Verizon’s 3rd Android device to be Open Development underdog?

Verizon and Google's Android announcement earlier this week came as no great surprise, given the rumors circulating for months before hand about the devices Motorola are believed to have developed for the carrier.  However, a third handset might shake up the segment; according to Unstrung, the first Android device certified through Verizon's Open Development program is expected to land in early 2010, complete with MiFi-style wireless sharing.

Novatel MiFi adds Eye-Fi, Cloud backup and VPN apps

Novatel Wireless have announced the first round of applications which will be offered on its MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, including photo uploads, NAS-style network drive functionality, and VPN support.  The apps - which are produced by developer partners Eye-Fi, Nomadesk and Alcatel-Lucent respectively - will run on the applications processor found in the European MiFi 2352 (which we reviewed back in June) and the MiFi 2372 which will offer AT&T and Rogers Wireless HSPA.

Carrier T-Mobile will be the first in the UK to offer Novatel Wireless' "Intelligent Mobile Hotspot", the MiFi 2352, which SlashGear reviewed back in June.  Available through retailer The Carphone Warehouse in early October, the Novatel Wireless 2352 will be priced from free, assuming you're willing to sign an 18 month contract (at £20 ($33) per month for 3GB data).  We sat down with Rob Hadley, Novatel Wireless' senior VP of sales and marketing earlier this week to talk trademarks, software and the next step for personal hotspots.

Sprint announce 3G/4G WiFi routers by Cradlepoint

Sprint have announced two 4G Mobile Broadband Routers, aimed at personal and business users, for both WiMAX and EVDO Rev.A connectivity.  The Sprint Personal Hotspot PHS300S supports up to four simultaneous WiFi connections, while the Cradlepoint MBR-1000 Broadband Router supports up to 32; each rely on one of the carrier's USB modems for their 3G/4G connection.

MiFi 2372 with AT&T and Rogers-friendly HSPA gets official

Hot on the heels of yesterday's MiFi 2352 HSPA launch in Spain, together with the release of the MiFi SDK, comes the official announcement of the much-anticipated Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372, the North America -optimized HSPA model.  As with the other MiFi devices, the MiFi 2372 allows the sharing of a single GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA connection with up to five WiFi-connected clients; what makes it different is its support for North American 3G networks.

MiFi Developer Program launches: personal hotspot SDK released

Back when we reviewed the MiFi 2352 in June, one of the aspects of the "intelligent personal hotspot" we were left most excited about was the prospect of an open API and the potential for web-connected applications to run on the 3G/WiFi device's secondary app processor.  Now Novatel Wireless have announced the launch of the MiFi developer program, and with it the release of the MiFi Web server Common Gateway Interface (CGI): everything web-savvy developers should need to start coding for the battery-powered router.
