Diablo III sets record for fastest selling PC game ever

For those of you wondering how and why Battle.NET had lag issues on its opening few days of Diablo III's launch, look no further: 6.3 million gamers played the game on opening week. This number comes from statistics layer down by Rachel Weber for Gamesindustry International who lets it be known that Diablo III sold 3.5 million games (or licenses for downloads,) in the first 24 hours it was put on sale. This number itself set the record for fastest selling PC game in the history of the world, with even more racking up if you count the number of people who purchased a Blizzard Annual Pass to get Diablo III "for free." Star Wars TOR staff cut as player population falls

Though BioWare has not tied the two situations together as thus, the fact that Star Wars : The Old Republic has already lost 400,000 players since launch and that they've got a new set of layoffs in their staff on the books is fairly clearly connected. What we're seeing this week is the CEO of BioWare Ray Muzyka announcing with co-founder Greg Zeschuk that they'd be saying "farewell to some talented, passionate, and exceptionally hard-working people" from the Star Wars staff. Dust 514 gets beta registration

Publisher CCP Games is now letting numerous other players get in on the beta for the free-to-play massively multiplayer title on the PS3, Dust 514. The company announced that it has plans to massively expand its online beta throughout the summer. This will be in addition to the thousands who are already part of the closed beta. Diablo III Real-Money Auction House second launch date set

Its official: Blizzard and Battle.NET have announced that Diablo III's new Real-Money Auction House will be launching on the 29th of May. This comes after a bit of a delay in which the auction house was going to be launched on the 22nd of this month but was pushed back due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to the extremely volatile nature of a real-money set of exchanges here in the next-level auction house for Diablo III in-game items, Blizzard has let the world know that they're sparing no expense making sure the launch goes smoothly. Diablo III Server Status page helps the war weary

Since Blizzard is used to working with online players and has been providing online games for some time now, they've gone ahead and had Battle.NET (their main servers for all powerful games like Diablo III) set up a server status page for all players. What you're going to be able to see here is, if you've got a "server unavailable" message, whether or not the whole server you're used to playing on is actually down or if it's just you who is experiencing the outage. EA launched Star Wars: The Old Republic just before Christmas to positive reviews and a warm reception from the MMO community, positioning it as a competitor to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. Is the galaxy far far away starting to falter already? During a recent earnings report, EA announced that SWTOR’s subscriber base has dropped from 1.7 million to 1.3 million in just two months. Whenever there's an announcement of a massively multiplayer online role playing game coming from a giant like Bethesda, there's a single power-trailer to go with it. What we're seeing today is that trailer, and it's telling us such a small amount of information about the game that it'll set your mind on fire. Square Enix Dragon Quest to go online in August

Mozilla launches BrowserQuest to demonstrate HTML5 gaming
