked the mouse targeting for shared edges between monitors, reducing overshoots and accidental clicks. Corners will appear when you need guidance help, and disappear when you need them to, although they’re small and unobtrusive being only 6 pixels in height.

All of the monitors feature TN panels, are LED backlit, and have low response times of between 2 and 5ms to eliminate blurring during gaming and fast moving video. Acer is introducing six LED monitors in different screen sizes, starting at 19-inches and maxing out at 27-inches.

Resolutions will differ across the line, with the 19-inch model coming it at 1440×900, the 20-inch model slightly higher at 1600×900, and the 21.5, 23, 24, and 27-inch monitors all featuring a 1920×1080 resolution. The response time on the 19 and 20-inch models will be 5ms, with every other monitor having a slightly lower time of 2ms. Refresh rate is 60Hz for models.

Acer is claiming a 100 million to one contrast ratio for all the monitors thanks to the Adaptive Contrast Management, although we’d recommend you take those numbers with a pinch of salt as always. As for connections, you can expect to find VGA, DVI and HDMI ports, with HDCP support too for all that DRM laced video content.

No word on pricing for each monitor, or availability either, but keep an eye out on your favourite retailer if one of these new monitors sounds like it’s a good fit.

MHL has been creeping into more and more devices over the past year or so, first making waves with Samsung’s Galaxy S II. MHL allows an HDMI signal to be sent out over microUSB, assuming you have a powered adapter. Now Samsung is integrating the tech into two new monitors, which will let you plug the phone straight in and display a signal without the need for a separate power source.

While there have been a couple of TVs and monitors with MHL functionality in the past from the likes of Toshiba, Samsung is introducing a pair of LED monitors with two MHL/HDMI ports. Coming in at 23- and 27-inches, the S23B550VS and S27B550VS both feature TN panels with 1080p resolutions, plus VGA ports and internal speakers.

Current MHL adapters need a separate microUSB power source to keep the phone running, while the standard should allow a single cable to do the job. You should be able to ditch the additional microUSB charging cable in the future now that more MHL enabled TVs and monitors are hitting the market. A plethora of phones include MHL functionality right now, including the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, and Galaxy S III. Just about every phone released by HTC and LG over the past year also includes the tech.

HP has expanded its monitor line with the new Compaq L2206tm, a 21.5-inch LCD panel with multi-touch capabilities. The company claims that its triple sensor technology eliminates no-touch zones while staying compatible with Windows 7′s touch input requirements.

The 16:9 monitor has an impressive 1920×1080 resolution for a screen of this size, with a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and viewing angles of 170 degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically – very important for touchscreen use. To that end, the display stand pivots for a full range of 35 degrees, and can rotate the monitor to a portrait mode easily. HP claims a solid 250 nits of brightness.

the touch-screen technology is optical (not capacitive) but comes with an included stylus, and the display has two USB ports mounted on the case. Included connections are VGA, DVI and DisplayPort, with an optional USB graphics adapter. The HP Compaq L2206tm will be available on June 4th for $279.

If you’re anything like me, the rise of 16:9 computer monitors is the bane of your working life – give me the (slightly) older 16:10 standard or nothing. That seems to be HP’s reasoning behind the LA2405x, a 24-inch budget business monitor that bucks the trend of wider displays (with lower resolutions). The TN-LCD panel comes with a size-standard resolution of 1920×1200 pixels.

While it won’t win out against professional monitors or all-in-one machines with in-plane switching displays, the Compaq monitor should be more than enough to display business basics – and a lot of them. Connections include VGA, DVI and DisplayPort – sorry, office movie lovers, no HDMI on the unit itself. HP claims a 1000:1 typical and 3 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio, with viewing angles of 170 horizontal and 180 vertical – nothing to sneeze at.

The included base is impressive, and more like what you’d expect to find on a higher-end display. It tilts for five degrees forward and thirty degrees back, 170 horizontal degrees, and pivots for easy switching to a portrait mode. Two USB ports are included on the side. The HP Compaq LA2405x is available starting today for $269.

The e-IPS panels on the cheaper monitors may not be as good as what you’ll find on professional setups, but they’re still head and shoulders above TN. LG has today announced a new line of IPS monitors, the IPS4 series, aimed at being “affordable” and noting how much better they are than TN panels.

LG quickly lays out how IPS panels deliver superior color fidelity, wide viewing angles, and great picture quality. LG has added some of their own tech into the mix too, with a feature called “Smooth Color Change” designed to eliminate motion blur that you’ll find with fast moving action in sports and video games.

Executive Vice President, J.J. Lee, believes that the new IPS4 line will deliver a “huge step in making IPS monitors ubiquitous in every room.” Whether it’s LG’s product or another manufacturer, that’s definitely something we agree with. If you haven’t had the pleasure of owning an IPS monitor the falling prices mark a good time for you to try one out.

The IPS4 series will be shipping throughout Asia in May, then hit Europe and the United States “in the coming weeks.” No word on pricing, but expect it to fall in line with other cheap IPS monitors that have been popping up as of late.

Remember when we were all using low-resolution 4:3 monitors? Maybe some of you still do, but the majority seem to have switched over to 16:9 and 16:10 screens on their desktops and laptops. New statistics by StatCounter show that 1366×768 has overtaken 1024×768 as the world’s most popular resolution.

StatCounter began collecting the data in March 2009, and the latest March 2012 results show the inevitable has happened. 1024×768 started off with 41.8% share in the resolution market, and has fallen to 18.6% as of last month. Meanwhile, 1366×768 jumped from 0.68% to 19.28% over the same period.

As for other resolutions, 1280×800 comes in third place at 13%, and even that has been slipping slowly over time. Meanwhile, high resolutions like 1920×1080 command very little share overall, despite the rise of cheap 1080p monitors over the past year or two. Currently it sits at 5.09% as of March 2012.

Aodhan Cullen, CEO of StatCounter, says that the data “reflects a continuing trend of users moving to larger screen resolution sizes.” It’s also important data for web developers to be able to design webpages to best suit the different resolutions.

Meanwhile Twitter has decided to purchase Posterous and the Costa Concordia is getting searched by robots. Of course we’re not going to start the day without your fair share of iPad news, with Apple speaking on Proview in the early morning hours.

Next we’ve got some updates on Samsung Galaxy S II’s Android 4.0 ICS update. Over in Germany, they’ve got their first taste of Spotify while extradition teams in the USA are trying to get Dotcom from Megaupload, he speaking on how the US Government used his service before they shut it down and turned him out. And what paragraph is complete without a little more iPad? over in Vietnam they’ve got a brand new iPad unboxing and they’re not afraid to show it.

Pentax is coming on strong with both the K-01 interchangeable lens camera and the Optio WG-2 and Optio WG-2 GPS. Motorola and Apple have been talking legal business lately, the news today being that they appear to have been trying to get all Android OEMs off the patent hook. Then of course do not forget about the most popular Android of all: Samsung’s Galaxy line, complete with a ceramic Galaxy S III well on the way!

Today Acer is bringing five new LED-backlit displays to the party, each of them ultra slim and ready for 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio action. These monitors are able to work with a 5ms response time and range from 20 to 27-inches, each of them with adjustable tilt bases. These new displays are ready to work with slim profiles, Acer’s own eColor Management tool, and an eco-friendly package. Each unit is made of entirely mercury-free material and works with LED technology which Acer reminds us all consumes up to 68 percent less power than a standard LCD display would.

First Acer has the S235HL 23-inch Widescreen LCD, a monitor which holds a 2012 iF product design award, a prestigious honor indeed. This monitor is just over a half an inch thick, has a glossy black bezel, and sits on a silver stand. This device has ice-blue LED buttons in the stand for controlling the display, and all of the I/O ports sit below the base for a clean overall experience and appearance. The LED-backlit LCD mintor comes in at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution fed by one VGA and two HDMI ports, all of this with High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection capable of supporting 1080p HD. This HDCP Acer notes “allows for viewing of digital movies and copy-protected media.” This monitor will be available in April for MSRP $219 USD.

Next is the Acer S200HL with a 20-inch widescreen LCD – this 1600 x 900 pixel resolution beast works with VGA and FVI for all the compatibility you might need, and is available right now for MSRP $139 USD. Next there’s the Acer S230HL Abd and S230HL Abii 23″ Widescreen LCDs, each of them the same size with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and a different selection of inputs depending on the model. The Abd model has two video inputs, one VGA and the other DVI (with HDCP). The Abii has three signal input ports, one VGA, and a couple of HDMI ports with HDCP as well, these for full 1080p HD content. Both monitors are also available now, the Abd for MSRP $169 USD, the Abii MSRP $189 USD.

Finally there’s the Acer S271HL 27-inch Widescreen LCD, a monitor with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and both DVI and HDMI ports with HDCP for 1080p video. This monitor is also VESA compliant so you can mount the whole thing to the wall with ease. This monitor will be available starting in April for MSRP $329 USD.

Exciting stuff if you’re looking to stay in the desktop game – perhaps time to upgrade before your big jump to Windows 8? Let’s do it!

AOC have announced a new monitor in their range, the 23” d2357Ph. Their new monitor is designed to take advantage of passive 3D technology, which means the glasses don’t need to be synced to the monitor, nor do they require an active power source. The d2357Ph is also capable of converting standard 2D material to 3D, if you don’t feel like waiting for Hollywood to convert all their classics.

The monitor also uses W-LED backlighting, helping AOC get the frame down to a svelte 5.8mm, although with the included stand that number grows to 10.6mm. Resolution is pegged at 1920×1080, response time is low 2ms, and viewing angles range from 170 degrees horizontal to 160 degrees on the vertical plane. Typical contrast ratio is 1000:1, although the all too familiar dynamic contrast ratio will boost that to 20,000,000:1. Connections include two HDMI v1.4 ports, and a single VGA input.

If you don’t intend to use the monitor in a typical scenario, then the stand can be removed, allowing you to use the display as a large picture frame. You could also feasibly wall mount the display if you want to use it as a small television – the 1080p resolution and HDMI inputs would serve that purpose quite nicely.

The refresh rate on the d2357Ph maxes out at 60Hz, unlike regular 3D monitors that are capable of 120Hz. That’s due to the use of passive 3D instead of active 3D that’s found on other monitors. Even if you’re not a 3D fan, you may want 120Hz for smoother gaming, so do some research to make sure this is the monitor for you before setting down your cash. If you’re still interested, then the AOC d2357Ph is due to be released in April, with a recommended price of £205.

Multiple monitor setups have long been an essential tool for computer power users and hardcore multitaskers, but it looks like the practice is rising significantly even as sales of traditional desktop PCs decline. The New York Times reports that while only 130 million desktop computers were sold in 2011, 179 million monitors were sold in the same period, with the 49 million unit discrepancy pointing towards a rapid expansion in multiple monitor use. Laptops aren’t left out in the cold, since most include at least one monitor-out port, allowing for an almost instant dual-monitor setup.

The article points to more interest in the well-known multitasking benefits of multiple screens, though apparently a desk full of monitors is becoming something of a status symbol for the office set. Two, three and four-monitor setups are no longer the stuff of day traders, video editors and NASA mission control – NEC says that 30-40% of its corporate customers buy multiple monitors for their office employees. The rising sales are accompanied by larger individual monitors: the median size has increased to 21 inches, up from 18 inches in 2006.

As someone who’s used dual and triple monitor setups at home and work for years, I can attest to their effectiveness personally. It isn’t just the extra space, either – a pair of 20-inch monitors allows windowing and isolation of tasks that’s cumbersome on a larger and usually much more expensive 30-inch display. And with better software handling of multiple displays in later versions of Windows and OS X, not to mention the lower prices among display vendors, it’s never been easier to expand your workspace. Desktops with discrete graphics cards generally make things simple, but laptop users needn’t be left with just one additional screen: companies like Matrox offer USB, DVI and DisplayPort options for expanding to anywhere from two to six additional displays.

But the biggest plus for more mainstream adoption of multi-screen systems might be the users themselves. IT administrators have been using multiple-monitor setups for decades, but now that more and more professional adults are literate in manipulating their computers, they’ve gained the confidence for “advanced” tasks like juggling dozens of programs and tasks across an expanded virtual display. And gamers are jumping on the bandwagon as well, with both ATI and Nvidia offering tailor-made solutions for full-screen gaming on up to six monitors at once.

As we move into the so-called post PC era, there’s at least one thing that tablets and other mobile devices can’t duplicate yet. Nothing beats the productivity boost from a well-implemented multiple monitor array.

The TD2220 is a 22-inch LCD supporting two-finger multitouch, with 360-degree rotation and integrated 2W speakers.

As for the TDi2340 universal display, that’s an altogether more interesting proposition. Described by ViewSonic as an “anchor for cloud computing devices”, the 23-inch monitor supports 10-point multitouch and wireless connections with your smartphone, tablet, or notebook.

Inside there’s an ARM11 processor running a custom ViewSonic UI, that supposedly makes viewing photos and streamed video more straightforward; Netflix and YouTube get name-checked. For more businesslike purposes, you can apparently either set the TDi2340 up as an extended desktop or in dual-display mode.

No word on pricing for either monitor, but they’re both expected to drop sometime in Q2 2012.

Of the three it’s the L2311c that’s the most interesting, using a single USB connection to add a second display to your laptop along with a USB 3.0 hub, webcam and more.

Plug in to your notebook – USB 3.0 is best, though USB 2.0 is supported as well though you’ll lack the highest speeds of the integrated hub – and you instantly get a Full HD display, two USB 2.0, two USB 3.0 and ethernet connections. The webcam is a 720p HD unit, and the display can recharge your notebook too. It will go on sale in February, priced at $319.

As for the HP LV1911 and LV2011, they measure up at 18.5- and 20-inches respectively, use LED backlit panels running at 1366 x 768 and 1600 x 900 respectively, and each pack a single VGA input. Basic stuff, with pricing to match: the HP LV2011 will go on sale in February, priced at $135, with the LV1911 following on in March for $125.

HP also announced the Omni 27 all-in-one PC this morning, along with the HP Pavilion HPE h9 Phoenix performance PC.

AOC has unveiled its latest product called the e1649fwu. This 15.6-inch LCD monitor uses DisplayLink technology to allow the connection to a notebook or a desktop with a single USB port. That single USB port provides both power and graphics connectivity. The display makes it very easy to connect a second screen to run multiple displays on your machine.

The monitor will sell for a reasonable price of $139 and it has a resolution of 1366 x 768 at 60Hz. It is very power efficient with a draw of only eight watts of power and it has an integrated stand. That stand can support the monitor in portrait or landscape mode. It lacks integrated speakers and sports a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The brightness rating for the screen is 200 cd/m2 and the contrast ratio is 500:1. It supports 16 million colors and is energy star compliant. You can pick one up from several online sources and retail stores right now.

Over at MIMOmonitors headquarters they’ve released information on a brand new product by the name of Mimo Magic Touch, otherwise known as the world’s first USB-drive capacitive touchscreen monitor. This oddly enticing piece of equipment has a 10-inch touchscreen, connects simply with one single USB cord for both image and power, and is available in 2 models soon! You can use this device as a tiny television that taps or as a tethered tablet for home entertainment control – whatever you like – including turning your PC into a touch machine.

Pre-orders for this little set of beasts starts tomorrow (Tuesday, the 21st of November), and will be available with shipping guaranteed for pre-Christmas delivery. There’s the Mimo Magic Touch and the Mimo Magic Touch Deluxe, the latter adding a 2 port mini-USB hub as well as separate AC power adapter to recharge separate devices whenever you want. What you’ll almost certainly want to do with this little superstar is to plug it in to your PC and load up something like iTunes, controlling that application on this extension of your normal monitor for easy access.

The Mimo Magic Touch is less than 1-inch thick and weighs in at under a pound, its display a cool 1024 x 600 pixel resolution for all your relatively HD needs. You’ll be able to use this device with Windows 7 fully touch-sensitive or can use it as a display-only monitor with Windows Vista/XP/2000 and Mac OS. The standard unit rings in at $299 while the Touch Deluxe will cost you a total of $329.99. Scoop em up!

Both of the screens are large and use plasma technology. TH-42BT300U and TH-50BT300U are 42-inches and 50-inches respectively and are aimed at use in post-production environments.
These screens can be used for all sorts of things from checking into signals in pre-production to performing precision color correction. The screens are large enough to get two images for display at one time allowing for simultaneous color correction of left and right 3D images.

Anytime you see reference and professional in one sentence things are going to be expensive. The 42-inch plasma screen is $3,720 and the 50-inch version is $5,215. The screens are full HD 3D ready and have slot card inputs for left and right 3D images. They have overscanning and underscanning modes and a lot more.

If you’ve been following along with Shuttle’s ever-increasing library of mini PCs, you know that they all look rather similarly simple and sleek on the outside – today there’s one with a feature on the inside that’ll have your sense of smallness blown out of the water. What the Shuttle XPC H7 5820S has is a new feature by the name of Matrox M-series multi-display graphics, this allowing you to work with up to 16 displays at once. You’ll also find a set of other fantastic specifications inside, but it’s the displays that will have you mesmerized.

Of course a multi-monitor setup is nothing without the computing power inside to back it up. Inside you’ll find an Intel Core i7 processor and up to 16GB of RAM. This computer has the ability to be configured with quad- and hex-core processors, two 1TB hard disks, and comes stock with a Blu-ray burner and Windows 7 right out of the box. All of this fits inside a tiny 7.5-inch tall black box that I’m sure you’ll not mind popping right out there on your home office desk.

Of course why on earth would you use this setup for office work, (complete with your 16 monitors, whichever you choose them to be,) when you could play GAMES with it. You’ve also got internal 6Gbit/s SATA connections to 8-channel HD audio, several high-speed USB 3.0 ports, and Shuttle’s improved air intake system as well as their proprietary “Heatpipe” liquid cooling system. How gigantic will you make it get?

When you do start to consider how big you’ll get here, consider this: you can go for any one of the many different Matrox M-series multi-monitor display boards. You could choose one or two M9128 dual-monitor, M9138 triple-monitor, M9140/M9148 quad-monitor, or M9188 octal boards. If you choose the M-Series PCI Express (PCIe) x16 boards, you’ll get up to 2560 by 1600 resolution on as many as eight monitors at the same time. Use two of these boards at once and you’ll have the full 16 monitors at once.

Pick a setup up today at Shuttle.eu or at any one of several online retailers inside Europe (or outside, if you’re feeling rich.) The base build costs 1446 EURO which rings in at 2013 USD. Grab it now!

Also simply known as the TA950, this Samsung full HD and 3D capable monitor can and will act as your do-it-all monitor and small-room TV, for real. We got the chance to take a look at this lovely piece of equipment at Pepcom this past week during their 2011 Holiday Spectacular – a lovely event with delicious amounts of similar opportunities from all ends of the tech spectrum. What we’ve got here is a 27-inch BLU LED ultra clear panel with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels – let me stop you right there and let you know that this is big, it’s bright, it’s fantastic, and you’re going to get your eyes ripped out of their sockets by the clarity. Let’s just put that out there and see what happens.

This device also works with a DNIe + 3D HyperReal Engine and has a panel frame rate of 120Hz, a brightness of 300cd/m2, and one heck of a lot of viewing angles. It sits on a unique right-side hinge as you can see, providing you with an industrial design unlike basically anything you’ve owned before. This is a unique monitor, suffice to say, and Samsung lets us know that it’s a flagship product of theirs, so you can bet you’ll be getting all the support you need out of it should the need arise. You can use it in 2D or 3D modes, you’ve got jacks galore in the back including connections to your computer monitor, TV box, and anything that’s got an HDMI cable, and you’ll get a few sets of 3D glasses with it, right out of the box, with option to purchase a whole lot more for cheap!

Note also that this device can support internet connectedness through wi-fi and works with the Samsung suite of TV apps so that you’ll be rolling with the winning team through the future. YouTube 3D? I think so! Also listen in for tips on other streaming video groups you’ll be able to work with in your very near future. It may not quite be the behemoth that Samsung’s 55-inch UN55D8000 is (this is the gigantic television you’ll see in basically every Samsung exhibit from here through 2012, but check out our review of that ultra monster to get a fully immersive idea of what your TA950 is capable as far as Samsung Smart TV goes.

This look like the monitor / TV for you? Let us know how your purchase experience goes – it’s available right now wherever fine televisions and monitors are sold! Grab it! Also note that we’ve got a whole heck of a lot more hands-on videos up from the event we’re at here, just hit the [Pepcom Holiday Spectacular 2011 portal] and you’ll be well on your way!

There is a tablet out there right now, ladies and gentlemen, that has many faces, the most recent of which was the Windows 8 developer version of the new Microsoft platform. We’ve seen this tablet back at IFA 2011, then we saw it again when we got the opportunity to check out the Windows 8 version of it just this week at Microsoft BUILD developers conference. Now what we’re getting to see at the Pepcom Holiday Spectacular 2011 in NYC is this slate, once again using Windows 7, working flawlessly with the Samsung Central Station, a wireless display hub made to allow you the ability to mirror any device on its lovely large 27-inch screen

Back at CES 2011, we got a very brief look at this Central Station device as it existed pre-final shipped edition. Now we see that the display, available in both 23 and 27-inch versions, is ready and out on the market, working with essentially any device that’s able to have a full-sized USB dongle plugged into it. What the Samsung Central Station offers you is more than just a mirroring-capable monitor right out of the box, it allows you to do so with as little hassle on your part as physically possible. Just plug the USB bit in your device, activate it once, and have the display instantly pick up your host device’s presence whenever its near.

It’s magic! Have a look at the video here:

Now this monitor is out on the market right this second wherever fine electronics are sold, but the futuristic Windows 8 is not yet implemented on the tablet as you might expect following the massive amount of coverage that OS / device combo has received over the past week specifically. What we’ve learned, on the other hand, is that because of the versatility of both the monitor and Windows 8′s ability to run every bit of software that Windows 7 was able to, you’ll have no problem in the future with your various Windows 8- laden bits of hardware. Go for it instantly.

HP unveiled eight new displays today, including four from its HP ZR-series that use IPS panels, of which one is touted as the industry’s first sub-$200 display to feature IPS technology. The other four displays include one affordable HP Compaq model for business and three digital signage models.

The HP ZR2740w, ZR2440w, ZR2240w, and ZR2040w ZR-Series Performance Displays are sized 27-inch, 24-inch, 21.5-inch, and 20-inch, respectively. They feature LED backlit IPS panels for ultrawide viewing angles and when compared to non-IPS panels, they offer up to 10 times higher contrast ratios when viewed from an angle.

The HP ZR2740w is the company’s first 27-inch display to generate more than 1 billion onscreen colors for smooth color transitions, while the other three in the lineup generate up to 16.7 million onscreen colors. The HP ZR2240w and ZR2440w provide 2-million-to-1 dynamic contrast ratios. Pricing for the new HP ZR-Series displays range from $189 to $729 and are available now, expect for the R2440w model, which will be available in October.

The HP Compaq LE202x offers business users an affordable option with a small footprint and thin profile. This 21.5-inch LED display features full HD 1920×1080 resolution with fast 5ms response time. It’s priced at $179 and will be available starting September 19.

The HP Digital Signage Displays LD4220tm and LD4720tm are 42-inch and 47-inch, respectively. They are full HD 1080p widescreen LCD multi-touch displays geared for 24/7 usage in retail applications. The HP SignagePlayer mp8200 is designed to work with HP’s new rp5800 Retail System and is again targeted at retail applications. Pricing for these are not listed and they are expected for the September-October time frame.

Rumors for an upcoming MacBook Air revamp alongside Mac OS X Lion are so prominent that we’ve pretty much accepted their launch next week as fact. However, other rumors on upcoming Mac Pro, Mac Mini, and even a revamped white MacBook keep flip flopping. The part numbers leaked earlier in the week are now believed to be new Apple LED Cinema Displays.

The part number MC914LL/A-J59 was originally thought to be that of a new white MacBook with a Thunderbolt port. But now Apple has partially confirmed that it is actually a new Apple LED Cinema Display after it posted a new image of the display to its product page and identified it in the URL as “MC914.”

The new display looks identical to the current model except that the promotional images show it displaying a Lion desktop rather than a Snow Leopard one. And the biggest change is that the mini display port on the back is now replaced by the blazing fast 10Gbps Thunderbolt connector port.

Additional images spotted by MacRumors show a MacBook Pro connected to two of these new LED Cinema Displays via Thunderbolt in a daisy chain.

LG has unveiled a new 3D TV and monitor that is sized to fit into just about any room and on your desk. The monitor is called the DM50D and it has many of the same features of the higher end Cinema 3D TVs from LG. The screen promises to be flicker free and have a bright picture. Perhaps most importantly it uses what appear to be passive 3D glasses rather than the expensive active style. The official press release on the display is one of the worst in recent memory and offers virtually no detail on the screen.

It doesn’t offer the screen size or any hard specs on the device other than it can support 1080p full HD resolution. A specific number on brightness isn’t offered, but the device has “double the brightness” of your average 3D screen. TUV and Intertek are UK firms and have certified the screen as flicker free. No flicker means the display is easier on the eyes.

The passive glasses are also offered in a clip-on style for people that wear prescription glasses. The display has an integrated DTV tuner and supports MPEG4, DVBC, DVBT, and other digital TV broadcasts. The DM50D has HDMI input and can play video directly from flash drives. The screen will ship in early July in Europe and will come to other markets around the globe at an undisclosed price.

When I hear the name XFX, I always think of video cards first. The company is still in the video card market, though it has moved from NVIDIA cards to AMD over the years. XFX has a line of other gear for gamers too that has nothing to do with cards for inside your machine. The latest accessory from XFX is a big monitor stand that will hold three screens and is perfect for the gamer wanting to get AMD Eyefinity gaming action loaded up.

The new stand is called the Triple Display Monitor Stand and as the name implies it will hold three screens at one time. The largest screens that the stand can hold are 24-inch offerings and they can each be adjusted manually for height, angle and rotation. The stand uses a single base to make for more desk space and the individual rotation adjustment means that each monitor can be turned to suit your needs.

The stand has two USB ports built-in along with ports for your headphones and external mic. It has integrated cable management and the mounting brackets are adjustable. The monitor holders are standard VESA brackets and should work with just about any screen out there. You can buy the stand now for $389.99 at major online stores like Amazon and Newegg.

I have a story to tell you about this monitor. It involves the end of the world, what that ended up being, and how we forged the wilderness for you to have this monitor, oh you winner. It all happened about a week ago when the tides were coming in, our hair was feeling crunchy, and it was time to wake up from a 30 minute binge sleep (the longest any of us are allowed to keep our eyes closed, of course.) We woke up, and there it was, a big hole in the wall where the monitor should be – avast! Said we, pirates on the loose! Therefor we had to take action. This is not a choose your own adventure but it DOES have one happy ending – continue on, crime stoppers!

Once we’d located the source of the hole, it being a monitor-shaped hole it wasn’t difficult, we went about tracking the footsteps of the thief all the way across the earth. We went to Barcelona, Las Vegas, Orlando, lower Indonesia, Tokyo, and even aunt Mabel’s back yard where no human can escape without doing some yard work. And there it was, right there floating above us in a cloud of rapture – the monitor! We were just waking up at the time, of course, having just survived the second coming of the gods and all that, and it turns out we’d been sleeping for a few weeks instead of just 30 minutes. Imagine that!

So long story short we’ve got a winner and her name is Heather Creely. You can see her entry into this contest in the image above, and you can see the full rules for this contest right over here: Original Post. As with all of our recent contests, if Heather cannot contact us within 24 hours (we’ll give a little leeway since we’re so late announcing this one,) she’ll have to forfeit the prize and we’ll choose again!
