Microsoft’s Surface Pro, the Windows 8 version of the company’s own-brand tablet, will go on sale February 9 in the US and Canada, it’s been confirmed. Priced from $899, Microsoft confirmed back in November, the Surface Pro will come with 64GB of solid-state storage as standard, along with the digital Surface pen; a 128GB version of the Core i5 tablet will be offered for $999.
We're hearing more bad news for Microsoft's Surface RT tablet today, as one analyst at UBS AG has cut his sales projection for the company's fiscal Q2 in half. Brent Thill now says that Microsoft only managed to sell 1 million tablets during the quarter, which wrapped up in January. This isn't the first doom and gloom story we've heard about Surface RT, and it isn't likely to be the last.

Last week, amid the chaos that was CES, we learned that coder Netham45 from the XDA Developers Forum delivered a jailbreak for Surface RT. Aptly named Jailbreak RT, this batch file is good news for those in the homebrew community, as it allows users to install unsigned apps on the ARM-based device. Without the jailbreak, users can only run authorized apps found in Microsoft's Windows Store, and it appears the company would like to keep it that way.

A lot of companies had a big year – Apple released the highly anticipated iPad mini and iPhone 5, Samsung found a smashing success in the Galaxy S III, Nintendo launched the Wii U, while Google delivered Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and released a number of impressive Nexus devices. Despite all of that, Microsoft arguably had a bigger year than all of them. 2012 was huge with Microsoft, with the release of Windows 8, Microsoft Surface, and Windows Phone 8 all happening in a high-energy span of just a few weeks. It wasn’t so much that these new operating systems and products were released this year either, but rather the fact that Microsoft was taking so many risks with the launch of each and every one.
US consumers have enjoyed access to Microsoft's new Surface tablet at brick and mortar stores since launch, but up until today, UK consumers have been forced to purchase their tablets online. That's no longer the case, as department store John Lewis has starting offering Surface RT tablets on its shelves. This, of course, will give UK consumers the chance to get some hands-on time in with the device before committing to a purchase, which is always a pretty big deal.

Well, this is interesting: it turns out that Microsoft might be planning as many as three new Surface tablets for release next year.
