Microsoft Canada starts Developer Movement, shows USA how to do it

Though as a graphic designer by training, I'm not exactly keen on promoting contests to produce results in workers, it does seem like a pretty awesome idea here as Microsoft tries to push developers to make awesome apps for their platforms (including but not limited to Xbox360 and Windows Phone) up in Canada. What you've got here is a "Join the Developer Movement" contest in which Microsoft judges your developed apps as "quality", and depending on how many you've got made until May 20th, you get rewards galore! Xbox 360 dashboard revamp rolls out to beta testers

Microsoft began rolling out its new Xbox 360 dashboard preview to beta testers today. The company started accepting beta testers last month for the dashboard preview, which is expected to bring several new features and an overall face lift. The new look will be reminiscent of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Metro UI and Live Tiles interface. Read The Full Story

Xbox 360 TV expanded experience made official

The folks at Microsoft have announced plans today to expand their Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE functionality to include a slew of new services, partners, and functionality. More than 20 countries are involved in the rolling out of this expansion, partners ranging from HBO to Verizon to the BBC to Televisa, everyone’s in on it! There’s a unified dashboard for Xbox LIVE, Comcast Xfinity integration, 26 new channels of live TV in the USA, further Bing search integration with voice-powered search, “more entertainment options” including Zone marketplace expansion with Xbox LIVE and Kinect, a handful of new apps, sharing, and music discovery. Is it time everyone jumped aboard this Xbox 360 as entertainment station train? Quite possibly yes!

Nyko Zoom lets you play Kinect in smaller spaces

Game peripherals maker Nyko launched a new device today called the Zoom that's meant to be an add-on to Microsoft's Kinect. Anyone who's played a Kinect game, knows that it requires a large space, which not everyone has. There are many gamers out there that are not one console sorts. These folks have all three major consoles and the big accessories that go with them and use them all frequently. With frequent use having to dig out the sensor bar for the Wii and move the Kinect off the TV to play it can get old quickly. Last Christmas my kids really wanted to get the Kinect for the Xbox 360 and that Kinectimals game. I realized right away that the way the room was arranged where we kept the gaming system there wasn’t enough room for us to get back far enough from the TV for the Kinect to work ideally without rearranging furniture. That meant the Kinect wasn’t very accurate and just didn’t work so it has sat unused all these months. Read The Full Story

I have mentioned before that we have all three of the major game consoles in my house. We tend to play the PS3 more than anything else. The big reason for that is that we like driving and racing games around here and on the PS3 I have the Logitech G27 and a racing seat that makes Gran Turismo 5 some of the most realistic racing action to be had anywhere. Forza 4 to get head tracking tech and improved realism

Head tracking has been around for a long time. Honestly, it never really made much sense in some games. I can see the benefit of head tracking if you are playing a flight simulator for instance. I have even tried changing views in flight games before and honestly, it didn’t work that well for me. PSN outage bites as angry gamers defect to Xbox

Gamers are not generally a patient lot, and they are unforgiving when it comes to errors and issues with a game. When an outage like the PSN being down for so long in the wake of the attacks on Sony servers drags on and no online games can be played patients is as thin as the emperor's new clothes. Xbox 360 Top Selling Console 10 out of the last 11 months

Xbox 360 was the number one selling video game console in April, according to NPD Group, and it also ranks as the top selling console for 10 out of the last 11 months. The Xbox 360 has had half of the top ranking games for April of this year, and consumers have spent $310 million on Xbox 360 hardware, software and accessories in April alone. Pretty impressive.
