You can play LEGO Minecraft right this minute

LEGO releases its own Minecraft competitor video game at long last, available on Windows PC through Steam. The game is being released with Steam Early Access first, making certain it makes an impact with the community before it makes a full-powered global launch. This sort of release is similar to what Mojang originally did with Minecraft, allowing the community to have their say before they eventually, gradually, slowly pushed it to platform after platform. This version of the LEGO Worlds game will eventually make its way to living room consoles as well.

Mojang trolls Minecraft player with crude handle

Mojang trolls Minecraft player with crude handle

When you choose a username in certain places — like Minecraft, for example — it’s expected that you abide by certain decency rules. No crude or offensive names and such. Many people don’t listen to such rules, of course, and so there are also word filters into place to weed out many of them. Humans are a creative lot though and so word filters can only do so much; many times offensive and crude names squeak through and enter into the wild, living on until spotted or tattled on. Such was the case with one Minecraft player who spent years playing with a particular crude name before getting hit with a light-hearted jab from Mojang itself.

Minecraft “Predator” mod lets you go ghostly

Minecraft “Predator” mod lets you go ghostly

One Minecraft mod summons thousands of fans with a "Predator-like" set of abilities in 148144 commands. This fellow by the name of Sliced Lime has presented a command block machine for Minecraft which allows the wearer's outfit to change color depending on the block nearest the wearer. The result is a camouflage suit the likes of which we've only otherwise seen in the light-bending Predator beast from the Predator film series. This mod is not (yet) part of the standard game build, but you certainly can try it for yourself if you wish.

Minecraft for PS4 to get ‘The Simpsons’ skin pack tomorrow

Earlier this year, Minecraft players got a The Simpsons skin pack for Minecraft…if they were using an Xbox, that is. We did a mini review of sorts to give a look at the skin pack, and now those on the PlayStation 4 who have been waiting will also be able to get it. The DLC is set to drop this week, and if all goes as anticipated, we’ll be seeing it hit the PlayStation Store on April 28 (that’s tomorrow).

In addition to being sent to none other than Larry Hyrb last week, you'll be seeing this piece of equipment appearing in stores across the United States immediately if not soon.

Google’s Project Tango has a Minecraft demo, too

At a demonstration of the newest in new Project Tango hardware and software by Google at GTC 2015 we've gotten the opportunity to take a peek at an off-brand Minecraft. "This is sort of our homage to Minecraft," said Google ATAP Technical Program Lead Johnny Chung Lee. He proceeded to create a brick house in a 3D space using the newest Project Tango tablet with NVIDIA Tegra K1 inside. The tablet's screen has a pointer, just like Minecraft, and a building exists in a virtual, yet real, space.

Turkey to ban Minecraft for depictions of violence

Turkey to ban Minecraft for depictions of violence

When you think of Minecraft, the firs thing that pops into your mind isn't likely to be violence. That's not what the Turkish Ministry's Children Services General Directorate is suggesting, though, making clear this week that they intend to begin the process of banning the game from the country for its depictions of violence. "Although the game can be seen as encouraging creativity in children by letting them build houses, farmlands and bridges," said the ministry, "mobs [hostile creatures] must be killed in order to protect these structures. In short, the game is based on violence."

Minecraft Simpsons Skins mini-Review

This afternoon we're having a peek at the brand spanking new Simpsons Skin pack for Minecraft. This downloadable pack of skins is available for Xbox One and Xbox 360 as of this week, and includes characters like Bart, Marge, Homer, Maggie, and Lisa. Of course you'll also get oddities like Otto Mann, Nelson Muntz, Martin Prince, Janey Powell, Principal Skinner, and more. While this - like most downloadable skin packs for Minecraft - isn't a massive game-changer in any way, we thought we'd give you a bit of a peek at what you'd be dropping a three dollar bill on before you dropped it this week.

Minecraft update reduces security risks on PCs

Minecraft update reduces security risks on PCs

Minecraft is a very popular video game that lets players build just about anything they can dream up using blocks of all sorts of materials. What players can build in the game is only limited by their imagination and patience placing blocks. One of the drawbacks of Minecraft in the past was a potential to leave PCs with security vulnerabilities.
