Classic MMORPG EverQuest now free-to-play

This has certainly been an epic week for role playing games, this free-to-play announcement for EverQuest by Sony Online Entertainment entering the ranks with both Diablo III and the refresh of Baldur's Gate. I suppose these gaming companies think it's time to bump up the ol' gaming engines now that summer is approaching - wouldn't want to get a tan this year, would we?! The game EverQuest has seen 13 years of gameplay and a total of 18 expansions to its basic build, and this is the first time its ever had a free model, it now having a total of three - this plus Silver ($5.00/mo) and Gold ($14.99/mo) memberships. Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition revealed for Summer 2012

After a week of teasing with a countdown clock on the Baldur's Gate webpage, we now know what all the fuss is about. Despite the immediate server crash upon counting down to zero, a release was thankfully issued via email revealing that the big announcement is for a Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition that will be arriving this summer for PCs. Baldur’s Gate III: The Black Hound tipped

A countdown meter reading less than 24 hours now sits on the original Baldur's Gate website, the launchpad for the epic 2 and soon to be 3-part digital Role Playing Game series set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. This entry in the series was originally slated to be developed and released in 2002, but was cancelled in 2003 when the 3D Engine developed specifically for the game was used for Black Isle Studios Van Buren, also known as Fallout 3. Fast forward to 2012 and the Forgotten Realms-set RPG is being whispered as having new life in the form of an actual release of The Black Hound, better known as Baldur's Gate III. CCP MMO game Dust 514 will be free-to-play on PS3

The massively multiplayer online first-person shooter (MMOFPS) game Dust 514, which is slated to be available exclusively on PS3, will be a completely free-to-play affair. Game maker CCP had originally planned to charge a nominal price for gamers to download the title from the PlayStation Store, but that plan has been scrapped because, CCP says, it didn't want to confuse gamers. Taiwanese gamer lies dead in LAN cafe for 9 hours before anyone notices

The unconscious body of a 23-year-old sat slumped over at a Taiwanese Internet cafe for several hours before anyone noticed or said anything. The man was playing the online game League of Legends. When he passed out, there were as many as 30 other players surrounding him in the crowded space. It is unclear how long he had been at the cafe before his untimely death. Read The Full Story

Diablo III opening cinematic released

There's nothing quite like a good ol' game of Diablo to get you out of the everyday hum-drum of normal human life, and as Blizzard has proven with their eternally entertaining first two installments of this birds-eye-view hack and slash adventure game, Diablo III has a lot to live up to -- today we get our first glimpse of the first three minutes of the game as it's set to be released in 2012, cinematic one and the start of the continued hellish storyline. What you're about to see is Deckard Cain, also known as the dirty old man whose fortune it's been to both be the keeper of the lore of this game series and the one who's always burning in hell while you fight the forces of evil. World of Warcraft introduces playable panda race – for real, this time

It's been several years now since Blizzard Entertainment played an April Fool's prank on its World of Warcraft base by saying the fifth race in the game would be panda-humanoid in flavor - today we find that in their newest WoW expansion, it's no joke. There's a whole new expansion for World of Warcraft coming out soon by the name of "Mists of Pandaria." This race of fuzzy lovable killers has since the first "JK" announcement made several appearances in both WoW and StarCraft II, and both story characters and a playable Monk class will be coming with this next expansion pack. Star Wars Old Republic global support base opened in Ireland

Of all the places in the world to open a support facility, it had to be Ireland that took on the task of providing support to masses for the new Star Wars MMORPG game The Old Republic as it ramps up for launch on December 20th and 22nd. Of course I and we have no reason to be saying such a thing, in fact such an island base will likely be the greatest place to avoid the craziest of game players that'll more than likely try to swim to the support group in hopes of getting their lightsaber license re-activated after having chopped up too many ewoks. Diablo III Beta Gameplay Video Preview Released

Several gaming publishers have been granted license today to release a new video preview of Diablo III, one of the most widely anticipated and longest-waited-for games in the history of MMORPGs, in its beta form. This Preview features each of the different playable character classes including the classic Barbarian followed by the Witch Doctor, Demon Hunter, Wizard, and Monk. This video mainly shows the masses of different spells and abilities available in this newest installment of Diablo, but also goes into Followers - the NPC allies you'll be able to work with in your journey through the environments overrun with demons in your journey towards the end. Blizzard Entertainment Confirms MMO Codenamed Titan

That didn't take long. It was just a few days ago that the five-year plan for Blizzard Entertainment leaked out of China. If you'll recall, there was the possible plan for a new MMO title, called Titan, on that sheet. And now it looks like Blizzard Entertainment wants to go ahead and confirm that that game does, indeed, exist. Blizzard MMO Not Likely for Xbox 360

Blizzard is a company known for their Massively Multiplayer Online titles, with a major focus on World of Warcraft. Of course, a title like StarCraft can't be ignored, either, even if it doesn't fit into the MMO category. In any event, it doesn't look like Microsoft's Xbox 360 has much of a chance of landing an MMO of Blizzard caliber any time soon, as the company not only knows of the hardships that Microsoft puts forth to developers for access to Xbox LIVE, but they also believe that the Xbox 360 just doesn't have the power to make it happen.
